NEW JERUSALEMBIBBIA
Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron,1 Il Signore aggiunse a Mosè e ad Aronne:
'If a swel ing or scab or spot appears on someone's skin, which could develop into a contagious skin-disease, that person must then be taken to the priest, either Aaron or one of his sons.2 "Quando uno ha sulla pelle del corpo un tumore o una pustola o macchia bianca che faccia sospettare una piaga di lebbra, quel tale sarà condotto dal sacerdote Aronne o da qualcuno dei sacerdoti, suoi figli.
The priest wil examine the disease on the skin. If the hair on the diseased part has turned white, or ifthe disease bites into the skin, the skin-disease is contagious, and after examination the priest wil declare theperson unclean.3 Il sacerdote esaminerà la piaga sulla pelle del corpo; se il pelo della piaga è diventato bianco e la piaga appare depressa rispetto alla pelle del corpo, è piaga di lebbra; il sacerdote, dopo averlo esaminato, dichiarerà quell'uomo immondo.
But if there is a white spot on the skin without any visible depression of the skin or whitening of thehair, the priest wil isolate the sick person for seven days.4 Ma se la macchia sulla pelle del corpo è bianca e non appare depressa rispetto alla pelle e il suo pelo non è diventato bianco, il sacerdote isolerà per sette giorni colui che ha la piaga.
On the seventh day he wil examine the person, and if he observes that the disease persists thoughwithout spreading over the skin, he will isolate the person for a further seven days5 Al settimo giorno il sacerdote l'esaminerà ancora; se gli parrà che la piaga si sia fermata senza allargarsi sulla pelle, il sacerdote lo isolerà per altri sette giorni.
and examine him again on the seventh. If he finds that the disease has faded and has not spread overthe skin, the priest wil declare the person clean. This was merely a scab.
'But if the scab spreads over the skin after the sick person has been examined by the priest anddeclared clean, then he wil let himself be examined again by the priest.7 Ma se la pustola si è allargata sulla pelle, dopo che egli si è mostrato al sacerdote per essere dichiarato mondo, si farà esaminare di nuovo dal sacerdote;
After examining him and certifying the spread of the scab over the skin, the priest wil declare himunclean: it is a contagious skin-disease.8 il sacerdote l'esaminerà e se vedrà che la pustola si è allargata sulla pelle, il sacerdote lo dichiarerà immondo: è lebbra.
'Someone who has a contagious skin-disease must be taken to the priest.9 Quando uno avrà addosso una piaga di lebbra, sarà condotto al sacerdote,
The priest wil examine the sick person, and if he finds a whitish swel ing with whitening of the hairand an ulcer forming on the skin,10 ed egli lo esaminerà; se vedrà che sulla pelle c'è un tumore bianco, che questo tumore ha fatto imbiancare il pelo e che nel tumore si trova carne viva,
this is a dormant skin-disease, and the priest wil declare the person unclean. He wil not isolate him;he is obviously unclean.11 è lebbra inveterata nella pelle del corpo e il sacerdote lo dichiarerà immondo; non lo terrà isolato, perché certo è immondo.
'But if the disease spreads all through the skin, if it covers the person entirely from head to foot so faras the priest can see,12 Se la lebbra si propaga sulla pelle in modo da coprire tutta la pelle di colui che ha la piaga, dal capo ai piedi, dovunque il sacerdote guardi,
the priest wil then examine the sick person and, if he finds that the skin-disease covers his wholebody, declare the sick person clean. Since it has al become white, he is clean.13 questi lo esaminerà; se vedrà che la lebbra copre tutto il corpo, dichiarerà mondo colui che ha la piaga: essendo tutto bianco, è mondo.
But as soon as an ulcer appears on him, he wil be unclean.14 Ma quando apparirà in lui carne viva, sarà chiamato immondo.
After examining the ulcer, the priest will declare him unclean: the ulcer is unclean, it is contagious.15 Il sacerdote, vista la carne viva, lo dichiarerà immondo; la carne viva è immonda: è lebbra.
But if the ulcer becomes white again, the sick person wil go to the priest;16 Ma se la carne viva ridiventa bianca, egli vada dal sacerdote e il sacerdote lo esaminerà;
the priest wil examine him and if he finds that the disease has turned white, he wil declare the sickperson clean: he is clean.17 se vedrà che la piaga è ridiventata bianca, il sacerdote dichiarerà mondo colui che ha la piaga: è mondo.
'When an ulcer appears on someone's skin, and then gets better,18 Quando uno ha avuto sulla pelle della carne un'ulcera che sia guarita
and if then a white swel ing or a reddish-white spot forms on the same place, the sick person wilshow himself to the priest.19 e poi, sul luogo dell'ulcera, appaia un tumore bianco o una macchia bianca, rosseggiante, quel tale si mostrerà al sacerdote,
The priest wil examine him, and if he finds a visible depression in the skin and a whitening of thehair, he wil declare the person unclean: this is a case of contagious skin-disease breaking out in an ulcer.20 il quale l'esaminerà e se vedrà che la macchia è depressa rispetto alla pelle e che il pelo è diventato bianco, il sacerdote lo dichiarerà immondo; è una piaga di lebbra che è scoppiata nell'ulcera.
But if on examination the priest finds neither white hair nor depression of the skin, but a fading of theaffected part, he wil isolate the sick person for seven days.21 Ma se il sacerdote, esaminandola, vede che nella macchia non ci sono peli bianchi, che non è depressa rispetto alla pelle e che si è attenuata, il sacerdote lo isolerà per sette giorni.
If the disease has then spread over the skin, he will declare the person unclean: this is a case ofcontagious skin-disease.22 Se la macchia si allarga sulla pelle, il sacerdote lo dichiarerà immondo: è una piaga di lebbra.
But if the spot has stayed where it was and has not spread, it is the scar of the ulcer and the priestwil declare the person clean.23 Ma se la macchia è rimasta allo stesso punto, senza allargarsi, è una cicatrice di ulcera e il sacerdote lo dichiarerà mondo.
'If someone has a burn on the skin and an abscess, a reddish-white or white spot, forms on the burn,24 Quando uno ha sulla pelle del corpo una scottatura prodotta da fuoco e su questa appaia una macchia lucida, bianca, rossastra o soltanto bianca,
the priest wil then examine it. If he finds a whitening of the hair or a visible depression of the mark onthe skin, a contagious disease has broken out in the burn.
If on the other hand the priest on examination does not find white hair on the mark or depression ofthe skin, but a fading of the mark, the priest will isolate the person for seven days.26 Ma se il sacerdote, esaminandola, vede che non c'è pelo bianco nella macchia e che essa non è depressa rispetto alla pelle e si è attenuata, il sacerdote lo isolerà per sette giorni.
He wil examine the person on the seventh day and, if the disease has spread over the skin, he wildeclare the sick person unclean: this is a case of contagious skin-disease.27 Al settimo giorno il sacerdote lo esaminerà e se la macchia si è diffusa sulla pelle, il sacerdote lo dichiarerà immondo: è una piaga di lebbra.
If the mark has stayed where it was and has not spread over the skin, but has faded instead, it wasonly a swel ing due to the burn. The priest wil declare the person clean: it is merely a burn scar.28 Ma se la macchia è rimasta ferma nella stessa zona e non si è diffusa sulla pelle, ma si è attenuata, è un tumore di bruciatura; il sacerdote dichiarerà quel tale mondo, perché si tratta di una cicatrice della bruciatura.
'If a man or a woman has a sore on the head or chin,29 Quando un uomo o una donna ha una piaga sul capo o nella barba,
the priest wil examine the sore; and if he finds a depression visible in the skin, with the hair on ityel ow and thin, he wil declare the sick person unclean: this is tinea, that is to say, a contagious skin-disease of the head or chin.30 il sacerdote esaminerà la piaga; se riscontra che essa è depressa rispetto alla pelle e che v'è del pelo gialliccio e sottile, il sacerdote lo dichiarerà immondo: è tigna, lebbra del capo o della barba.
If on examining this case of tinea the priest finds no visible depression in the skin and no yellow hair,he wil isolate the person so affected for seven days.31 Ma se il sacerdote, esaminando la piaga della tigna, riscontra che non è depressa rispetto alla pelle e che non vi è pelo scuro, il sacerdote isolerà per sette giorni colui che ha la piaga della tigna.
He wil examine the infected part on the seventh day, and if he finds that the tinea has not spread, that the hair on it is not yel ow, and that there is no visible depression in the skin,32 Se il sacerdote, esaminando al settimo giorno la piaga, vedrà che la tigna non si è allargata e che non v'è pelo gialliccio e che la tigna non appare depressa rispetto alla pelle,
the sick person will shave his hair off, all except the part affected with tinea, and the priest wil againisolate him for seven days.33 quel tale si raderà, ma non raderà il luogo dove è la tigna; il sacerdote lo terrà isolato per altri sette giorni.
He wil examine the infected part on the seventh day, and if he finds that it has not spread over theskin, and that there is no visible depression of the skin, the priest wil declare the sick person clean. Afterwashing his clothes the person wil be clean.34 Al settimo giorno, il sacerdote esaminerà la tigna; se riscontra che la tigna non si è allargata sulla pelle e non appare depressa rispetto alla pelle, il sacerdote lo dichiarerà mondo; egli si laverà le vesti e sarà mondo.
But if after this purification the tinea does spread over the skin,35 Ma se, dichiarato mondo, la tigna si è allargata sulla pelle,
the priest wil examine the person; if he finds that the tinea has indeed spread over the skin, the sickperson is unclean, and there is no need to verify whether the hair is yellow.36 il sacerdote l'esaminerà; se nota che la tigna si è allargata sulla pelle, non cercherà se vi è il pelo giallo; quel tale è immondo.
Whereas if, so far as he can see, the tinea is arrested and dark hair is beginning to grow on it, thesick person is cured. He is clean, and the priest will declare him clean.37 Ma se vedrà che la tigna si è fermata e vi è cresciuto il pelo scuro, la tigna è guarita; quel tale è mondo e il sacerdote lo dichiarerà tale.
'If spots break out on the skin of a man or woman, and if these spots are white,38 Quando un uomo o una donna ha sulla pelle del corpo macchie lucide, bianche,
the priest wil examine them. If he finds that the spots are of a dul white, this is a rash that hasbroken out on the skin: the sick person is clean.39 il sacerdote le esaminerà; se vedrà che le macchie sulla pelle del loro corpo sono di un bianco pallido, è un'eruzione cutanea; quel tale è mondo.
'If someone loses the hair of the scalp, this is baldness of the scalp but the person is clean.40 Chi perde i capelli del capo è calvo, ma è mondo.
If he loses hair off the front of the head, this is baldness of the forehead but the person is clean.41 Se i capelli gli sono caduti dal lato della fronte, è calvo davanti, ma è mondo.
If, however, a reddish-white sore appears on scalp or forehead, a contagious skin-disease hasbroken out on the scalp or forehead.42 Ma se sulla calvizie del cranio o della fronte appare una piaga bianca tendente al rosso, è lebbra scoppiata sulla calvizie del cranio o della fronte;
The priest wil examine it, and if he finds a reddish-white swel ing on scalp or forehead, looking like acontagious skin-disease,43 il sacerdote lo esaminerà: se riscontra che il tumore della piaga nella parte calva del cranio o della fronte è bianco tendente al rosso, simile alla lebbra della pelle del corpo,
the person has such a disease: he is unclean. The priest will declare him unclean; he has acontagious skin-disease of the head.44 quel tale è un lebbroso; è immondo e lo dovrà dichiarare immondo; la piaga è sul suo capo.
'Anyone with a contagious skin-disease wil wear torn clothing and disordered hair; and wil cover theupper lip and shout, "Unclean, unclean."45 Il lebbroso colpito dalla lebbra porterà vesti strappate e il capo scoperto, si coprirà la barba e andrà gridando: Immondo! Immondo!
As long as the disease lasts, such a person wil be unclean and, being unclean, will live alone andlive outside the camp.46 Sarà immondo finché avrà la piaga; è immondo, se ne starà solo, abiterà fuori dell'accampamento.
'When a piece of clothing is infected with mould, be it wool en or linen clothing,47 Quando apparirà una macchia di lebbra su una veste, di lana o di lino,
linen or wool en fabric or covering, or leather or anything made of leather,48 nel tessuto o nel manufatto di lino o di lana, su una pelliccia o qualunque altra cosa di cuoio,
if the spot on the clothing, leather, fabric, covering or object made of leather is a greenish or reddishcolour, it is a disease to be shown to the priest.49 se la macchia sarà verdastra o rossastra, sulla veste o sulla pelliccia, sul tessuto o sul manufatto o su qualunque cosa di cuoio, è macchia di lebbra e sarà mostrata al sacerdote.
The priest wil examine the infection and isolate the object for seven days.50 Il sacerdote esaminerà la macchia e rinchiuderà per sette giorni l'oggetto che ha la macchia.
If on the seventh day he observes that the infection has spread on the clothing, fabric, covering, leather or object made of leather, whatever it may be, this is a contagious disease and the object is unclean.51 Al settimo giorno esaminerà la macchia; se la macchia si sarà allargata sulla veste o sul tessuto o sul manufatto o sulla pelliccia o sull'oggetto di cuoio per qualunque uso, è una macchia di lebbra maligna, è cosa immonda.
He wil burn this clothing, fabric, linen or woollen covering or leather object whatever it may be, onwhich the infection has appeared; for this is a contagious disease which must be destroyed by fire.52 Egli brucerà quella veste o il tessuto o il manufatto di lana o di lino o qualunque oggetto fatto di pelle, sul quale è la macchia; perché è lebbra maligna, saranno bruciati nel fuoco.
'But if on examination the priest finds that the infection has not spread on the clothing, fabric, covering, or leather object whatever it may be,53 Ma se il sacerdote, esaminandola, vedrà che la macchia non si è allargata sulle vesti o sul tessuto o sul manufatto o su qualunque oggetto di cuoio,
he wil order the infected object to be washed and wil isolate it again for a period of seven days.54 il sacerdote ordinerà che si lavi l'oggetto su cui è la macchia e lo rinchiuderà per altri sette giorni.
After the washing, he wil examine the infection and if he finds that there is no change in itsappearance, even though it has not spread, the article is unclean. You wil burn it; it is infected through andthrough.55 Il sacerdote esaminerà la macchia, dopo che sarà stata lavata; se vedrà che la macchia non ha mutato colore, benché non si sia allargata, è un oggetto immondo; lo brucerai nel fuoco; vi è corrosione, sia che la parte corrosa si trovi sul diritto o sul rovescio dell'oggetto.
'But if on examination the priest finds that the infection has diminished after washing, he will tear it outof the clothing, leather, fabric or covering.56 Se il sacerdote, esaminandola, vede che la macchia, dopo essere stata lavata, è diventata pallida, la strapperà dalla veste o dalla pelle o dal tessuto o dal manufatto.
But if the infection reappears on the same clothing, fabric, covering or leather object whatever it maybe, this means that the infection is active; you will burn whatever is infected.57 Se appare ancora sulla veste o sul tessuto o sul manufatto o sull'oggetto di cuoio, è una eruzione in atto; brucerai nel fuoco l'oggetto su cui è la macchia.
The clothing, fabric, covering or leather object whatever it may be, from which the infectiondisappears after being washed, wil be clean after it has been washed a second time.58 La veste o il tessuto o il manufatto o qualunque oggetto di cuoio che avrai lavato e dal quale la macchia sarà scomparsa, si laverà una seconda volta e sarà mondo.
'Such is the law governing disease in a linen or wool en garment, a fabric or covering or leather objectwhatever it may be, when it is a question of declaring them clean or unclean.'59 Questa è la legge relativa alla macchia di lebbra sopra una veste di lana o di lino, sul tessuto o sul manufatto o su qualunque oggetto di pelle, per dichiararli mondi o immondi".
