NEW JERUSALEMNOVA VULGATA
1 Bless Yahweh, my soul, Yahweh, my God, how great you are! Clothed in majesty and splendour,1 Benedic, anima mea, Domino.
Domine Deus meus, magnificatus es vehementer!
Maiestatem et decorem induisti,
2 wearing the light as a robe! You stretch out the heavens like a tent,2 amictus lumine sicut vestimento.
Extendens caelum sicut velum,
3 build your palace on the waters above, making the clouds your chariot, gliding on the wings of thewind,3 qui exstruis in aquis cenacula tua.
Qui ponis nubem ascensum tuum,
qui ambulas super pennas ventorum.
4 appointing the winds your messengers, flames of fire your servants.4 Qui facis angelos tuos spiritus
et ministros tuos ignem urentem.
5 You fixed the earth on its foundations, for ever and ever it shal not be shaken;5 Qui fundasti terram super stabilitatem suam,
non inclinabitur in saeculum saeculi.
6 you covered it with the deep like a garment, the waters overtopping the mountains.6 Abyssus sicut vestimentum operuit eam,
super montes stabant aquae.
7 At your reproof the waters fled, at the voice of your thunder they sped away,7 Ab increpatione tua fugiunt,
a voce tonitrui tui formidant.
8 flowing over mountains, down val eys, to the place you had fixed for them;8 Ascendunt in montes et descendunt in valles,
in locum, quem statuisti eis.
9 you made a limit they were not to cross, they were not to return and cover the earth.9 Terminum posuisti, quem non transgredientur,
neque convertentur operire terram.
10 In the ravines you opened up springs, running down between the mountains,10 Qui emittis fontes in torrentes;
inter medium montium pertransibunt,
11 supplying water for al the wild beasts; the wild asses quench their thirst,11 potabunt omnes bestias agri,
exstinguent onagri sitim suam.
12 on their banks the birds of the air make their nests, they sing among the leaves.12 Super ea volucres caeli habitabunt,
de medio ramorum dabunt voces.
13 From your high hal s you water the mountains, satisfying the earth with the fruit of your works:13 Rigas montes de cenaculis tuis,
de fructu operum tuorum satias terram.
14 for cattle you make the grass grow, and for people the plants they need, to bring forth food from theearth,14 Producis fenum iumentis
et herbam servituti hominum,
educens panem de terra
15 and wine to cheer people's hearts, oil to make their faces glow, food to make them sturdy of heart.15 et vinum, quod laetificat cor hominis;
exhilarans faciem in oleo,
panis autem cor hominis confirmat.
16 The trees of Yahweh drink their fill, the cedars of Lebanon which he sowed;16 Saturabuntur ligna Domini
et cedri Libani, quas plantavit.
17 there the birds build their nests, on the highest branches the stork makes its home;17 Illic passeres nidificabunt,
erodii domus in vertice earum.
18 for the wild goats there are the mountains, in the crags the coneys find refuge.18 Montes excelsi cervis,
petrae refugium hyracibus.
19 He made the moon to mark the seasons, the sun knows when to set.19 Fecit lunam ad tempora signanda,
sol cognovit occasum suum.
20 You bring on darkness, and night fal s, when al the forest beasts roam around;20 Posuisti tenebras, et facta est nox:
in ipsa reptabunt omnes bestiae silvae,
21 young lions roar for their prey, asking God for their food.21 catuli leonum rugientes, ut rapiant
et quaerant a Deo escam sibi.
22 The sun rises and away they steal, back to their lairs to lie down,22 Oritur sol, et congregantur
et in cubilibus suis recumbunt.
23 and man goes out to work, to labour til evening falls.23 Exit homo ad opus suum
et ad operationem suam usque ad vesperum.
24 How countless are your works, Yahweh, al of them made so wisely! The earth is ful of yourcreatures.24 Quam multiplicata sunt opera tua, Domine!
Omnia in sapientia fecisti,
impleta est terra creatura tua.
25 Then there is the sea, with its vast expanses teeming with countless creatures, creatures both greatand smal ;25 Hoc mare magnum et spatiosum et latum:
illic reptilia, quorum non est numerus,
animalia pusilla cum magnis;
26 there ships pass to and fro, and Leviathan whom you made to sport with.26 illic naves pertransibunt,
Leviathan, quem formasti ad ludendum cum eo.
27 They al depend upon you, to feed them when they need it.27 Omnia a te exspectant,
ut des illis escam in tempore suo.
28 You provide the food they gather, your open hand gives them their fil .28 Dante te illis, colligent,
aperiente te manum tuam, implebuntur bonis.
29 Turn away your face and they panic; take back their breath and they die and revert to dust.29 Avertente autem te faciem, turbabuntur;
auferes spiritum eorum, et deficient
et in pulverem suum revertentur.
30 Send out your breath and life begins; you renew the face of the earth.30 Emittes spiritum tuum, et creabuntur,
et renovabis faciem terrae.
31 Glory to Yahweh for ever! May Yahweh find joy in his creatures!31 Sit gloria Domini in saeculum;
laetetur Dominus in operibus suis.
32 At his glance the earth trembles, at his touch the mountains pour forth smoke.32 Qui respicit terram et facit eam tremere,
qui tangit montes, et fumigant.
33 I shal sing to Yahweh al my life, make music for my God as long as I live.33 Cantabo Domino in vita mea,
psallam Deo meo quamdiu sum.
34 May my musings be pleasing to him, for Yahweh gives me joy.34 Iucundum sit ei eloquium meum,
ego vero delectabor in Domino.
35 May sinners vanish from the earth, and the wicked exist no more! Bless Yahweh, my soul.35 Deficiant peccatores a terra
et iniqui, ita ut non sint.
Benedic, anima mea, Domino.
