1 Io sono l'uomo che ha provato la miseria sotto la sferza della sua ira.	1 I am the man familiar with misery under the rod of his fury.
2 Egli mi ha guidato, mi ha fatto camminare nelle tenebre e non nella luce.	2 He has led and guided me into darkness, not light.
3 Solo contro di me egli ha volto e rivolto la sua mano tutto il giorno.	3 Against none but me does he turn his hand, again and again, al day.
4 Egli ha consumato la mia carne e la mia pelle, ha rotto le mie ossa.	4 He has wasted my flesh and skin away, has broken my bones.
5 Ha costruito sopra di me, mi ha circondato di veleno e di affanno.	5 He has besieged me and made hardship a circlet round my head.
6 Mi ha fatto abitare in luoghi tenebrosi come i morti da lungo tempo.	6 He has forced me to dwel where al is dark, like those long-dead in their everlasting home.
7 Mi ha costruito un muro tutt'intorno, perché non potessi più uscire; ha reso pesanti le mie catene.	7 He has walled me in so that I cannot escape; he has weighed me down with chains;
8 Anche se grido e invoco aiuto, egli soffoca la mia preghiera.	8 even when I shout for help, he shuts out my prayer.
9 Ha sbarrato le mie vie con blocchi di pietra, ha ostruito i miei sentieri.	9 He has closed my way with blocks of stone, he has obstructed my paths.
10 Egli era per me un orso in agguato, un leone in luoghi nascosti.	10 For me he is a lurking bear, a lion in hiding.
11 Seminando di spine la mia via, mi ha lacerato, mi ha reso desolato.	11 Heading me off, he has torn me apart, leaving me shattered.
12 Ha teso l'arco, mi ha posto come bersaglio alle sue saette.	12 He has bent his bow and used me as a target for his arrows.
13 Ha conficcato nei miei fianchi le frecce della sua faretra.	13 He has shot deep into me with shafts from his quiver.
14 Son diventato lo scherno di tutti i popoli, la loro canzone d'ogni giorno.	14 I have become a joke to al my own people, their refrain all day long.
15 Mi ha saziato con erbe amare, mi ha dissetato con assenzio.	15 He has given me my fil of bitterness, he has made me drunk with wormwood.
16 Mi ha spezzato con la sabbia i denti, mi ha steso nella polvere.	16 He has broken my teeth with gravel, he has fed me on ashes.
17 Son rimasto lontano dalla pace, ho dimenticato il benessere.	17 I have been deprived of peace, I have forgotten what happiness is
18 E dico: "È sparita la mia gloria, la speranza che mi veniva dal Signore".	18 and thought, 'My lasting hope in Yahweh is lost.'
19 Il ricordo della mia miseria e del mio vagare è come assenzio e veleno.	19 Bring to mind my misery and anguish; it is wormwood and gall!
20 Ben se ne ricorda e si accascia dentro di me la mia anima.	20 My heart dwel s on this continual y and sinks within me.
21 Questo intendo richiamare alla mia mente, e per questo voglio riprendere speranza.	21 This is what I shal keep in mind and so regain some hope:
22 Le misericordie del Signore non sono finite, non è esaurita la sua compassione;	22 Surely Yahweh's mercies are not over, his deeds of faithful love not exhausted;
23 esse son rinnovate ogni mattina, grande è la sua fedeltà.	23 every morning they are renewed; great is his faithfulness!
24 "Mia parte è il Signore - io esclamo - per questo in lui voglio sperare".	24 'Yahweh is al I have,' I say to myself, 'and so I shal put my hope in him.'
25 Buono è il Signore con chi spera in lui, con l'anima che lo cerca.	25 Yahweh is good to those who trust him, to al who search for him.
26 È bene aspettare in silenzio la salvezza del Signore.	26 It is good to wait in silence for Yahweh to save.
27 È bene per l'uomo portare il giogo fin dalla giovinezza.	27 It is good for someone to bear the yoke from a young age,
28 Sieda costui solitario e resti in silenzio, poiché egli glielo ha imposto;	28 to sit in solitude and silence when it weighs heavy,
29 cacci nella polvere la bocca, forse c'è ancora speranza;	29 to lay one's head in the dust -- maybe there is hope-
30 porga a chi lo percuote la sua guancia, si sazi di umiliazioni.	30 to offer one's cheek to the striker, to have one's fil of disgrace!
31 Poiché il Signore non rigetta mai...	31 For the Lord will not reject anyone for ever.
32 Ma, se affligge, avrà anche pietà secondo la sua grande misericordia.	32 If he brings grief, he wil have pity out of the ful ness of his faithful love,
33 Poiché contro il suo desiderio egli umilia e affligge i figli dell'uomo.	33 for it is not for his own pleasure that he torments and grieves the human race.
34 Quando schiacciano sotto i loro piedi tutti i prigionieri del paese,	34 When al the prisoners in a country are crushed underfoot,
35 quando falsano i diritti di un uomo in presenza dell'Altissimo,	35 when human rights are overridden in defiance of the Most High,
36 quando fan torto a un altro in una causa, forse non vede il Signore tutto ciò?	36 when someone is cheated of justice, does not the Lord see it?
37 Chi mai ha parlato e la sua parola si è avverata, senza che il Signore lo avesse comandato?	37 Who has only to speak and it is so done? Who commands, if not the Lord?
38 Dalla bocca dell'Altissimo non procedono forse le sventure e il bene?	38 From where, if not from the mouth of the Most High, do evil and good come?
39 Perché si rammarica un essere vivente, un uomo, per i castighi dei suoi peccati?	39 Why then should anyone complain? Better to be bold against one's sins.
40 "Esaminiamo la nostra condotta e scrutiamola, ritorniamo al Signore.	40 Let us examine our path, let us ponder it and return to Yahweh.
41 Innalziamo i nostri cuori al di sopra delle mani, verso Dio nei cieli.	41 Let us raise our hearts and hands to God in heaven.
42 Abbiamo peccato e siamo stati ribelli; tu non ci hai perdonato.	42 We are the ones who have sinned, who have rebel ed, and you have not forgiven.
43 Ti sei avvolto nell'ira e ci hai perseguitati, hai ucciso senza pietà.	43 You have enveloped us in anger, pursuing us, slaughtering without pity.
44 Ti sei avvolto in una nube, così che la supplica non giungesse fino a te.	44 You have wrapped yourself in a cloud too thick for prayer to pierce.
45 Ci hai ridotti a spazzatura e rifiuto in mezzo ai popoli.	45 You have reduced us to rubbish and refuse among the nations.
46 Han spalancato la bocca contro di noi tutti i nostri nemici.	46 Our enemies open their mouths in chorus against us.
47 Terrore e trabocchetto sono la nostra sorte, desolazione e rovina".	47 Terror and pitfal have been our lot, ravage and ruin.
48 Rivoli di lacrime scorrono dai miei occhi, per la rovina della figlia del mio popolo.	48 My eyes dissolve in torrents of tears at the ruin of my beloved people.
49 Il mio occhio piange senza sosta perché non ha pace	49 My eyes wil weep ceaselessly, without relief,
50 finché non guardi e non veda il Signore dal cielo.	50 until Yahweh looks down and sees from heaven.
51 Il mio occhio mi tormenta per tutte le figlie della mia città.	51 My eyes have grown sore over al the daughters of my city.
52 Mi han dato la caccia come a un passero coloro che mi son nemici senza ragione.	52 Unprovoked, my enemies hunted me down like a bird.
53 Mi han chiuso vivo nella fossa e han gettato pietre su di me.	53 They shut me final y in a pit, they closed me in with a stone.
54 Son salite le acque fin sopra il mio capo; io dissi: "È finita per me".	54 The waters rose over my head; I thought, 'I am lost!'
55 Ho invocato il tuo nome, o Signore, dalla fossa profonda.	55 Yahweh, I called on your name from the deep pit.
56 Tu hai udito la mia voce: "Non chiudere l'orecchio al mio sfogo".	56 You heard my voice, do not close your ear to my prayer, to my cry.
57 Tu eri vicino quando ti invocavo, hai detto: "Non temere!".	57 You are near when I cal to you. You said, 'Do not be afraid!'
58 Tu hai difeso, Signore, la mia causa, hai riscattato la mia vita.	58 Lord, you defended my cause, you have redeemed my life.
59 Hai visto, o Signore, il torto che ho patito, difendi il mio diritto!	59 Yahweh, you have seen the wrong done to me, grant me redress.
60 Hai visto tutte le loro vendette, tutte le loro trame contro di me.	60 You have seen their vindictiveness, al their plots against me.
61 Hai udito, Signore, i loro insulti, tutte le loro trame contro di me,	61 You have heard their insults, Yahweh, al their plots against me,
62 i discorsi dei miei oppositori e le loro ostilità contro di me tutto il giorno.	62 the whispering and murmuring of my enemies against me all day long.
63 Osserva quando siedono e quando si alzano; io sono la loro beffarda canzone.	63 Look, whether they sit or stand, I am their refrain.
64 Rendi loro il contraccambio, o Signore, secondo l'opera delle loro mani.	64 Yahweh, repay them as their deeds deserve.
65 Rendili duri di cuore, la tua maledizione su di loro!	65 Lay hardness of heart as your curse on them.
66 Perseguitali nell'ira e distruggili sotto il cielo, Signore.	66 Angrily pursue them, root them out from under your heavens!
