NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA RICCIOTTI
1 He entered Jericho and was going through the town	1 - Gesù, entrato in Gerico, attraversava la città.
2 and suddenly a man whose name was Zacchaeus made his appearance; he was one of the senior taxcol ectors and a wealthy man.	2 Ed ecco che un uomo, per nome Zaccheo, che era un capo dei pubblicani e ricco,
3 He kept trying to see which Jesus was, but he was too short and could not see him for the crowd;	3 cercava di vedere chi fosse Gesù, ma non ci riusciva, perchè era piccolo di statura.
4 so he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to catch a glimpse of Jesus who was to pass that way.	4 Allora corse avanti e salì sopra un sicomoro per vederlo, perchè egli doveva passare di là.
5 When Jesus reached the spot he looked up and spoke to him, 'Zacchaeus, come down. Hurry,because I am to stay at your house today.'	5 Gesù, arrivato in quel luogo, alzò gli occhi, lo vide e gli disse: «Zaccheo, scendi presto, perchè oggi devo fermarmi in casa tua».
6 And he hurried down and welcomed him joyful y.	6 Egli si affrettò a scendere e lo accolse con gran gioia.
7 They al complained when they saw what was happening. 'He has gone to stay at a sinner's house,'they said.	7 E tutti, visto ciò, cominciarono a mormorare, dicendo: «È andato in casa di un peccatore!».
8 But Zacchaeus stood his ground and said to the Lord, 'Look, sir, I am going to give half my property tothe poor, and if I have cheated anybody I wil pay him back four times the amount.'	8 Zaccheo si presentò al Signore e gli disse: «Ecco, o Signore, la metà dei miei beni la dono ai poveri; e se ho frodato qualcuno, gli rendo il quadruplo».
9 And Jesus said to him, 'Today salvation has come to this house, because this man too is a son ofAbraham;	9 Gesù gli replicò: «Per questa casa oggi è venuta la salvezza, perchè egli pure è figliuolo di Abramo.
10 for the Son of man has come to seek out and save what was lost.'	10 Il Figliuol dell'uomo infatti è venuto a cercare ed a salvare ciò che era perduto».
11 While the people were listening to this he went on to tel a parable, because he was near Jerusalemand they thought that the kingdom of God was going to show itself then and there.	11 Ascoltando quei tali discorsi, Gesù aggiunse una parabola, perchè era vicino a Gerusalemme ed essi credevano che la manifestazione del regno di Dio fosse imminente.
12 Accordingly he said, 'A man of noble birth went to a distant country to be appointed king and thenreturn.	12 Disse dunque: «Un nobile uomo andò in un paese lontano per ricevere [l'investitura] del regno e poi ritornare.
13 He summoned ten of his servants and gave them ten pounds, tel ing them, "Trade with these, until Iget back."	13 Chiamati a sè i suoi dieci servi, diede loro dieci mine e disse: - Trafficatele fino al mio ritorno. -
14 But his compatriots detested him and sent a delegation to fol ow him with this message, "We do notwant this man to be our king."	14 I suoi concittadini però l'odiavano e gli mandarono dietro un'ambasciata, dicendo: - Non vogliamo che quest'uomo regni su noi. -
15 'Now it happened that on his return, having received his appointment as king, he sent for thoseservants to whom he had given the money, to find out what profit each had made by trading.	15 Quando fu di ritorno, dopo essere stato investito del regno, fece chiamare i servi, ai quali aveva dato il denaro, per sapere quanto ciascuno avesse guadagnato.
16 The first came in, "Sir," he said, "your one pound has brought in ten."	16 Venne il primo a dirgli: - Signore, la tua mina ne ha fruttato altre dieci. -
17 He replied, "Wel done, my good servant! Since you have proved yourself trustworthy in a very smalthing, you shal have the government of ten cities."	17 Ed egli disse a lui: - Bravo e buon servitore, perchè sei stato fedele nel poco, avrai potere su dieci città. -
18 Then came the second, "Sir," he said, "your one pound has made five."	18 Poi venne il secondo e disse: - Signore, la tua mina ne ha fruttato altre cinque. -
19 To this one also he said, "And you shal be in charge of five cities."	19 E rispose anche a questo: - Tu pure avrai potere su cinque città. -
20 Next came the other, "Sir," he said, "here is your pound. I put it away safely wrapped up in a cloth	20 Poi venne un terzo e disse: - Signore, ecco la tua mina, che ho conservata rinvolta in un fazzoletto,
21 because I was afraid of you; for you are an exacting man: you gather in what you have not laid outand reap what you have not sown."	21 perchè ho avuto paura di te, che sei un uomo severo e prendi quel che non hai dato e mieti quel che non hai seminato. -
22 He said to him, "You wicked servant! Out of your own mouth I condemn you. So you knew that I wasan exacting man, gathering in what I have not laid out and reaping what I have not sown?	22 E il padrone a lui: - Io ti giudico dalle tue stesse parole, o servo cattivo! Tu sapevi che sono un uomo severo, che prendo quel che non ho dato e mieto quel che non ho seminato;
23 Then why did you not put my money in the bank? On my return I could have drawn it out withinterest."	23 perchè dunque non hai depositato il mio denaro alla banca? Io, al mio ritorno, l'avrei ritirato coi frutti. -
24 And he said to those standing by, "Take the pound from him and give it to the man who has tenpounds."	24 E disse agli astanti: - Toglietegli la mina e datela a chi ne ha dieci. -
25 And they said to him, "But, sir, he has ten pounds . . ."	25 E avendogli essi fatto osservare: - Signore, ne ha già dieci! - Egli replicò:
26 "I tel you, to everyone who has wil be given more; but anyone who has not wil be deprived even ofwhat he has.	26 - Io vi dico che a chi ha, sarà dato, e sarà nell'abbondanza e a chi non ha, sarà tolto anche quello che ha.
27 "As for my enemies who did not want me for their king, bring them here and execute them in mypresence." '	27 In quanto poi a' miei nemici, che non mi volevano per loro re, conduceteli qua e uccideteli alla mia presenza -».
28 When he had said this he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.	28 Dopo questo discorso, Gesù camminava innanzi agli altri, diretto a Gerusalemme.
29 Now it happened that when he was near Bethphage and Bethany, close by the Mount of Olives as itis cal ed, he sent two of the disciples, saying,	29 Quando fu vicino a Betfage e a Betania, presso il monte, detto degli Ulivi, mandò due de' suoi discepoli,
30 'Go to the vil age opposite, and as you enter it you wil find a tethered colt that no one has ever yetridden. Untie it and bring it here.	30 dicendo loro: «Andate nel villaggio dirimpetto, entrandovi, troverete legato un asinello, sul quale nessuno è mai montato; scioglietelo e menatemelo qua.
31 If anyone asks you, "Why are you untying it?" you are to say this, "The Master needs it." '	31 Che se qualcuno vi domandasse perchè lo sciogliete, rispondete: - Perchè il Signore ne ha bisogno -».
32 The messengers went off and found everything just as he had told them.	32 Gl'inviati andarono e trovarono l'asinello come egli aveva loro predetto.
33 As they were untying the colt, its owners said, 'Why are you untying it?'	33 E mentre scioglievano l'asinello, i padroni chiesero loro: «Perchè sciogliete l'asinello?».
34 and they answered, 'The Master needs it.'	34 Essi risposero: «Perchè il Signore ne ha bisogno».
35 So they took the colt to Jesus and, throwing their cloaks on its back, they lifted Jesus on to it.	35 E lo menarono a Gesù; e gettati i loro mantelli sull'asinello, vi fecero montare Gesù.
36 As he moved off, they spread their cloaks in the road,	36 Mentre egli andava innanzi così, la gente stendeva i mantelli sulla via.
37 and now, as he was approaching the downward slope of the Mount of Olives, the whole group ofdisciples joyful y began to praise God at the top of their voices for all the miracles they had seen.	37 Quando poi fu vicino alla discesa del monte degli Ulivi, tutta la folla dei discepoli cominciò a lodare con gioia il Signore a voce alta per tutti i prodigi che avevano visti,
38 They cried out: Blessed is he who is coming as King in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven andglory in the highest heavens!	38 e dicevano: «Benedetto il re, che viene nel nome del Signore! Pace in cielo e gloria nei luoghi altissimi».
39 Some Pharisees in the crowd said to him, 'Master, reprove your disciples,'	39 Alcuni Farisei di tra la folla gli dissero: «Maestro, sgrida i tuoi discepoli».
40 but he answered, 'I tell you, if these keep silence, the stones wil cry out.'	40 Ma egli rispose loro: «Io vi dico, se questi tacessero, griderebbero le pietre».
41 As he drew near and came in sight of the city he shed tears over it	41 Quando fu vicino alla città, la guardò e pianse su di lei, dicendo:
42 and said, 'If you too had only recognised on this day the way to peace! But in fact it is hidden fromyour eyes!	42 «O se conoscessi anche tu e proprio in questo giorno, quel che giova alla tua pace! Invece ora sono cose rimaste nascoste a' tuoi occhi.
43 Yes, a time is coming when your enemies wil raise fortifications all round you, when they wil encircleyou and hem you in on every side;	43 Poichè verranno per te giorni, nei quali i tuoi nemici ti faranno attorno delle trincee, ti circonderanno e ti stringeranno d'assedio da ogni parte,
44 they wil dash you and the children inside your wal s to the ground; they wil leave not one stonestanding on another within you, because you did not recognise the moment of your visitation.'	44 e distruggeranno te e i tuoi figliuoli che sono in te, e non lasceranno in te pietra su pietra, perchè non hai riconosciuto il momento nel quale sei stata visitata».
45 Then he went into the Temple and began driving out those who were busy trading, saying to them,	45 Entrato nel tempio, cominciò a scacciare coloro che in esso vendevano e comperavano,
46 'According to scripture, my house shal be a house of prayer but you have turned it into a bandits'den.'	46 dicendo loro: «Sta scritto: La mia casa è casa di orazione ; ma voi ne avete fatto una spelonca di ladri».
47 He taught in the Temple every day. The chief priests and the scribes, in company with the leadingcitizens, tried to do away with him,	47 Ogni giorno insegnava nel tempio. Ma i principi dei Sacerdoti e gli Scribi e i primi tra il popolo cercavano di farlo morire;
48 but they could not find a way to carry this out because the whole people hung on his words.	48 ma non sapevano come fare, perchè tutto il popolo ascoltandolo, pendeva dalle sue labbra.
