NEW JERUSALEM	MODERN HEBREW BIBLE
1 The portion falling to the tribe of the sons of Judah, by clans, was near the frontier of Edom, from thedesert of Zin southwards to Kadesh in the south.	1 ויהי הגורל למטה בני יהודה למשפחתם אל גבול אדום מדבר צן נגבה מקצה תימן
2 Their southern frontier began at the tip of the Salt Sea, at the southerly bay;	2 ויהי להם גבול נגב מקצה ים המלח מן הלשן הפנה נגבה
3 it proceeded south of the Ascent of Scorpions, crossed Zin and came up to Kadesh-Barnea from thesouth; past Hezron, it went on to Addar and turned towards Karka;	3 ויצא אל מנגב למעלה עקרבים ועבר צנה ועלה מנגב לקדש ברנע ועבר חצרון ועלה אדרה ונסב הקרקעה
4 the frontier then went on to Azmon, came out at the Torrent of Egypt and reached as far as the sea.This is to be your southern frontier.	4 ועבר עצמונה ויצא נחל מצרים והיה תצאות הגבול ימה זה יהיה לכם גבול נגב
5 The eastern frontier was the Salt Sea as far as the mouth of the Jordan.	5 וגבול קדמה ים המלח עד קצה הירדן וגבול לפאת צפונה מלשון הים מקצה הירדן
6 The northern boundary began at the bay at the mouth of the Jordan. The boundary went up to Beth-Hoglah, passed north of Beth-ha-Arabah and went on to the Stone of Bohan son of Reuben.	6 ועלה הגבול בית חגלה ועבר מצפון לבית הערבה ועלה הגבול אבן בהן בן ראובן
7 The boundary then went on to Debir from the Vale of Achor and turned north towards the stone circleopposite the Ascent of Adummim, which is south of the Torrent; the boundary went on to the Waters of En-Shemesh and came out at En-Rogel.	7 ועלה הגבול דברה מעמק עכור וצפונה פנה אל הגלגל אשר נכח למעלה אדמים אשר מנגב לנחל ועבר הגבול אל מי עין שמש והיו תצאתיו אל עין רגל
8 It then went back up the Val ey of Hinnom, coming from the south to the flank of the Jebusite -- that is,Jerusalem -- and climbed to the crest of the mountain barring the Valley of Hinnom to the west, at the northernend of the Val ey of the Rephaim.	8 ועלה הגבול גי בן הנם אל כתף היבוסי מנגב היא ירושלם ועלה הגבול אל ראש ההר אשר על פני גי הנם ימה אשר בקצה עמק רפאים צפנה
9 From the mountain top, the boundary curved round to the spring of the Waters of Nephtoah, went on tothe towns of Mount Ephron and then turned towards Baalah -- that is, Kiriath-Jearim.	9 ותאר הגבול מראש ההר אל מעין מי נפתוח ויצא אל ערי הר עפרון ותאר הגבול בעלה היא קרית יערים
10 From Baalah, the boundary curved westwards to the highlands of Seir, skirted the northern slope ofMount Jearim -- that is, Chesalon -- went down to Beth-Shemesh and through Timnah,	10 ונסב הגבול מבעלה ימה אל הר שעיר ועבר אל כתף הר יערים מצפונה היא כסלון וירד בית שמש ועבר תמנה
11 came out on the northern flank of Ekron, turned towards Shikkeron and, passing through thehighlands of Baalah, came out at Jabneel, and reached as far as the sea.	11 ויצא הגבול אל כתף עקרון צפונה ותאר הגבול שכרונה ועבר הר הבעלה ויצא יבנאל והיו תצאות הגבול ימה
12 The western boundary was the Great Sea itself. Such was the frontier surrounding the sons of Judah,by clans.	12 וגבול ים הימה הגדול וגבול זה גבול בני יהודה סביב למשפחתם
13 Caleb son of Jephunneh was given a share within that of the sons of Judah, in accordance withYahweh's order to Joshua: Kiriath-Arba, the town of the father of Anak -- that is, Hebron.	13 ולכלב בן יפנה נתן חלק בתוך בני יהודה אל פי יהוה ליהושע את קרית ארבע אבי הענק היא חברון
14 Caleb drove out the three sons of Anak: Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai, descended from Anak.	14 וירש משם כלב את שלושה בני הענק את ששי ואת אחימן ואת תלמי ילידי הענק
15 From there he marched on the inhabitants of Debir; Debir in olden days was cal ed Kiriath-Sepher.	15 ויעל משם אל ישבי דבר ושם דבר לפנים קרית ספר
16 Caleb then said, 'To the man who attacks and takes Kiriath-Sepher, I shal give my daughter Achsahas wife.'	16 ויאמר כלב אשר יכה את קרית ספר ולכדה ונתתי לו את עכסה בתי לאשה
17 The man who captured it was Othniel son of Kenaz, brother of Caleb, who gave him his daughterAchsah as wife.	17 וילכדה עתניאל בן קנז אחי כלב ויתן לו את עכסה בתו לאשה
18 When she arrived, he urged her to ask her father for arable land, but when she alighted from thedonkey and Caleb asked her, 'What is the matter?'	18 ויהי בבואה ותסיתהו לשאול מאת אביה שדה ותצנח מעל החמור ויאמר לה כלב מה לך
19 she said to him, 'Grant me a blessing! As the land you have given me is the Negeb, give me springsof water too!' So Caleb gave her what she wanted, the upper springs and the lower springs.	19 ותאמר תנה לי ברכה כי ארץ הנגב נתתני ונתתה לי גלת מים ויתן לה את גלת עליות ואת גלת תחתיות
20 Such was the heritage of the tribe of the sons of Judah, by clans.	20 זאת נחלת מטה בני יהודה למשפחתם
21 Towns at the extremity of the tribe of the sons of Judah, near the frontier of Edom in the Negeb:Kabzeel, Arad, Jagur,	21 ויהיו הערים מקצה למטה בני יהודה אל גבול אדום בנגבה קבצאל ועדר ויגור
22 Kinah, Dimon, Aroer,	22 וקינה ודימונה ועדעדה
23 Kedesh, Hazor-Ithnan,	23 וקדש וחצור ויתנן
24 Ziph, Telem, Bealoth,	24 זיף וטלם ובעלות
25 Hazor-Hadattah, Kiriath-Hezron -- that is, Hazor-	25 וחצור חדתה וקריות חצרון היא חצור
26 Amam, Shema, Moladah,	26 אמם ושמע ומולדה
27 Hazar-Gaddah, Heshmon, Beth-Pelet,	27 וחצר גדה וחשמון ובית פלט
28 Hazar-Shual, Beersheba and its dependencies,	28 וחצר שועל ובאר שבע ובזיותיה
29 Baalah, Iim, Ezem,	29 בעלה ועיים ועצם
30 Eltolad, Chesil, Hormah,	30 ואלתולד וכסיל וחרמה
31 Ziklag, Madmannah, Sansannah,	31 וצקלג ומדמנה וסנסנה
32 Lebaoth, Shilhim, Ain and Rimmon: in al , twenty-nine towns with their vil ages.	32 ולבאות ושלחים ועין ורמון כל ערים עשרים ותשע וחצריהן
33 In the lowlands: Eshtaol, Zorah, Ashnah,	33 בשפלה אשתאול וצרעה ואשנה
34 Zanoah, En-Gannim, Tappuah, Enam,	34 וזנוח ועין גנים תפוח והעינם
35 Jarmuth, Adul am, Socoh, Azekah,	35 ירמות ועדלם שוכה ועזקה
36 Shaaraim, Aditaim, Ha-Gederah and Gederothaim: fourteen towns with their vil ages.	36 ושערים ועדיתים והגדרה וגדרתים ערים ארבע עשרה וחצריהן
37 Zenan, Hadashah, Migdal-Gad,	37 צנן וחדשה ומגדל גד
38 Dilean, Ha-Mizpeh, Jokteel,	38 ודלען והמצפה ויקתאל
39 Lachish, Bozkath, Eglon,	39 לכיש ובצקת ועגלון
40 Cabbon, Lahmas, Chitlish,	40 וכבון ולחמס וכתליש
41 Gederoth, Beth-Dagon, Naamah and Makkedah: sixteen towns with their vil ages.	41 וגדרות בית דגון ונעמה ומקדה ערים שש עשרה וחצריהן
42 Libna, Ether, Asham,	42 לבנה ועתר ועשן
43 Iphtah, Ashnah, Nezib,	43 ויפתח ואשנה ונציב
44 Keilah, Achzib and Mareshah: nine towns with their vil ages.	44 וקעילה ואכזיב ומראשה ערים תשע וחצריהן
45 Ekron with its dependencies and its vil ages.	45 עקרון ובנתיה וחצריה
46 From Ekron to the sea, everything to the side of Ashdod, with its vil ages.	46 מעקרון וימה כל אשר על יד אשדוד וחצריהן
47 Ashdod with its dependencies and its vil ages; Gaza with its dependencies and its vil ages as far asthe Torrent of Egypt, the Great Sea forming the boundary.	47 אשדוד בנותיה וחצריה עזה בנותיה וחצריה עד נחל מצרים והים הגבול וגבול
48 In the highlands: Shamir, Jattir, Socoh,	48 ובהר שמיר ויתיר ושוכה
49 Dannah, Kiriath-Sepher, now Debir,	49 ודנה וקרית סנה היא דבר
50 Anab, Eshtemoh, Anim,	50 וענב ואשתמה וענים
51 Goshen, Holon and Giloh: eleven towns with their vil ages.	51 וגשן וחלן וגלה ערים אחת עשרה וחצריהן
52 Arab, Dumah, Eshan,	52 ארב ורומה ואשען
53 Janum, Beth-Tappuah, Aphekah,	53 וינים ובית תפוח ואפקה
54 Humtah, Kiriath-Arba, now Hebron, and Zior: nine towns with their vil ages.	54 וחמטה וקרית ארבע היא חברון וציער ערים תשע וחצריהן
55 Maon, Carmel, Ziph, Juttah,	55 מעון כרמל וזיף ויוטה
56 Jezreel, Jokdeam, Zanoah,	56 ויזרעאל ויקדעם וזנוח
57 Ha-Kain, Gibeah and Timnah: ten towns with their vil ages.	57 הקין גבעה ותמנה ערים עשר וחצריהן
58 Halhul, Beth-Zur, Gedor,	58 חלחול בית צור וגדור
59 Maarath, Beth-Anoth and Eltekon: six towns with their vil ages. Tekoa, Ephrathah, now Bethlehem,Peor, Etam, Kulon, Tatam, Sores, Carem, Gallim, Bether and Manach: eleven towns with their vil ages.	59 ומערת ובית ענות ואלתקן ערים שש וחצריהן
60 Kiriath-Baal, that is Kiriath-Jearim, and Rabbah: two towns with their vil ages.	60 קרית בעל היא קרית יערים והרבה ערים שתים וחצריהן
61 In the desert: Beth-Arabah, Middin, Secacah,	61 במדבר בית הערבה מדין וסככה
62 Nibshan, Salt Town and En-Gedi: six towns with their vil ages.	62 והנבשן ועיר המלח ועין גדי ערים שש וחצריהן
63 The Jebusites, however, who lived in Jerusalem, the sons of Judah were unable to dispossess, andthe Jebusites stil live in Jerusalem today, side by side with the sons of Judah.	63 ואת היבוסי יושבי ירושלם לא יוכלו בני יהודה להורישם וישב היבוסי את בני יהודה בירושלם עד היום הזה
