Luke 19

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA CEI 2008
1 He entered Jericho and was going through the town	1 Entrò nella città di Gerico e la stava attraversando,
2 and suddenly a man whose name was Zacchaeus made his appearance; he was one of the senior taxcol ectors and a wealthy man.	2 quand’ecco un uomo, di nome Zaccheo, capo dei pubblicani e ricco,
3 He kept trying to see which Jesus was, but he was too short and could not see him for the crowd;	3 cercava di vedere chi era Gesù, ma non gli riusciva a causa della folla, perché era piccolo di statura.
4 so he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to catch a glimpse of Jesus who was to pass that way.	4 Allora corse avanti e, per riuscire a vederlo, salì su un sicomòro, perché doveva passare di là.
5 When Jesus reached the spot he looked up and spoke to him, 'Zacchaeus, come down. Hurry,because I am to stay at your house today.'	5 Quando giunse sul luogo, Gesù alzò lo sguardo e gli disse: «Zaccheo, scendi subito, perché oggi devo fermarmi a casa tua».
6 And he hurried down and welcomed him joyful y.	6 Scese in fretta e lo accolse pieno di gioia.
7 They al complained when they saw what was happening. 'He has gone to stay at a sinner's house,'they said.	7 Vedendo ciò, tutti mormoravano: «È entrato in casa di un peccatore!».
8 But Zacchaeus stood his ground and said to the Lord, 'Look, sir, I am going to give half my property tothe poor, and if I have cheated anybody I wil pay him back four times the amount.'	8 Ma Zaccheo, alzatosi, disse al Signore: «Ecco, Signore, io do la metà di ciò che possiedo ai poveri e, se ho rubato a qualcuno, restituisco quattro volte tanto».
9 And Jesus said to him, 'Today salvation has come to this house, because this man too is a son ofAbraham;	9 Gesù gli rispose: «Oggi per questa casa è venuta la salvezza, perché anch’egli è figlio di Abramo.
10 for the Son of man has come to seek out and save what was lost.'	10 Il Figlio dell’uomo infatti è venuto a cercare e a salvare ciò che era perduto».
11 While the people were listening to this he went on to tel a parable, because he was near Jerusalemand they thought that the kingdom of God was going to show itself then and there.	11 Mentre essi stavano ad ascoltare queste cose, disse ancora una parabola, perché era vicino a Gerusalemme ed essi pensavano che il regno di Dio dovesse manifestarsi da un momento all’altro.
12 Accordingly he said, 'A man of noble birth went to a distant country to be appointed king and thenreturn.	12 Disse dunque: «Un uomo di nobile famiglia partì per un paese lontano, per ricevere il titolo di re e poi ritornare.
13 He summoned ten of his servants and gave them ten pounds, tel ing them, "Trade with these, until Iget back."	13 Chiamati dieci dei suoi servi, consegnò loro dieci monete d’oro, dicendo: “Fatele fruttare fino al mio ritorno”.
14 But his compatriots detested him and sent a delegation to fol ow him with this message, "We do notwant this man to be our king."	14 Ma i suoi cittadini lo odiavano e mandarono dietro di lui una delegazione a dire: “Non vogliamo che costui venga a regnare su di noi”.
15 'Now it happened that on his return, having received his appointment as king, he sent for thoseservants to whom he had given the money, to find out what profit each had made by trading.	15 Dopo aver ricevuto il titolo di re, egli ritornò e fece chiamare quei servi a cui aveva consegnato il denaro, per sapere quanto ciascuno avesse guadagnato.
16 The first came in, "Sir," he said, "your one pound has brought in ten."	16 Si presentò il primo e disse: “Signore, la tua moneta d’oro ne ha fruttate dieci”.
17 He replied, "Wel done, my good servant! Since you have proved yourself trustworthy in a very smalthing, you shal have the government of ten cities."	17 Gli disse: “Bene, servo buono! Poiché ti sei mostrato fedele nel poco, ricevi il potere sopra dieci città”.
18 Then came the second, "Sir," he said, "your one pound has made five."	18 Poi si presentò il secondo e disse: “Signore, la tua moneta d’oro ne ha fruttate cinque”.
19 To this one also he said, "And you shal be in charge of five cities."	19 Anche a questo disse: “Tu pure sarai a capo di cinque città”.
20 Next came the other, "Sir," he said, "here is your pound. I put it away safely wrapped up in a cloth	20 Venne poi anche un altro e disse: “Signore, ecco la tua moneta d’oro, che ho tenuto nascosta in un fazzoletto;
21 because I was afraid of you; for you are an exacting man: you gather in what you have not laid outand reap what you have not sown."	21 avevo paura di te, che sei un uomo severo: prendi quello che non hai messo in deposito e mieti quello che non hai seminato”.
22 He said to him, "You wicked servant! Out of your own mouth I condemn you. So you knew that I wasan exacting man, gathering in what I have not laid out and reaping what I have not sown?	22 Gli rispose: “Dalle tue stesse parole ti giudico, servo malvagio! Sapevi che sono un uomo severo, che prendo quello che non ho messo in deposito e mieto quello che non ho seminato:
23 Then why did you not put my money in the bank? On my return I could have drawn it out withinterest."	23 perché allora non hai consegnato il mio denaro a una banca? Al mio ritorno l’avrei riscosso con gli interessi”.
24 And he said to those standing by, "Take the pound from him and give it to the man who has tenpounds."	24 Disse poi ai presenti: “Toglietegli la moneta d’oro e datela a colui che ne ha dieci”.
25 And they said to him, "But, sir, he has ten pounds . . ."	25 Gli risposero: “Signore, ne ha già dieci!”.
26 "I tel you, to everyone who has wil be given more; but anyone who has not wil be deprived even ofwhat he has.	26 “Io vi dico: A chi ha, sarà dato; invece a chi non ha, sarà tolto anche quello che ha.
27 "As for my enemies who did not want me for their king, bring them here and execute them in mypresence." '	27 E quei miei nemici, che non volevano che io diventassi loro re, conduceteli qui e uccideteli davanti a me”».
28 When he had said this he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.	28 Dette queste cose, Gesù camminava davanti a tutti salendo verso Gerusalemme.
29 Now it happened that when he was near Bethphage and Bethany, close by the Mount of Olives as itis cal ed, he sent two of the disciples, saying,	29 Quando fu vicino a Bètfage e a Betània, presso il monte detto degli Ulivi, inviò due discepoli
30 'Go to the vil age opposite, and as you enter it you wil find a tethered colt that no one has ever yetridden. Untie it and bring it here.	30 dicendo: «Andate nel villaggio di fronte; entrando, troverete un puledro legato, sul quale non è mai salito nessuno. Slegatelo e conducetelo qui.
31 If anyone asks you, "Why are you untying it?" you are to say this, "The Master needs it." '	31 E se qualcuno vi domanda: “Perché lo slegate?”, risponderete così: “Il Signore ne ha bisogno”».
32 The messengers went off and found everything just as he had told them.	32 Gli inviati andarono e trovarono come aveva loro detto.
33 As they were untying the colt, its owners said, 'Why are you untying it?'	33 Mentre slegavano il puledro, i proprietari dissero loro: «Perché slegate il puledro?».
34 and they answered, 'The Master needs it.'	34 Essi risposero: «Il Signore ne ha bisogno».
35 So they took the colt to Jesus and, throwing their cloaks on its back, they lifted Jesus on to it.	35 Lo condussero allora da Gesù; e gettati i loro mantelli sul puledro, vi fecero salire Gesù.
36 As he moved off, they spread their cloaks in the road,	36 Mentre egli avanzava, stendevano i loro mantelli sulla strada.
37 and now, as he was approaching the downward slope of the Mount of Olives, the whole group ofdisciples joyful y began to praise God at the top of their voices for all the miracles they had seen.	37 Era ormai vicino alla discesa del monte degli Ulivi, quando tutta la folla dei discepoli, pieni di gioia, cominciò a lodare Dio a gran voce per tutti i prodigi che avevano veduto,
38 They cried out: Blessed is he who is coming as King in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven andglory in the highest heavens!	38 dicendo: «Benedetto colui che viene, il re, nel nome del Signore. Pace in cielo e gloria nel più alto dei cieli!».
39 Some Pharisees in the crowd said to him, 'Master, reprove your disciples,'	39 Alcuni farisei tra la folla gli dissero: «Maestro, rimprovera i tuoi discepoli».
40 but he answered, 'I tell you, if these keep silence, the stones wil cry out.'	40 Ma egli rispose: «Io vi dico che, se questi taceranno, grideranno le pietre».
41 As he drew near and came in sight of the city he shed tears over it	41 Quando fu vicino, alla vista della città pianse su di essa
42 and said, 'If you too had only recognised on this day the way to peace! But in fact it is hidden fromyour eyes!	42 dicendo: «Se avessi compreso anche tu, in questo giorno, quello che porta alla pace! Ma ora è stato nascosto ai tuoi occhi.
43 Yes, a time is coming when your enemies wil raise fortifications all round you, when they wil encircleyou and hem you in on every side;	43 Per te verranno giorni in cui i tuoi nemici ti circonderanno di trincee, ti assedieranno e ti stringeranno da ogni parte;
44 they wil dash you and the children inside your wal s to the ground; they wil leave not one stonestanding on another within you, because you did not recognise the moment of your visitation.'	44 distruggeranno te e i tuoi figli dentro di te e non lasceranno in te pietra su pietra, perché non hai riconosciuto il tempo in cui sei stata visitata».
45 Then he went into the Temple and began driving out those who were busy trading, saying to them,	45 Ed entrato nel tempio, si mise a scacciare quelli che vendevano,
46 'According to scripture, my house shal be a house of prayer but you have turned it into a bandits'den.'	46 dicendo loro: «Sta scritto: La mia casa sarà casa di preghiera. Voi invece ne avete fatto un covo di ladri».
47 He taught in the Temple every day. The chief priests and the scribes, in company with the leadingcitizens, tried to do away with him,	47 Ogni giorno insegnava nel tempio. I capi dei sacerdoti e gli scribi cercavano di farlo morire e così anche i capi del popolo;
48 but they could not find a way to carry this out because the whole people hung on his words.	48 ma non sapevano che cosa fare, perché tutto il popolo pendeva dalle sue labbra nell’ascoltarlo.
