Luke 19

NEW JERUSALEM	NOVA VULGATA
1 He entered Jericho and was going through the town	1 Et ingressus perambulabat Iericho.
2 and suddenly a man whose name was Zacchaeus made his appearance; he was one of the senior taxcol ectors and a wealthy man.	2 Et ecce vir nomine Zacchaeus, ethic erat princeps publicanorum et ipse dives.
3 He kept trying to see which Jesus was, but he was too short and could not see him for the crowd;	3 Et quaerebat videre Iesum, quisesset, et non poterat prae turba, quia statura pusillus erat.
4 so he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore tree to catch a glimpse of Jesus who was to pass that way.	4 Et praecurrensascendit in arborem sycomorum, ut videret illum, quia inde erat transiturus.
5 When Jesus reached the spot he looked up and spoke to him, 'Zacchaeus, come down. Hurry,because I am to stay at your house today.'	5 Et cum venisset ad locum, suspiciens Iesus dixit ad eum: “ Zacchaee, festinansdescende, nam hodie in domo tua oportet me manere ”.
6 And he hurried down and welcomed him joyful y.	6 Et festinans descenditet excepit illum gaudens.
7 They al complained when they saw what was happening. 'He has gone to stay at a sinner's house,'they said.	7 Et cum viderent, omnes murmurabant dicentes: “ Adhominem peccatorem divertit! ”.
8 But Zacchaeus stood his ground and said to the Lord, 'Look, sir, I am going to give half my property tothe poor, and if I have cheated anybody I wil pay him back four times the amount.'	8 Stans autem Zacchaeus dixit ad Dominum: “Ecce dimidium bonorum meorum, Domine, do pauperibus et, si quid aliquemdefraudavi, reddo quadruplum ”.
9 And Jesus said to him, 'Today salvation has come to this house, because this man too is a son ofAbraham;	9 Ait autem Iesus ad eum: “ Hodie salusdomui huic facta est, eo quod et ipse filius sit Abrahae;
10 for the Son of man has come to seek out and save what was lost.'	10 venit enim Filiushominis quaerere et salvum facere, quod perierat ”.
11 While the people were listening to this he went on to tel a parable, because he was near Jerusalemand they thought that the kingdom of God was going to show itself then and there.	11 Haec autem illis audientibus, adiciens dixit parabolam, eo quod esset propeIerusalem, et illi existimarent quod confestim regnum Dei manifestaretur.
12 Accordingly he said, 'A man of noble birth went to a distant country to be appointed king and thenreturn.	12 Dixit ergo: “ Homo quidam nobilis abiit in regionem longinquam accipere sibiregnum et reverti.
13 He summoned ten of his servants and gave them ten pounds, tel ing them, "Trade with these, until Iget back."	13 Vocatis autem decem servis suis, dedit illis decem minaset ait ad illos: “Negotiamini, dum venio”.
14 But his compatriots detested him and sent a delegation to fol ow him with this message, "We do notwant this man to be our king."	14 Cives autem eius oderant illumet miserunt legationem post illum dicentes: “Nolumus hunc regnare super nos!”.
15 'Now it happened that on his return, having received his appointment as king, he sent for thoseservants to whom he had given the money, to find out what profit each had made by trading.	15 Et factum est ut rediret, accepto regno, et iussit ad se vocari servos illos,quibus dedit pecuniam, ut sciret quantum negotiati essent.
16 The first came in, "Sir," he said, "your one pound has brought in ten."	16 Venit autem primusdicens: “Domine, mina tua decem minas acquisivit”.
17 He replied, "Wel done, my good servant! Since you have proved yourself trustworthy in a very smalthing, you shal have the government of ten cities."	17 Et ait illi: “Euge,bone serve; quia in modico fidelis fuisti, esto potestatem habens supra decemcivitates”.
18 Then came the second, "Sir," he said, "your one pound has made five."	18 Et alter venit dicens: “Mina tua, domine, fecit quinque minas”.
19 To this one also he said, "And you shal be in charge of five cities."	19 Et huic ait: “Et tu esto supra quinque civitates”.
20 Next came the other, "Sir," he said, "here is your pound. I put it away safely wrapped up in a cloth	20 Et alter venitdicens: “Domine, ecce mina tua, quam habui repositam in sudario;
21 because I was afraid of you; for you are an exacting man: you gather in what you have not laid outand reap what you have not sown."	21 timui enimte, quia homo austerus es: tollis, quod non posuisti, et metis, quod nonseminasti”.
22 He said to him, "You wicked servant! Out of your own mouth I condemn you. So you knew that I wasan exacting man, gathering in what I have not laid out and reaping what I have not sown?	22 Dicit ei: “De ore tuo te iudico, serve nequam! Sciebas quodego austerus homo sum, tollens quod non posui et metens quod non seminavi?
23 Then why did you not put my money in the bank? On my return I could have drawn it out withinterest."	23 Etquare non dedisti pecuniam meam ad mensam? Et ego veniens cum usuris utiqueexegissem illud”.
24 And he said to those standing by, "Take the pound from him and give it to the man who has tenpounds."	24 Et adstantibus dixit: “Auferte ab illo minam et dateilli, qui decem minas habet”.
25 And they said to him, "But, sir, he has ten pounds . . ."	25 Et dixerunt ei: “Domine, habet decem minas!”.
26 "I tel you, to everyone who has wil be given more; but anyone who has not wil be deprived even ofwhat he has.	26 Dico vobis: “Omni habenti dabitur; ab eo autem, qui non habet, et, quodhabet, auferetur.
27 "As for my enemies who did not want me for their king, bring them here and execute them in mypresence." '	27 Verumtamen inimicos meos illos, qui noluerunt me regnaresuper se, adducite huc et interficite ante me! ”.
28 When he had said this he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.	28 Et his dictis, praecedebat ascendens Hierosolymam.
29 Now it happened that when he was near Bethphage and Bethany, close by the Mount of Olives as itis cal ed, he sent two of the disciples, saying,	29 Et factum est, cum appropinquasset ad Bethfage et Bethaniam, ad montem, quivocatur Oliveti, misit duos discipulos
30 'Go to the vil age opposite, and as you enter it you wil find a tethered colt that no one has ever yetridden. Untie it and bring it here.	30 dicens: “ Ite in castellum, quodcontra est, in quod introeuntes invenietis pullum asinae alligatum, cui nemoumquam hominum sedit; solvite illum et adducite.
31 If anyone asks you, "Why are you untying it?" you are to say this, "The Master needs it." '	31 Et si quis vosinterrogaverit: “Quare solvitis?”, sic dicetis: “Dominus eum necessariumhabet” ”.
32 The messengers went off and found everything just as he had told them.	32 Abierunt autem, qui missi erant, et invenerunt, sicut dixitillis.
33 As they were untying the colt, its owners said, 'Why are you untying it?'	33 Solventibus autem illis pullum, dixerunt domini eius ad illos: “Quid solvitis pullum? ”.
34 and they answered, 'The Master needs it.'	34 At illi dixerunt: “ Dominus eum necessariumhabet ”.
35 So they took the colt to Jesus and, throwing their cloaks on its back, they lifted Jesus on to it.	35 Et duxerunt illum ad Iesum; et iactantes vestimenta sua suprapullum, imposuerunt Iesum.
36 As he moved off, they spread their cloaks in the road,	36 Eunte autem illo, substernebant vestimenta sua invia.
37 and now, as he was approaching the downward slope of the Mount of Olives, the whole group ofdisciples joyful y began to praise God at the top of their voices for all the miracles they had seen.	37 Et cum appropinquaret iam ad descensum montis Oliveti, coeperunt omnismultitudo discipulorum gaudentes laudare Deum voce magna super omnibus, quasviderant, virtutibus
38 They cried out: Blessed is he who is coming as King in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven andglory in the highest heavens!	38 dicentes: “ Benedictus, qui venit rex in nomine Domini! Pax in caelo, et gloria in excelsis! ”.
39 Some Pharisees in the crowd said to him, 'Master, reprove your disciples,'	39 Et quidam pharisaeorum de turbis dixerunt ad illum: “ Magister, increpadiscipulos tuos! ”.
40 but he answered, 'I tell you, if these keep silence, the stones wil cry out.'	40 Et respondens dixit: “ Dico vobis: Si hi tacuerint,lapides clamabunt! ”.
41 As he drew near and came in sight of the city he shed tears over it	41 Et ut appropinquavit, videns civitatem flevit super illam
42 and said, 'If you too had only recognised on this day the way to peace! But in fact it is hidden fromyour eyes!	42 dicens: “ Sicognovisses et tu in hac die, quae ad pacem tibi! Nunc autem abscondita sunt aboculis tuis.
43 Yes, a time is coming when your enemies wil raise fortifications all round you, when they wil encircleyou and hem you in on every side;	43 Quia venient dies in te, et circumdabunt te inimici tui vallo etobsidebunt te et coangustabunt te undique
44 they wil dash you and the children inside your wal s to the ground; they wil leave not one stonestanding on another within you, because you did not recognise the moment of your visitation.'	44 et ad terram prosternent te etfilios tuos, qui in te sunt, et non relinquent in te lapidem super lapidem, eoquod non cognoveris tempus visitationis tuae ”.
45 Then he went into the Temple and began driving out those who were busy trading, saying to them,	45 Et ingressus in templum, coepit eicere vendentes
46 'According to scripture, my house shal be a house of prayer but you have turned it into a bandits'den.'	46 dicens illis: “Scriptum est: “Et erit domus mea domus orationis”. Vos autem fecistis illamspeluncam latronum ”.
47 He taught in the Temple every day. The chief priests and the scribes, in company with the leadingcitizens, tried to do away with him,	47 Et erat docens cotidie in templo. Principes autem sacerdotum et scribae etprincipes plebis quaerebant illum perdere
48 but they could not find a way to carry this out because the whole people hung on his words.	48 et non inveniebant quid facerent;omnis enim populus suspensus erat audiens illum.
