NEW JERUSALEMVULGATA
1 Bless Yahweh, my soul, Yahweh, my God, how great you are! Clothed in majesty and splendour,1 Alleluja. Confitemini Domino, et invocate nomen ejus ;
annuntiate inter gentes opera ejus.
2 wearing the light as a robe! You stretch out the heavens like a tent,2 Cantate ei, et psallite ei ;
narrate omnia mirabilia ejus.
3 build your palace on the waters above, making the clouds your chariot, gliding on the wings of thewind,3 Laudamini in nomine sancto ejus ;
lætetur cor quærentium Dominum.
4 appointing the winds your messengers, flames of fire your servants.4 Quærite Dominum, et confirmamini ;
quærite faciem ejus semper.
5 You fixed the earth on its foundations, for ever and ever it shal not be shaken;5 Mementote mirabilium ejus quæ fecit ;
prodigia ejus, et judicia oris ejus :
6 you covered it with the deep like a garment, the waters overtopping the mountains.6 semen Abraham servi ejus ;
filii Jacob electi ejus.
7 At your reproof the waters fled, at the voice of your thunder they sped away,7 Ipse Dominus Deus noster ;
in universa terra judicia ejus.
8 flowing over mountains, down val eys, to the place you had fixed for them;8 Memor fuit in sæculum testamenti sui ;
verbi quod mandavit in mille generationes :
9 you made a limit they were not to cross, they were not to return and cover the earth.9 quod disposuit ad Abraham,
et juramenti sui ad Isaac :
10 In the ravines you opened up springs, running down between the mountains,10 et statuit illud Jacob in præceptum,
et Israël in testamentum æternum,
11 supplying water for al the wild beasts; the wild asses quench their thirst,11 dicens : Tibi dabo terram Chanaan,
funiculum hæreditatis vestræ :
12 on their banks the birds of the air make their nests, they sing among the leaves.12 cum essent numero brevi,
paucissimi, et incolæ ejus.
13 From your high hal s you water the mountains, satisfying the earth with the fruit of your works:13 Et pertransierunt de gente in gentem,
et de regno ad populum alterum.
14 for cattle you make the grass grow, and for people the plants they need, to bring forth food from theearth,14 Non reliquit hominem nocere eis :
et corripuit pro eis reges.
15 and wine to cheer people's hearts, oil to make their faces glow, food to make them sturdy of heart.15 Nolite tangere christos meos,
et in prophetis meis nolite malignari.
16 The trees of Yahweh drink their fill, the cedars of Lebanon which he sowed;16 Et vocavit famem super terram,
et omne firmamentum panis contrivit.
17 there the birds build their nests, on the highest branches the stork makes its home;17 Misit ante eos virum :
in servum venumdatus est, Joseph.
18 for the wild goats there are the mountains, in the crags the coneys find refuge.18 Humiliaverunt in compedibus pedes ejus ;
ferrum pertransiit animam ejus :
19 He made the moon to mark the seasons, the sun knows when to set.19 donec veniret verbum ejus.
Eloquium Domini inflammavit eum.
20 You bring on darkness, and night fal s, when al the forest beasts roam around;20 Misit rex, et solvit eum ;
princeps populorum, et dimisit eum.
21 young lions roar for their prey, asking God for their food.21 Constituit eum dominum domus suæ,
et principem omnis possessionis suæ :
22 The sun rises and away they steal, back to their lairs to lie down,22 ut erudiret principes ejus sicut semetipsum,
et senes ejus prudentiam doceret.
23 and man goes out to work, to labour til evening falls.23 Et intravit Israël in Ægyptum,
et Jacob accola fuit in terra Cham.
24 How countless are your works, Yahweh, al of them made so wisely! The earth is ful of yourcreatures.24 Et auxit populum suum vehementer,
et firmavit eum super inimicos ejus.
25 Then there is the sea, with its vast expanses teeming with countless creatures, creatures both greatand smal ;25 Convertit cor eorum, ut odirent populum ejus,
et dolum facerent in servos ejus.
26 there ships pass to and fro, and Leviathan whom you made to sport with.26 Misit Moysen servum suum ;
Aaron quem elegit ipsum.
27 They al depend upon you, to feed them when they need it.27 Posuit in eis verba signorum suorum,
et prodigiorum in terra Cham.
28 You provide the food they gather, your open hand gives them their fil .28 Misit tenebras, et obscuravit ;
et non exacerbavit sermones suos.
29 Turn away your face and they panic; take back their breath and they die and revert to dust.29 Convertit aquas eorum in sanguinem,
et occidit pisces eorum.
30 Send out your breath and life begins; you renew the face of the earth.30 Edidit terra eorum ranas
in penetralibus regum ipsorum.
31 Glory to Yahweh for ever! May Yahweh find joy in his creatures!31 Dixit, et venit c?nomyia et ciniphes
in omnibus finibus eorum.
32 At his glance the earth trembles, at his touch the mountains pour forth smoke.32 Posuit pluvias eorum grandinem :
ignem comburentem in terra ipsorum.
33 I shal sing to Yahweh al my life, make music for my God as long as I live.33 Et percussit vineas eorum, et ficulneas eorum,
et contrivit lignum finium eorum.
34 May my musings be pleasing to him, for Yahweh gives me joy.34 Dixit, et venit locusta,
et bruchus cujus non erat numerus :
35 May sinners vanish from the earth, and the wicked exist no more! Bless Yahweh, my soul.35 et comedit omne f?num in terra eorum,
et comedit omnem fructum terræ eorum.
36 Et percussit omne primogenitum in terra eorum,
primitias omnis laboris eorum.
37 Et eduxit eos cum argento et auro,
et non erat in tribubus eorum infirmus.
38 Lætata est Ægyptus in profectione eorum,
quia incubuit timor eorum super eos.
39 Expandit nubem in protectionem eorum,
et ignem ut luceret eis per noctem.
40 Petierunt, et venit coturnix,
et pane cæli saturavit eos.
41 Dirupit petram, et fluxerunt aquæ :
abierunt in sicco flumina.
42 Quoniam memor fuit verbi sancti sui,
quod habuit ad Abraham puerum suum.
43 Et eduxit populum suum in exsultatione,
et electos suos in lætitia.
44 Et dedit illis regiones gentium,
et labores populorum possederunt :
45 ut custodiant justificationes ejus,
et legem ejus requirant.
