NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 I am the man familiar with misery under the rod of his fury.	1 Io sono l'uomo che ha visto la miseria sotto la verga del suo furore.
2 He has led and guided me into darkness, not light.	2 Mi ha guidato e fatto camminare in tenebra e non in luce.
3 Against none but me does he turn his hand, again and again, al day.	3 Sì, contro di me volge e rivolge la sua mano tutto il giorno.
4 He has wasted my flesh and skin away, has broken my bones.	4 Ha disfatto la mia carne e la mia pelle, ha spezzato le mie ossa.
5 He has besieged me and made hardship a circlet round my head.	5 Ha fabbricato contro di me e mi ha avvolto di veleno e di amarezza.
6 He has forced me to dwel where al is dark, like those long-dead in their everlasting home.	6 In luoghi tenebrosi m'ha fatto abitare come i morti da tempo.
7 He has walled me in so that I cannot escape; he has weighed me down with chains;	7 Ha innalzato un muro attorno a me: non posso uscire, ha appesantito la mia catena.
8 even when I shout for help, he shuts out my prayer.	8 Anche se gridassi e implorassi, egli soffoca la mia preghiera.

15 He has given me my fil of bitterness, he has made me drunk with wormwood.	15 Mi ha saziato con erbe amare e dissetato con assenzio.
16 He has broken my teeth with gravel, he has fed me on ashes.	16 Mi ha spezzato i denti nella ghiaia, m'ha fatto cadere nella polvere.
17 I have been deprived of peace, I have forgotten what happiness is	17 E si è allontanata dalla pace l'anima mia, ho dimenticato la felicità.
18 and thought, 'My lasting hope in Yahweh is lost.'	18 Ho detto: "E' svanito il mio vigore e la mia speranza nel Signore!".
19 Bring to mind my misery and anguish; it is wormwood and gall!	19 Ricordare la mia miseria e il mio vagare è assenzio e veleno!
20 My heart dwel s on this continual y and sinks within me.	20 Ricorda, ricorda e si piega su se stessa l'anima mia.
21 This is what I shal keep in mind and so regain some hope:	21 Questo io richiamo in cuor mio, perché io possa sperare.
22 Surely Yahweh's mercies are not over, his deeds of faithful love not exhausted;	22 Le grazie del Signore non sono finite, non sono esauriti i suoi atti di compassione.
23 every morning they are renewed; great is his faithfulness!	23 Si rinnovano ogni mattino: grande è la sua fedeltà!
24 'Yahweh is al I have,' I say to myself, 'and so I shal put my hope in him.'	24 "Mia parte è il Signore, dice la mia anima, per questo spero in lui".
25 Yahweh is good to those who trust him, to al who search for him.	25 Buono è il Signore per chi spera in lui, per l'anima che lo cerca.
26 It is good to wait in silence for Yahweh to save.	26 Buona cosa è attendere, e in silenzio, la salvezza del Signore.
27 It is good for someone to bear the yoke from a young age,	27 Buona cosa è per l'uomo, portare un giogo nella sua giovinezza.
28 to sit in solitude and silence when it weighs heavy,	28 Sieda in disparte e taccia, quando egli l'avrà posto su di lui.
29 to lay one's head in the dust -- maybe there is hope-	29 Metta nella polvere la sua bocca: forse vi è ancora speranza!

31 For the Lord will not reject anyone for ever.	31 Perché il Signore non allontana per sempre i figli dell'uomo.
32 If he brings grief, he wil have pity out of the ful ness of his faithful love,	32 Perché, se affligge, ha pietà, secondo la grandezza delle sue grazie.
33 for it is not for his own pleasure that he torments and grieves the human race.	33 Perché non di buon cuore umilia e affligge i figli dell'uomo.
34 When al the prisoners in a country are crushed underfoot,	34 Quando uno calpesta sotto i suoi piedi tutti i prigionieri di un paese,
35 when human rights are overridden in defiance of the Most High,	35 quando uno perverte il diritto d'un uomo, dinanzi al volto dell'Altissimo,
36 when someone is cheated of justice, does not the Lord see it?	36 quando uno fa torto a un uomo nel suo processo, il Signore non vede?
37 Who has only to speak and it is so done? Who commands, if not the Lord?	37 Chi disse una cosa e fu fatta? Non l'ha forse comandata il Signore?
38 From where, if not from the mouth of the Most High, do evil and good come?	38 Dalla bocca dell'Altissimo non procedono i mali e i beni?
39 Why then should anyone complain? Better to be bold against one's sins.	39 Perché si lamenta l'uomo, l'uomo che vive malgrado i suoi peccati?
40 Let us examine our path, let us ponder it and return to Yahweh.	40 Investighiamo le nostre vie e scrutiamole, torniamo al Signore!
41 Let us raise our hearts and hands to God in heaven.	41 Eleviamo il nostro cuore sulle mani al Dio che è nei cieli!
42 We are the ones who have sinned, who have rebel ed, and you have not forgiven.	42 Noi abbiamo peccato, siamo stati ribelli e tu non hai perdonato.
43 You have enveloped us in anger, pursuing us, slaughtering without pity.	43 Ti sei avvolto di furore e ci hai inseguito, hai ucciso: non hai avuto pietà!
44 You have wrapped yourself in a cloud too thick for prayer to pierce.	44 Ti sei avvolto in una nube, perché non passasse la preghiera.
45 You have reduced us to rubbish and refuse among the nations.	45 Spazzatura e rifiuto ci hai resi in mezzo ai popoli.
46 Our enemies open their mouths in chorus against us.	46 Hanno spalancato contro di noi la loro bocca tutti i nostri nemici.
47 Terror and pitfal have been our lot, ravage and ruin.	47 Terrore e fossa sono stati per noi, sterminio e rovina.
48 My eyes dissolve in torrents of tears at the ruin of my beloved people.	48 Il mio occhio gronda rivi di lacrime per la rovina della figlia del mio popolo.
49 My eyes wil weep ceaselessly, without relief,	49 L'occhio mio si discioglie e non ha sosta: non ha sollievo,
50 until Yahweh looks down and sees from heaven.	50 fino a quando il Signore guardi e veda dai cieli.
51 My eyes have grown sore over al the daughters of my city.	51 L'occhio mio tormenta la mia anima alla vista delle figlie della mia città.
52 Unprovoked, my enemies hunted me down like a bird.	52 Mi hanno dato la caccia come a un uccello, quelli che mi odiano senza motivo.

57 You are near when I cal to you. You said, 'Do not be afraid!'	57 Ti sei accostato, quando ti ho chiamato; mi hai detto: "Non temere!".
58 Lord, you defended my cause, you have redeemed my life.	58 Hai difeso, Signore, la mia causa, hai riscattato la mia vita.
59 Yahweh, you have seen the wrong done to me, grant me redress.	59 Hai visto, Signore, la mia umiliazione: difendi il mio diritto!
60 You have seen their vindictiveness, al their plots against me.	60 Hai visto tutte le loro vendette, tutti i loro complotti contro di me.
61 You have heard their insults, Yahweh, al their plots against me,	61 Hai udito i loro insulti, Signore, tutti i loro complotti contro di me,
62 the whispering and murmuring of my enemies against me all day long.	62 le labbra dei miei aggressori e i loro disegni contro di me tutto il giorno.
63 Look, whether they sit or stand, I am their refrain.	63 Sèggano o si alzino, tu osservali: io sono la loro canzone!
64 Yahweh, repay them as their deeds deserve.	64 Rendi loro la ricompensa, Signore, secondo l'opera delle loro mani.
65 Lay hardness of heart as your curse on them.	65 Da' loro durezza di cuore, la tua maledizione su di loro.
66 Angrily pursue them, root them out from under your heavens!	66 Perséguitali nell'ira e stèrminali da sotto i tuoi cieli, o Signore!
