NEW JERUSALEMDOUAI-RHEIMS
Final y, brothers, pray for us that the Lord's message may spread quickly, and be received with honouras it was among you;1 For the rest, brethren, pray for us, that the word of God may run, and may be glorified, even as among you;
and pray that we may be preserved from bigoted and evil people, for not everyone has faith.2 And that we may be delivered from importunate and evil men; for all men have not faith.
You can rely on the Lord, who wil give you strength and guard you from the evil One,3 But God is faithful, who will strengthen and keep you from evil.
and we, in the Lord, have every confidence in you, that you are doing and wil go on doing al that wetel you.4 And we have confidence concerning you in the Lord, that the things which we command, you both do, and will do.
May the Lord turn your hearts towards the love of God and the perseverance of Christ.5 And the Lord direct your hearts, in the charity of God, and the patience of Christ.
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we urge you, brothers, to keep away from any of the brothers wholives an undisciplined life, not in accordance with the tradition you received from us.6 And we charge you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw yourselves from every brother walking disorderly, and not according to the tradition which they have received of us.
You know how you should take us as your model: we were not undisciplined when we were with you,7 For yourselves know how you ought to imitate us: for we were not disorderly among you;
nor did we ever accept food from anyone without paying for it; no, we worked with unsparing energy,night and day, so as not to be a burden on any of you.8 Neither did we eat any man's bread for nothing, but in labour and in toil we worked night and day, lest we should be chargeable to any of you.
This was not because we had no right to be, but in order to make ourselves a model for you to imitate.9 Not as if we had not power: but that we might give ourselves a pattern unto you, to imitate us.
We urged you when we were with you not to let anyone eat who refused to work.10 For also when we were with you, this we declared to you: that, if any man will not work, neither let him eat.
Now we hear that there are some of you who are living lives without any discipline, doing no workthemselves but interfering with other people's.11 For we have heard there are some among you who walk disorderly, working not at all, but curiously meddling.
In the Lord Jesus Christ, we urge and cal on people of this kind to go on quietly working and earningthe food that they eat.12 Now we charge them that are such, and beseech them by the Lord Jesus Christ, that, working with silence, they would eat their own bread.
My brothers, never slacken in doing what is right.13 But you, brethren, be not weary in well doing.
If anyone refuses to obey what I have written in this letter, take note of him and have nothing to dowith him, so that he wil be ashamed of himself,14 And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and do not keep company with him, that he may be ashamed:
though you are not to treat him as an enemy, but to correct him as a brother.15 Yet do not esteem him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.
May the Lord of peace himself give you peace at al times and in every way. The Lord be with you all.16 Now the Lord of peace himself give you everlasting peace in every place. The Lord be with you all.
This greeting is in my own hand-PAUL. It is the mark of genuineness in every letter; this is my own writing.17 The salutation of Paul with my own hand; which is the sign in every epistle. So I write.
May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
