NEW JERUSALEM	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 I am the man familiar with misery under the rod of his fury.	1 Eu sou o homem que conheceu a dor, sob a vara de seu furor.
2 He has led and guided me into darkness, not light.	2 Conduziu-me e me fez caminhar nas trevas e não na claridade.
3 Against none but me does he turn his hand, again and again, al day.	3 Ele não cessa de voltar a mão todos os dias contra mim.
4 He has wasted my flesh and skin away, has broken my bones.	4 Consumiu minha carne e minha pele, partiu meus ossos.
5 He has besieged me and made hardship a circlet round my head.	5 Em torno de mim acumulou veneno e dor.
6 He has forced me to dwel where al is dark, like those long-dead in their everlasting home.	6 Fez-me morar nas trevas como os mortos do tempo antigo.
7 He has walled me in so that I cannot escape; he has weighed me down with chains;	7 Cercou-me com muralhas sem saída, carregou-me de pesados grilhões.
8 even when I shout for help, he shuts out my prayer.	8 Não obstante meus gritos e apelos sufocou a minha prece!
9 He has closed my way with blocks of stone, he has obstructed my paths.	9 Fechou-me a vereda com pedras e obstruiu o meu caminho.
10 For me he is a lurking bear, a lion in hiding.	10 Foi ele para mim qual urso de emboscada, qual leão traiçoeiro.
11 Heading me off, he has torn me apart, leaving me shattered.	11 Desviou-me para me dilacerar, deixando-me no abandono.
12 He has bent his bow and used me as a target for his arrows.	12 Retesou o arco e me tomou para alvo de suas setas.
13 He has shot deep into me with shafts from his quiver.	13 Cravou em meus rins as flechas de sua aljava.
14 I have become a joke to al my own people, their refrain all day long.	14 Tornei-me escárnio do meu povo, objeto constante de suas canções.
15 He has given me my fil of bitterness, he has made me drunk with wormwood.	15 Saturou-me de amarguras, saciou-me de absinto.
16 He has broken my teeth with gravel, he has fed me on ashes.	16 Quebrou-me os dentes com cascalhos, mergulhou-me em cinzas.
17 I have been deprived of peace, I have forgotten what happiness is	17 A paz foi roubada de minha alma, nem sei mais o que é felicidade.
18 and thought, 'My lasting hope in Yahweh is lost.'	18 E eu penso: perdi minha força e minha esperança no Senhor.
19 Bring to mind my misery and anguish; it is wormwood and gall!	19 A lembrança de meus tormentos e minhas misérias é para mim absinto e veneno.
20 My heart dwel s on this continual y and sinks within me.	20 A pensar nisso sem cessar, minha alma desfalece dentro de mim.
21 This is what I shal keep in mind and so regain some hope:	21 Eis, porém, o que vou tomar a peito para recuperar a esperança.
22 Surely Yahweh's mercies are not over, his deeds of faithful love not exhausted;	22 É graças ao Senhor que não fomos aniquilados, porque não se esgotou sua piedade.
23 every morning they are renewed; great is his faithfulness!	23 Cada manhã ele se manifesta e grande é sua fidelidade.
24 'Yahweh is al I have,' I say to myself, 'and so I shal put my hope in him.'	24 Disse-me a alma: o Senhor é minha partilha, e assim nele confio.
25 Yahweh is good to those who trust him, to al who search for him.	25 O Senhor é bom para quem nele confia, para a alma que o procura.
26 It is good to wait in silence for Yahweh to save.	26 Bom é esperar em silêncio o socorro do Senhor.
27 It is good for someone to bear the yoke from a young age,	27 É bom para o homem carregar seu jugo na mocidade.
28 to sit in solitude and silence when it weighs heavy,	28 Permaneça só e em silêncio, quando Deus lho determinar!
29 to lay one's head in the dust -- maybe there is hope-	29 Leve sua boca ao pó; haverá, talvez, esperança?
30 to offer one's cheek to the striker, to have one's fil of disgrace!	30 Estenda a face a quem o fere, e se farte de opróbrios!
31 For the Lord will not reject anyone for ever.	31 Porque o Senhor não repele para sempre.
32 If he brings grief, he wil have pity out of the ful ness of his faithful love,	32 Após haver afligido, ele tem piedade, porque é grande sua misericórdia.
33 for it is not for his own pleasure that he torments and grieves the human race.	33 Não lhe alegra o coração humilhar e afligir os homens.
34 When al the prisoners in a country are crushed underfoot,	34 Calcar aos pés todos os cativos da terra;
35 when human rights are overridden in defiance of the Most High,	35 violar o direito de um homem à face do Altíssimo;
36 when someone is cheated of justice, does not the Lord see it?	36 lesar os direitos de outros... Não vê tudo isso o Senhor?
37 Who has only to speak and it is so done? Who commands, if not the Lord?	37 De quem se executa a ordem, sem que Deus a ordene?
38 From where, if not from the mouth of the Most High, do evil and good come?	38 Não é da boca do Altíssimo que procedem males e bens?
39 Why then should anyone complain? Better to be bold against one's sins.	39 De que pode o homem em vida queixar-se? Que cada um se queixe de seus pecados.
40 Let us examine our path, let us ponder it and return to Yahweh.	40 Examinemos, escrutemos o nosso proceder, e voltemos para o Senhor.
41 Let us raise our hearts and hands to God in heaven.	41 Elevemos os corações, tanto quanto as mãos, para Deus lá nos céus.
42 We are the ones who have sinned, who have rebel ed, and you have not forgiven.	42 Pecamos, recalcitramos, e não nos perdoastes.
43 You have enveloped us in anger, pursuing us, slaughtering without pity.	43 Cobristes-vos de cólera para nos perseguir. Matastes sem piedade.
44 You have wrapped yourself in a cloud too thick for prayer to pierce.	44 Numa nuvem vos envolvestes para impedir que a prece a atravessasse.
45 You have reduced us to rubbish and refuse among the nations.	45 E de nós fizestes raspas, refugo das nações.
46 Our enemies open their mouths in chorus against us.	46 Contra nós abrem a boca todos os nossos inimigos.
47 Terror and pitfal have been our lot, ravage and ruin.	47 Fosso e terror - é o nosso quinhão, com ruínas e desolação.
48 My eyes dissolve in torrents of tears at the ruin of my beloved people.	48 Rios de lágrimas correm-me dos olhos, por causa da ruína da filha de meu povo.
49 My eyes wil weep ceaselessly, without relief,	49 Não cessam meus olhos de chorar, porque não cessa {a desgraça},
50 until Yahweh looks down and sees from heaven.	50 até que do alto dos céus o Senhor desça seu olhar.
51 My eyes have grown sore over al the daughters of my city.	51 Minha alma se amargura, ao ver todas as filhas da minha cidade.
52 Unprovoked, my enemies hunted me down like a bird.	52 Caçaram-me como a um pardal os que, sem razão, me odeiam.
53 They shut me final y in a pit, they closed me in with a stone.	53 Quiseram precipitar-me no fosso rolando uma pedra sobre mim.
54 The waters rose over my head; I thought, 'I am lost!'	54 Acima de mim subiam as águas: Estou perdido!, exclamei.
55 Yahweh, I called on your name from the deep pit.	55 Invoquei, Senhor, o vosso nome do profundo fosso.
56 You heard my voice, do not close your ear to my prayer, to my cry.	56 Ouvistes-me gritar: Não aparteis do meu chamado o vosso ouvido.
57 You are near when I cal to you. You said, 'Do not be afraid!'	57 E vós viestes no dia em que vos invoquei e dissestes: Não tenhas medo!
58 Lord, you defended my cause, you have redeemed my life.	58 Defendestes, Senhor, a minha causa, e minha vida resgatastes.
59 Yahweh, you have seen the wrong done to me, grant me redress.	59 Vistes, Senhor, o mal que me fizeram: fazei-me justiça.
60 You have seen their vindictiveness, al their plots against me.	60 Vós vedes seus projetos vingativos e suas tramas contra mim.
61 You have heard their insults, Yahweh, al their plots against me,	61 Senhor, ouvistes suas injúrias e todos os seus conluios contra mim;
62 the whispering and murmuring of my enemies against me all day long.	62 As palavras de meus inimigos e o que sem cessar estão tramando contra mim.
63 Look, whether they sit or stand, I am their refrain.	63 Observai-os: sentados ou de pé, fazem de mim objeto de suas canções.
64 Yahweh, repay them as their deeds deserve.	64 Dai-lhes, Senhor, a paga, o que merece o seu proceder.
65 Lay hardness of heart as your curse on them.	65 Cegai-lhes o coração; feri-os com a vossa maldição;
66 Angrily pursue them, root them out from under your heavens!	66 persegui-os com vossa cólera, e exterminai-os do nosso universo, Senhor!
