Luke 19

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 He entered Jericho and was going through the town	1 Habiendo entrado en Jericó, atravesaba la ciudad.
2 and suddenly a man whose name was Zacchaeus made his appearance; he was one of the senior taxcol ectors and a wealthy man.	2 Había un hombre llamado Zaqueo, que era jefe de publicanos, y rico.
3 He kept trying to see which Jesus was, but he was too short and could not see him for the crowd;	3 Trataba de ver quién era Jesús, pero no podía a causa de la gente, porque era de pequeña estatura.
4 so he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to catch a glimpse of Jesus who was to pass that way.	4 Se adelantó corriendo y se subió a un sicómoro para verle, pues iba a pasar por allí.
5 When Jesus reached the spot he looked up and spoke to him, 'Zacchaeus, come down. Hurry,because I am to stay at your house today.'	5 Y cuando Jesús llegó a aquel sitio, alzando la vista, le dijo: «Zaqueo, baja pronto; porque conviene que hoy me quede yo en tu casa».
6 And he hurried down and welcomed him joyful y.	6 Se apresuró a bajar y le recibió con alegría.
7 They al complained when they saw what was happening. 'He has gone to stay at a sinner's house,'they said.	7 Al verlo, todos murmuraban diciendo: «Ha ido a hospedarse a casa de un hombre pecador».
8 But Zacchaeus stood his ground and said to the Lord, 'Look, sir, I am going to give half my property tothe poor, and if I have cheated anybody I wil pay him back four times the amount.'	8 Zaqueo, puesto en pie, dijo al Señor: «Daré, Señor, la mitad de mis bienes a los pobres; y si en algo defraudé a alguien, le devolveré el cuádruplo».
9 And Jesus said to him, 'Today salvation has come to this house, because this man too is a son ofAbraham;	9 Jesús le dijo: «Hoy ha llegado la salvación a esta casa, porque también éste es hijo de Abraham,
10 for the Son of man has come to seek out and save what was lost.'	10 pues el Hijo del hombre ha venido a buscar y salvar lo que estaba perdido».
11 While the people were listening to this he went on to tel a parable, because he was near Jerusalemand they thought that the kingdom of God was going to show itself then and there.	11 Estando la gente escuchando estas cosas, añadió una parábola, pues estaba él cerca de Jerusalén, y creían ellos que el Reino de Dios aparecería de un momento a otro.
12 Accordingly he said, 'A man of noble birth went to a distant country to be appointed king and thenreturn.	12 Dijo pues: «Un hombre noble marchó a un país lejano, para recibir la investidura real y volverse.
13 He summoned ten of his servants and gave them ten pounds, tel ing them, "Trade with these, until Iget back."	13 Habiendo llamado a diez siervos suyos, les dio diez minas y les dijo: “Negociad hasta que vuelva.”
14 But his compatriots detested him and sent a delegation to fol ow him with this message, "We do notwant this man to be our king."	14 Pero sus ciudadanos le odiaban y enviaron detrás de él una embajada que dijese: “No queremos que ése reine sobre nosotros.”
15 'Now it happened that on his return, having received his appointment as king, he sent for thoseservants to whom he had given the money, to find out what profit each had made by trading.	15 «Y sucedió que, cuando regresó, después de recibir la investidura real, mandó llamar a aquellos siervos suyos, a los que había dado el dinero, para saber lo que había ganado cada uno.
16 The first came in, "Sir," he said, "your one pound has brought in ten."	16 Se presentó el primero y dijo: “Señor, tu mina ha producido diez minas.”
17 He replied, "Wel done, my good servant! Since you have proved yourself trustworthy in a very smalthing, you shal have the government of ten cities."	17 Le respondió: “¡Muy bien, siervo bueno!; ya que has sido fiel en lo mínimo, toma el gobierno de diez ciudades.”
18 Then came the second, "Sir," he said, "your one pound has made five."	18 Vino el segundo y dijo: “Tu mina, Señor, ha producido cinco minas.”
19 To this one also he said, "And you shal be in charge of five cities."	19 Dijo a éste: “Ponte tú también al mando de cinco ciudades.”
20 Next came the other, "Sir," he said, "here is your pound. I put it away safely wrapped up in a cloth	20 «Vino el otro y dijo: “Señor, aquí tienes tu mina, que he tenido guardada en un lienzo;
21 because I was afraid of you; for you are an exacting man: you gather in what you have not laid outand reap what you have not sown."	21 pues tenía miedo de tí, que eres un hombre severo; que tomas lo que no pusiste, y cosechas lo que no sembraste.”
22 He said to him, "You wicked servant! Out of your own mouth I condemn you. So you knew that I wasan exacting man, gathering in what I have not laid out and reaping what I have not sown?	22 Dícele: “Por tu propia boca te juzgo, siervo malo; sabías que yo soy un hombre severo, que tomo lo que no puse y cosecho lo que no sembré;
23 Then why did you not put my money in the bank? On my return I could have drawn it out withinterest."	23 pues ¿por qué no colocaste mi dinero en el banco? Y así, al volver yo, lo habría cobrado con los intereses.”
24 And he said to those standing by, "Take the pound from him and give it to the man who has tenpounds."	24 Y dijo a los presentes: “Quitadle la mina y dádsela al que tiene las diez minas.”
25 And they said to him, "But, sir, he has ten pounds . . ."	25 Dijéronle: “Señor, tiene ya diez minas.”
26 "I tel you, to everyone who has wil be given more; but anyone who has not wil be deprived even ofwhat he has.	26 - “Os digo que a todo el que tiene, se le dará; pero al que no tiene, aun lo que tiene se le quitará.”
27 "As for my enemies who did not want me for their king, bring them here and execute them in mypresence." '	27 «“Pero a aquellos enemigos míos, los que no quisieron que yo reinara sobre ellos, traedlos aquí y matadlos delante de mí.”»
28 When he had said this he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.	28 Y habiendo dicho esto, marchaba por delante subiendo a Jerusalén.
29 Now it happened that when he was near Bethphage and Bethany, close by the Mount of Olives as itis cal ed, he sent two of the disciples, saying,	29 Y sucedió que, al aproximarse a Betfagé y Betania, al pie del monte llamado de los Olivos, envió a dos de sus discípulos,
30 'Go to the vil age opposite, and as you enter it you wil find a tethered colt that no one has ever yetridden. Untie it and bring it here.	30 diciendo: «Id al pueblo que está enfrente y, entrando en él, encontraréis un pollino atado, sobre el que no ha montado todavía ningún hombre; desatadlo y traedlo.
31 If anyone asks you, "Why are you untying it?" you are to say this, "The Master needs it." '	31 Y si alguien os pregunta: “¿Por qué lo desatáis?”, diréis esto: “Porque el Señor lo necesita.”»
32 The messengers went off and found everything just as he had told them.	32 Fueron, pues, los enviados y lo encontraron como les había dicho.
33 As they were untying the colt, its owners said, 'Why are you untying it?'	33 Cuando desataban el pollino, les dijeron los dueños: «¿Por qué desatáis el pollino?»
34 and they answered, 'The Master needs it.'	34 Ellos les contestaron: «Porque el Señor lo necesita».
35 So they took the colt to Jesus and, throwing their cloaks on its back, they lifted Jesus on to it.	35 Y lo trajeron donde Jesús; y echando sus mantos sobre el pollino, hicieron montar a Jesús.
36 As he moved off, they spread their cloaks in the road,	36 Mientras él avanzaba, extendían sus mantos por el camino.
37 and now, as he was approaching the downward slope of the Mount of Olives, the whole group ofdisciples joyful y began to praise God at the top of their voices for all the miracles they had seen.	37 Cerca ya de la bajada del monte de los Olivos, toda la multitud de los discípulos, llenos de alegría, se pusieron a alabar a Dios a grandes voces, por todos los milagros que habían visto.
38 They cried out: Blessed is he who is coming as King in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven andglory in the highest heavens!	38 Decían: «Bendito el Rey que viene en nombre del Señor! Paz en el cielo y gloria en las alturas».
39 Some Pharisees in the crowd said to him, 'Master, reprove your disciples,'	39 Algunos de los fariseos, que estaban entre la gente, le dijeron: «Maestro, reprende a tus discípulos».
40 but he answered, 'I tell you, if these keep silence, the stones wil cry out.'	40 Respondió: «Os digo que si éstos callan gritarán las piedras».
41 As he drew near and came in sight of the city he shed tears over it	41 Al acercarse y ver la ciudad, lloró por ella,
42 and said, 'If you too had only recognised on this day the way to peace! But in fact it is hidden fromyour eyes!	42 diciendo: «¡Si también tú conocieras en este día el mensaje de paz! Pero ahora ha quedado oculto a tus ojos.
43 Yes, a time is coming when your enemies wil raise fortifications all round you, when they wil encircleyou and hem you in on every side;	43 Porque vendrán días sobre ti, en que tus enemigos te rodearán de empalizadas, te cercarán y te apretarán por todas partes,
44 they wil dash you and the children inside your wal s to the ground; they wil leave not one stonestanding on another within you, because you did not recognise the moment of your visitation.'	44 y te estrellarán contra el suelo a ti y a tus hijos que estén dentro de ti, y no dejarán en ti piedra sobre piedra, porque no has conocido el tiempo de tu visita».
45 Then he went into the Temple and began driving out those who were busy trading, saying to them,	45 Entrando en el Templo, comenzó a echar fuera a los que vendían,
46 'According to scripture, my house shal be a house of prayer but you have turned it into a bandits'den.'	46 diciéndoles: «Está escrito: Mi Casa será Casa de oración. ¡Pero vosotros la habéis hecho una cueva de bandidos!»
47 He taught in the Temple every day. The chief priests and the scribes, in company with the leadingcitizens, tried to do away with him,	47 Enseñaba todos los días en el Templo. Por su parte, los sumos sacerdotes, los escribas y también los notables del pueblo buscaban matarle,
48 but they could not find a way to carry this out because the whole people hung on his words.	48 pero no encontraban qué podrían hacer, porque todo el pueblo le oía pendiente de sus labios.
