1 Bless Yahweh, my soul, Yahweh, my God, how great you are! Clothed in majesty and splendour,	1 - Alleluia! Celebrate il Signore e invocate il suo nome, annunziate tra le Genti le opere sue.
2 wearing the light as a robe! You stretch out the heavens like a tent,	2 Cantate a lui e a lui inneggiate, raccontate tutte le sue meraviglie.
3 build your palace on the waters above, making the clouds your chariot, gliding on the wings of thewind,	3 Gloriatevi del nome santo di lui, si rallegri il cuore di quei che cercano il Signore.
4 appointing the winds your messengers, flames of fire your servants.	4 Cercate il Signore e confortatevi, cercate la faccia di lui sempre.
5 You fixed the earth on its foundations, for ever and ever it shal not be shaken;	5 Ricordate le meraviglie ch'egli fece, i suoi prodigi e i giudizi della sua bocca,
6 you covered it with the deep like a garment, the waters overtopping the mountains.	6 [voi,] progenie di Abramo, servi di lui, figli di Giacobbe, suoi eletti.
7 At your reproof the waters fled, at the voice of your thunder they sped away,	7 Egli, il Signore è nostro Dio, su tutta la terra [si stendono] i suoi giudizi.
8 flowing over mountains, down val eys, to the place you had fixed for them;	8 E' rammenta in eterno il suo patto, la parola ch'egli sancì per mille generazioni,
9 you made a limit they were not to cross, they were not to return and cover the earth.	9 [l'accordo] che stabilì con Abramoe il suo giuramento ad Isacco.
10 In the ravines you opened up springs, running down between the mountains,	10 E lo confermò a Giacobbe come legge e ad Israele come patto eterno,
11 supplying water for al the wild beasts; the wild asses quench their thirst,	11 dicendo: «A te darò la terra di Canaan, [qual] porzione del vostro retaggio».
12 on their banks the birds of the air make their nests, they sing among the leaves.	12 Quand'erano in piccol numero, pochissimi e stranieri in quella [regione],
13 From your high hal s you water the mountains, satisfying the earth with the fruit of your works:	13 e passavan di popolo in popoloe da un regno ad un'altra nazione,
14 for cattle you make the grass grow, and for people the plants they need, to bring forth food from theearth,	14 non lasciò che alcuno li maltrattasse, e punì de' re a cagion loro:
15 and wine to cheer people's hearts, oil to make their faces glow, food to make them sturdy of heart.	15 «Non toccate i miei consacrati, ai miei profeti non fate del male!».
16 The trees of Yahweh drink their fill, the cedars of Lebanon which he sowed;	16 E chiamò la fame sul paese, e ogni sostentamento di pane infranse.
17 there the birds build their nests, on the highest branches the stork makes its home;	17 Mandò innanzi a loro un uomo [in Egitto]: per schiavo fu venduto Giuseppe.
18 for the wild goats there are the mountains, in the crags the coneys find refuge.	18 Umiliarono ne' ceppi i suoi piedi, ne' ferri fu stretta l'anima sua;
19 He made the moon to mark the seasons, the sun knows when to set.	19 sino a che s'avverò la sua parola, [e] l'oracolo del Signore la comprovò.
20 You bring on darkness, and night fal s, when al the forest beasts roam around;	20 Il re mandò [allora] a scioglierlo, il sovrano de' popoli a liberarlo.
21 young lions roar for their prey, asking God for their food.	21 Lo costituì signore della sua casa, e soprintendente di tutti i suoi possessi,
22 The sun rises and away they steal, back to their lairs to lie down,	22 perchè ammaestrasse i suoi principi secondo il suo senno, e ai suoi anziani insegnasse la prudenza.
23 and man goes out to work, to labour til evening falls.	23 E venne Israele in Egittoe Giacobbe emigrò nella terra di Cam.
24 How countless are your works, Yahweh, al of them made so wisely! The earth is ful of yourcreatures.	24 E [il Signore] moltiplicò grandemente il suo popolo, e lo fece più forte de' suoi nemici.
25 Then there is the sea, with its vast expanses teeming with countless creatures, creatures both greatand smal ;	25 Mutò il cuor di costoro, sicchè odiassero il suo popolo e usassero perfidia contro i suoi servi.
26 there ships pass to and fro, and Leviathan whom you made to sport with.	26 Mandò Mosè, suo servo, [e] Aronne, da sè eletto.
27 They al depend upon you, to feed them when they need it.	27 Operò con la parola loro i suoi portenti e i prodigi nella terra di Cam.
28 You provide the food they gather, your open hand gives them their fil .	28 Mandò le tenebre e fece buio, e non inasprì i suoi detti.
29 Turn away your face and they panic; take back their breath and they die and revert to dust.	29 Mutò le acque loro in sangue, e uccise i loro pesci.
30 Send out your breath and life begins; you renew the face of the earth.	30 La lor terra dette fuori ranocchi[fin] negli appartamenti de' loro re.
31 Glory to Yahweh for ever! May Yahweh find joy in his creatures!	31 Comandò e vennero i tafànie le zanzare per tutto il loro paese.
32 At his glance the earth trembles, at his touch the mountains pour forth smoke.	32 Per lor pioggia mandò la grandine, fuoco ardente sulla lor terra.
33 I shal sing to Yahweh al my life, make music for my God as long as I live.	33 E colpì le lor vigne e i fichi loroe infranse gli alberi del loro paese.
34 May my musings be pleasing to him, for Yahweh gives me joy.	34 Comandò e venner locuste e cavallette senza numero,
35 May sinners vanish from the earth, and the wicked exist no more! Bless Yahweh, my soul.	35 e divorarono tutta l'erba nella loro regione e divorarono tutto il frutto della terra loro.
	36 E colpì ogni primogenito nella loro regione, le primizie d'ogni lor vigore.
	37 E [i suoi] li trasse fuori carichi d'oro e d'argento, nè c'era nelle loro tribù nessun languente.
	38 Si rallegrò l'Egitto per la loro partenza, perché il timore di loro era piombato sovr'essi.
	39 Stese una nuvola a loro schermo e [accese] un fuoco che gl'illuminasse la notte.
	40 Chiesero, e venner le quaglie, e con pane del cielo li satollò.
	41 Spaccò la rupe e sgorgaron le acque, corsero nel deserto [a mo' di] fiumi.
	42 Perchè si ricordò della sua santa parola che aveva dato ad Abramo suo servo.
	43 E trasse fuori il suo popolo nell'esultanza e i suoi eletti nell'allegrezza.
	44 E diede loro le regioni delle genti, e le fatiche de' popoli essi ereditarono;
	45 perchè osservassero i suoi precetti e la sua legge ricercassero. [Alleluia!]
