1 Yahweh spoke to Moses, in the desert of Sinai, in the Tent of Meeting, on the first day of the secondmonth, in the second year after the exodus from Egypt, and said:	1 Am ersten Tag des zweiten Monats im zweiten Jahr nach dem Auszug aus Ägypten sprach der Herr in der Wüste Sinai im Offenbarungszelt zu Mose:
2 'Take a census of the whole community of Israelites by clans and families, taking a count of the namesof al the males, head by head.	2 Ermittelt die Gesamtzahl der Israeliten in der Gemeinde, geordnet nach Sippenverbänden und Großfamilien; zählt mit Namen alle Männer,
3 You and Aaron wil register al those in Israel, twenty years of age and over, fit to bear arms, companyby company;	3 die zwanzig Jahre und älter sind, alle wehrfähigen Israeliten. Mustert sie für ihre Heeresverbände, du und Aaron!
4 you wil have one man from each tribe, the head of his family, to help you.	4 Aus jedem Stamm soll euch dabei ein Mann helfen, und zwar jeweils das Haupt einer Großfamilie.
5 'These are the names of those who must help you: For Reuben, Elizur son of Shedeur.	5 Das sind die Namen der Männer, die euch helfen sollen: aus Ruben Elizur, der Sohn Schedëurs;
6 For Simeon, Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai.	6 aus Simeon Schelumiël, der Sohn Zurischaddais;
7 For Judah, Nahshon son of Amminadab.	7 aus Juda Nachschon, der Sohn Amminadabs;
8 For Issachar, Nethanel son of Zuar.	8 aus Issachar Netanel, der Sohn Zuars;
9 For Zebulun, Eliab son of Helon.	9 aus Sebulon Eliab, der Sohn Helons;
10 Of the sons of Joseph: for Ephraim, Elishama son of Ammihud; for Manasseh, Gamaliel son ofPedahzur.	10 von den Nachkommen Josefs: aus Efraim Elischama, der Sohn Ammihuds, und aus Manasse Gamliël, der Sohn Pedazurs;
11 For Benjamin, Abidan son of Gideoni.	11 aus Benjamin Abidan, der Sohn Gidonis;

16 These were men of repute in the community; they were the leaders of their ancestral tribes, the headsof Israel's thousands.	16 Das sind die von der Gemeinde berufenen Anführer der Stämme ihrer Väter, die Befehlshaber der Tausendschaften Israels.
17 Moses and Aaron took these men who had been named	17 Mose und Aaron nahmen diese namentlich genannten Männer
18 and on the first day of the second month they mustered the whole community. The Israelitesestablished their pedigrees by clans and families, and one by one the names of all men of twenty years and overwere recorded.	18 und versammelten die ganze Gemeinde am ersten Tag des zweiten Monats. Dann ermittelte man die Abstammung aller Männer von zwanzig Jahren und darüber; man zählte sie namentlich, geordnet nach Sippen und Großfamilien.
19 As Yahweh had ordered, Moses registered them in the desert of Sinai.	19 Wie der Herr es Mose befohlen hatte, so musterte man sie in der Wüste Sinai.
20 Once the pedigrees of the descendants of Reuben, Israel's first-born, had been established by clansand families, the names of all the males of twenty years and over, fit to bear arms, were recorded one by one.	20 Zuerst kamen die Nachkommen Rubens, des Erstgeborenen Israels: Man ermittelte ihre Geschlechterfolge nach Sippen und Großfamilien und zählte mit Namen alle Männer von zwanzig Jahren und darüber, alle Wehrfähigen.
21 The total of these for the tribe of Reuben was forty-six thousand five hundred.	21 Die Zahl der aus dem Stamm Ruben Gemusterten betrug 46500 Mann.
22 Once the pedigrees of Simeon's descendants had been established by clans and families, the namesof al the males of twenty years and over, fit to bear arms, were recorded one by one.	22 Sodann die Simeoniter: Man ermittelte ihre Geschlechterfolge nach Sippen und Großfamilien und zählte mit Namen alle Männer von zwanzig Jahren und darüber, alle Wehrfähigen.
23 The total of these for the tribe of Simeon was fifty-nine thousand three hundred.	23 Die Zahl der aus dem Stamm Simeon Gemusterten betrug 59300 Mann.

32 As regards the descendants of Joseph: once the pedigrees of Ephraim's descendants had beenestablished by clans and families, the names of all the males of twenty years and over, fit to bear arms, wererecorded one by one.	32 Sodann die Nachkommen Josefs, zuerst die Efraimiter: Man ermittelte ihre Geschlechterfolge nach Sippen und Großfamilien und zählte mit Namen alle wehrfähigen Männer von zwanzig Jahren und darüber.
33 The total of these for the tribe of Ephraim was forty thousand five hundred.	33 Die Zahl der aus dem Stamm Efraim Gemusterten betrug 40500 Mann.
34 Once the pedigrees of Manasseh's descendants had been established by clans and families, thenames of al the males of twenty years and over, fit to bear arms, were recorded one by one.	34 Sodann die Manassiter: Man ermittelte ihre Geschlechterfolge nach Sippen und Großfamilien und zählte mit Namen alle wehrfähigen Männer von zwanzig Jahren und darüber.

40 Once the pedigrees of Asher's descendants had been established by clans and families, the namesof al the males of twenty years and over, fit to bear arms, were recorded one by one.	40 Sodann die Ascheriter: Man ermittelte ihre Geschlechterfolge nach Sippen und Großfamilien und zählte mit Namen alle wehrfähigen Männer von zwanzig Jahren und darüber.
41 The total of these for the tribe of Asher was forty-one thousand five hundred.	41 Die Zahl der aus dem Stamm Ascher Gemusterten betrug 41500 Mann.
42 Once the pedigrees of Naphtali's descendants had been established by clans and families, thenames of al the males of twenty years and over, fit to bear arms, were recorded one by one.	42 Sodann die Naftaliter: Man ermittelte ihre Geschlechterfolge nach Sippen und Großfamilien und zählte mit Namen alle wehrfähigen Männer von zwanzig Jahren und darüber.
43 The total of these for the tribe of Naphtali was fifty-three thousand four hundred.	43 Die Zahl der aus dem Stamm Naftali Gemusterten betrug 53400 Mann.
44 Such were the men registered by Moses, Aaron and the leaders of Israel, of whom there were twelve,each representing his family.	44 Das waren die Gemusterten, die Mose und Aaron zusammen mit den Anführern Israels zählten; es waren zwölf Anführer, aus jedem Stamm einer, jeweils das Haupt einer Großfamilie.
45 Al the Israelites of twenty years and over, fit to bear arms, were counted by families.	45 So ergab sich die Gesamtzahl der gemusterten Israeliten, geordnet nach Großfamilien, also aller wehrfähigen Männer in Israel von zwanzig Jahren und darüber.
46 Altogether, the total came to six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.	46 Als Gesamtzahl der Gemusterten ergab sich 603550 Mann.
47 But the Levites and their tribes were not included in the count.	47 Die aber, die dem Stamm ihrer Väter nach Leviten waren, wurden nicht gemustert.
48 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:	48 Der Herr sprach zu Mose:
49 'Do not, however, take a census of the Levites, or register them with the other Israelites,	49 Unter den Israeliten sollst du nur den Stamm Levi nicht mustern und zählen.
50 but enrol the Levites to take charge of the Dwel ing where the Testimony is and of al its furnishingsand belongings. They must carry the Dwel ing and al its furnishings; they must look after the Dwel ing and pitchtheir camp round it.	50 Betrau die Leviten mit der Sorge für die Wohnstätte der Bundesurkunde, für ihre Geräte und für alles, was dazu gehört. Sie sollen die Wohnstätte und alle ihre Geräte tragen und sollen sie pflegen; sie sollen ihren Lagerplatz rings um die Wohnstätte haben.
51 Whenever the Dwelling is moved, the Levites will dismantle it; whenever the Dwel ing stops for thenight, the Levites wil erect it. Any unauthorised person coming near it will be put to death.	51 Wenn die Wohnstätte weitergetragen werden soll, sollen die Leviten sie abbauen, und wenn die Wohnstätte das Lager bezieht, sollen die Leviten sie aufstellen. Wer ihr zu nahe kommt, ohne dazu befugt zu sein, wird mit dem Tod bestraft.
52 The Israelites wil pitch their tents, each in their own encampment and by their own standard,company by company,	52 Im Lager soll jeder Israelit sein Zelt an der Stelle aufschlagen, zu der er gehört, und bei dem Feldzeichen, zu dem er gehört, also bei seiner Abteilung im Heer.
53 but the Levites wil pitch their tents round the Dwel ing where the Testimony is. In this way Retributionwil be kept from fal ing on the whole community of Israelites, and the Levites wil keep charge of the Dwel ing ofthe Testimony.'	53 Die Leviten aber sollen ihr Lager rings um die Wohnstätte der Bundesurkunde aufschlagen, damit nicht der Zorn (Gottes) die Gemeinde der Israeliten trifft; die Leviten sollen auf die Anordnung über die Wohnstätte der Bundesurkunde achten.
54 The Israelites did exactly as Yahweh had ordered Moses. They did as he said.	54 Die Israeliten taten alles genau so, wie es der Herr dem Mose befohlen hatte. So machten sie es.
