Ezechiele 18

BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Mi fu rivolta questa parola del Signore:	1 The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as follows,
2 "Perché andate ripetendo questo proverbio sul paese d'Israele: I padri han mangiato l'uva acerba e i denti dei figli si sono allegati?	2 'Why do you keep repeating this proverb in the land of Israel: The parents have eaten unripe grapes;and the children's teeth are set on edge?
3 Com'è vero ch'io vivo, dice il Signore Dio, voi non ripeterete più questo proverbio in Israele.	3 'As I live -- declares the Lord Yahweh -- you wil have no further cause to repeat this proverb in Israel.
4 Ecco, tutte le vite sono mie: la vita del padre e quella del figlio è mia; chi pecca morirà.	4 Look, al life belongs to me; the father's life and the son's life, both alike belong to me. The one whohas sinned is the one to die.
5 Se uno è giusto e osserva il diritto e la giustizia,	5 'But if a man is upright, his actions law-abiding and upright,
6 se non mangia sulle alture e non alza gli occhi agli idoli della casa d'Israele, se non disonora la moglie del suo prossimo e non si accosta a una donna durante il suo stato di impurità,	6 and he does not eat on the mountains or raise his eyes to the foul idols of the House of Israel, doesnot defile his neighbour's wife or touch a woman during her periods,
7 se non opprime alcuno, restituisce il pegno al debitore, non commette rapina, divide il pane con l'affamato e copre di vesti l'ignudo,	7 oppresses no one, returns the pledge on a debt, does not rob, gives his own food to the hungry, hisclothes to those who lack clothing,
8 se non presta a usura e non esige interesse, desiste dall'iniquità e pronunzia retto giudizio fra un uomo e un altro,	8 does not lend for profit, does not charge interest, abstains from evil, gives honest judgement betweenone person and another,
9 se cammina nei miei decreti e osserva le mie leggi agendo con fedeltà, egli è giusto ed egli vivrà, parola del Signore Dio.	9 keeps my laws and sincerely respects my judgements -- someone like this is truly upright and will live-- declares the Lord Yahweh.
10 Ma se uno ha generato un figlio violento e sanguinario che commette qualcuna di tali azioni,	10 'But if he has a son prone to violence and bloodshed, who commits one of these misdeeds-
11 mentre egli non le commette, e questo figlio mangia sulle alture, disonora la donna del prossimo,	11 even though the father never has -- a son who dares to eat on the mountains, who defiles hisneighbour's wife,
12 opprime il povero e l'indigente, commette rapine, non restituisce il pegno, volge gli occhi agli idoli, compie azioni abominevoli,	12 who oppresses the poor and needy, robs, fails to return pledges, raises his eyes to foul idols,engages in loathsome practices,
13 presta a usura ed esige gli interessi, egli non vivrà; poiché ha commesso queste azioni abominevoli, costui morirà e dovrà a se stesso la propria morte.	13 lends for profit, or charges interest, such a person will by no means live; having committed al theseappal ing crimes he wil die, and his blood be on his own head.
14 Ma, se uno ha generato un figlio che vedendo tutti i peccati commessi dal padre, sebbene li veda, non li commette,	14 'But if he in turn has a son who, in spite of seeing al the sins that his father has committed, does notimitate him,
15 non mangia sulle alture, non volge gli occhi agli idoli di Israele, non disonora la donna del prossimo,	15 does not eat on the mountains or raise his eyes to the foul idols of the House of Israel, does notdefile his neighbour's wife,
16 non opprime alcuno, non trattiene il pegno, non commette rapina, da' il pane all'affamato e copre di vesti l'ignudo,	16 oppresses no one, takes no pledges, does not rob, gives his own food to the hungry, his clothes tothose who lack clothing,
17 desiste dall'iniquità, non presta a usura né a interesse, osserva i miei decreti, cammina secondo le mie leggi, costui non morirà per l'iniquità di suo padre, ma certo vivrà.	17 abstains from evil, does not lend for profit or charge interest, respects my judgements and keeps mylaws, he will not die for his father's sins: he wil most certainly live.
18 Suo padre invece, che ha oppresso e derubato il suo prossimo, che non ha agito bene in mezzo al popolo, morirà per la sua iniquità.	18 But his father, because he was violent, robbed others and never did good among his people, willmost certainly die in his guilt.
19 Voi dite: Perché il figlio non sconta l'iniquità del padre? Perché il figlio ha agito secondo giustizia e rettitudine, ha osservato tutti i miei comandamenti e li ha messi in pratica, perciò egli vivrà.	19 'Now, you say, "Why doesn't the son bear his father's guilt?" If the son has been law-abiding andupright, has kept al my laws and fol owed them, most certainly he wil live.
20 Colui che ha peccato e non altri deve morire; il figlio non sconta l'iniquità del padre, né il padre l'iniquità del figlio. Al giusto sarà accreditata la sua giustizia e al malvagio la sua malvagità.	20 The one who has sinned is the one who must die; a son is not to bear his father's guilt, nor a fatherhis son's guilt. The upright wil be credited with his uprightness, and the wicked with his wickedness.
21 Ma se il malvagio si ritrae da tutti i peccati che ha commessi e osserva tutti i miei decreti e agisce con giustizia e rettitudine, egli vivrà, non morirà.	21 'If the wicked, however, renounces al the sins he has committed, respects my laws and is law-abiding and upright, he wil most certainly live; he will not die.
22 Nessuna delle colpe commesse sarà ricordata, ma vivrà per la giustizia che ha praticata.	22 None of the crimes he committed wil be remembered against him from then on; he wil most certainlylive because of his upright actions.
23 Forse che io ho piacere della morte del malvagio - dice il Signore Dio - o non piuttosto che desista dalla sua condotta e viva?	23 Would I take pleasure in the death of the wicked -- declares the Lord Yahweh -- and not prefer to seehim renounce his wickedness and live?
24 Ma se il giusto si allontana dalla giustizia e commette l'iniquità e agisce secondo tutti gli abomini che l'empio commette, potrà egli vivere? Tutte le opere giuste da lui fatte saranno dimenticate; a causa della prevaricazione in cui è caduto e del peccato che ha commesso, egli morirà.	24 'But if the upright abandons uprightness and does wrong by copying all the loathsome practices ofthe wicked, is he to live? Al his upright actions will be forgotten from then on; for the infidelity of which he isguilty and the sin which he has committed, he wil most certainly die.
25 Voi dite: Non è retto il modo di agire del Signore. Ascolta dunque, popolo d'Israele: Non è retta la mia condotta o piuttosto non è retta la vostra?	25 'Now, you say, "What the Lord does is unjust." Now listen, House of Israel: is what I do unjust? Is itnot what you do that is unjust?
26 Se il giusto si allontana dalla giustizia per commettere l'iniquità e a causa di questa muore, egli muore appunto per l'iniquità che ha commessa.	26 When the upright abandons uprightness and does wrong and dies, he dies because of the wrongwhich he himself has done.
27 E se l'ingiusto desiste dall'ingiustizia che ha commessa e agisce con giustizia e rettitudine, egli fa vivere se stesso.	27 Similarly, when the wicked abandons wickedness to become law-abiding and upright, he saves hisown life.
28 Ha riflettuto, si è allontanato da tutte le colpe commesse: egli certo vivrà e non morirà.	28 Having chosen to renounce al his previous crimes, he wil most certainly live: he wil not die.
29 Eppure gli Israeliti van dicendo: Non è retta la via del Signore. O popolo d'Israele, non sono rette le mie vie o piuttosto non sono rette le vostre?	29 And yet the House of Israel says, "What the Lord does is unjust." Is what I do unjust, House of Israel?Is it not what you do that is unjust?
30 Perciò, o Israeliti, io giudicherò ognuno di voi secondo la sua condotta. Oracolo del Signore Dio. Convertitevi e desistete da tutte le vostre iniquità, e l'iniquità non sarà più causa della vostra rovina.	30 So in future, House of Israel, I shal judge each of you by what that person does -- declares the LordYahweh. Repent, renounce al your crimes, avoid al occasions for guilt.
31 Liberatevi da tutte le iniquità commesse e formatevi un cuore nuovo e uno spirito nuovo. Perché volete morire, o Israeliti?	31 Shake off all the crimes you have committed, and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit!Why die, House of Israel?
32 Io non godo della morte di chi muore. Parola del Signore Dio. Convertitevi e vivrete".	32 I take no pleasure in the death of anyone -- declares the Lord Yahweh -- so repent and live!'
