1 Mi fu rivolta questa parola del Signore:	1 Thus the word of the LORD came to me:
2 "Figlio dell'uomo, volgi la faccia verso il mezzogiorno, parla alla regione australe e predici contro la selva del mezzogiorno.	2 Son of man, look southward, preach toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the southern land.
3 Dirai alla selva del mezzogiorno: Ascolta la parola del Signore: Dice il Signore Dio: Ecco, io accenderò in te un fuoco che divorerà in te ogni albero verde e ogni albero secco: la fiamma ardente non si spegnerà e ogni sembiante sarà bruciato dal mezzogiorno al settentrione.	3 Hear the word of the LORD! you shall say to the southern forest. Thus says the Lord GOD: See! I am kindling a fire in you that shall devour all trees, the green as well as the dry. The blazing flame shall not be quenched, but from south to north every face shall be scorched by it.
4 Ogni vivente vedrà che io, il Signore, l'ho incendiato e non si spegnerà".	4 Everyone shall see that I, the LORD, have kindled it, and it shall not be quenched.
5 Io dissi: "Ah! Signore Dio, essi vanno dicendo di me: Non è forse costui uno che racconta delle favole?".	5 But I said, "Alas! Lord GOD, they say to me, 'Is not this the one who is forever spinning parables?'"
6 Mi fu rivolta questa parola del Signore:	6 Then the word of the LORD came to me:
7 "Figlio dell'uomo, volgi la faccia verso Gerusalemme e parla contro i suoi santuari, predici contro il paese d'Israele.	7 Son of man, look toward Jerusalem, preach against their sanctuary, and prophesy against the land of Israel,
8 Tu riferirai al paese d'Israele: Così dice il Signore Dio: Eccomi contro di te. Sguainerò la spada e ucciderò in te il giusto e il peccatore.	8 saying to the land of Israel: Thus says the LORD: See! I am coming at you; I will draw my sword from its sheath and cut off from you the virtuous and the wicked.
9 Se ucciderò in te il giusto e il peccatore, significa che la spada sguainata sarà contro ogni carne, dal mezzogiorno al settentrione.	9 Thus my sword shall leave its sheath against everyone from south to north,
10 Così ogni vivente saprà che io, il Signore, ho sguainato la spada ed essa non rientrerà nel fodero.	10 and everyone shall know that I, the LORD, have drawn my sword from its sheath, and it shall not be sheathed again.
11 Tu, figlio dell'uomo, piangi: piangi davanti a loro con il cuore infranto e pieno d'amarezza.	11 As for you, son of man, groan! with shattered strength groan bitterly while they look on.
12 Quando ti domanderanno: Perché piangi?, risponderai: Perché è giunta la notizia che il cuore verrà meno, le mani s'indeboliranno, lo spirito sarà costernato, le ginocchia vacilleranno. Ecco è giunta e si compie". Parola del Signore Dio.	12 And when they ask you, "Why are you groaning?", you shall say: Because of a report; when it comes every heart shall fail, every hand shall fall helpless, every spirit shall be daunted, and every knee shall run with water. See, it is coming, it is here! says the Lord GOD.
13 Mi fu rivolta questa parola del Signore:	13 Thus the word of the LORD came to me:
14 "Figlio dell'uomo, profetizza e di' loro: Così dice il Signore Dio: Spada, spada aguzza e affilata,	14 Son of man, prophesy! say: Thus says the LORD: A sword, a sword has been sharpened, a sword, a sword has been burnished:
15 aguzza per scannare, affilata per lampeggiare!	15 To work slaughter has it been sharpened, to flash lightning has it been burnished. Why should I now withdraw it? You have spurned the rod and every judgment!

17 Grida e lamèntati, o figlio dell'uomo, perché essa pesa sul mio popolo, su tutti i prìncipi d'Israele: essi cadranno di spada insieme con il mio popolo. Perciò battiti il fianco,	17 Cry out and wail, son of man, for it is destined for my people; It is for all the princes of Israel, victims of the sword with my people. Therefore, slap your thigh,

21 Volgiti a destra, volgiti a sinistra, ovunque si diriga la tua lama.	21 Cleave to the right! destroy! to the left! wherever your edge is turned.
22 Anch'io batterò le mani e sazierò la mia ira. Io, il Signore, ho parlato".	22 Then I, too, shall brush one hand against the other and wreak my fury. I, the LORD, have spoken.
23 Mi fu rivolta questa parola del Signore:	23 Thus the word of the LORD came to me:
24 "Figlio dell'uomo, traccia due strade per il passaggio della spada del re di Babilonia; proverranno tutte e due dallo stesso paese; tu metti un segnale a capo della strada che conduce nella città.	24 Son of man, make for yourself two roads over which the sword of the king of Babylon can come. Both roads shall lead out from the same land. Then put a signpost at the head of each road,
25 Traccia la strada per cui la spada giunga a Rabbà degli Ammoniti e in Giuda, a Gerusalemme nella città fortificata.	25 so that the sword can come to Rabbah of the Ammonites or to Judah's capital, Jerusalem.

28 Ma questo non è che un vano presagio agli occhi di quelli che hanno fatto loro solenni giuramenti. Egli però ricorda loro l'iniquità per cui saranno catturati".	28 In their eyes this is but a lying oracle; yet they are bound by the oaths they have sworn, and the arrow taken in hand marks their guilt.
29 Perciò dice il Signore: "Poiché voi avete fatto ricordare le vostre iniquità, rendendo manifeste le vostre trasgressioni e palesi i vostri peccati in tutto il vostro modo di agire, poiché ve ne vantate, voi resterete presi al laccio.	29 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Because you have drawn attention to your guilt, with your crimes laid bare and your sinfulness in all your wicked deeds revealed (because attention has been drawn to you), you shall be taken in hand.
30 A te, sconsacrato, empio principe d'Israele, di cui è giunto il giorno con il tempo della tua iniquità finale,	30 And as for you, depraved and wicked prince of Israel, whose day is coming when your life of crime will be ended,
31 così dice il Signore Dio: Deponi il turbante e togliti la corona: tutto sarà cambiato: ciò che è basso sarà elevato e ciò che è alto sarà abbassato.	31 thus says the Lord GOD: Off with the turban and away with the crown! Nothing shall be as it was! Up with the low and down with the high!

34 mentre tu hai false visioni e ti si predicono sorti bugiarde, la spada sarà messa alla gola degli empi perversi, il cui giorno è venuto, al colmo della loro malvagità.	34 because you planned with false visions and lying divinations to lay it on the necks of depraved and wicked men whose day has come when their crimes are at an end.
35 Rimettila nel fodero. Nel luogo stesso in cui tu fosti creato, nella terra stessa in cui sei nato, io ti giudicherò;	35 Return it to its sheath! In the place where you were created, in the land of your origin, I will judge you.
36 rovescerò su di te il mio sdegno, contro di te soffierò nel fuoco della mia ira e ti abbandonerò in mano di uomini violenti, portatori di distruzione.	36 I will pour out my indignation upon you, breathing my fiery wrath upon you, I will hand you over to ravaging men, artisans of destruction.
37 Sarai preda del fuoco, del tuo sangue sarà intrisa la terra, non ti si ricorderà più perché io, il Signore, ho parlato".	37 You shall be fuel for the fire, your blood shall flow throughout the land. You shall not be remembered, for I, the LORD, have spoken.
