NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 Bless Yahweh, my soul, Yahweh, my God, how great you are! Clothed in majesty and splendour,	1 Benedici il Signore, anima mia. Signore, mio Dio, quanto sei grande! Splendore e maestà è il tuo vestito,
2 wearing the light as a robe! You stretch out the heavens like a tent,	2 avvolto di luce come di un manto. Egli fissa i cieli come una tenda,
3 build your palace on the waters above, making the clouds your chariot, gliding on the wings of thewind,	3 costruisce sulle acque le sue stanze; fa delle nubi il suo carro, cammina sulle ali del vento;
4 appointing the winds your messengers, flames of fire your servants.	4 fa dei venti i suoi messaggeri, delle fiamme guizzanti i suoi ministri.
5 You fixed the earth on its foundations, for ever and ever it shal not be shaken;	5 Fondò la terra sui suoi basamenti, mai vacillerà, in eterno.
6 you covered it with the deep like a garment, the waters overtopping the mountains.	6 L'abisso l'avvolgeva come un manto; le acque coprivano le montagne.
7 At your reproof the waters fled, at the voice of your thunder they sped away,	7 Alla tua minaccia fuggirono, al fragore della tua ira s'avviarono precipitose
8 flowing over mountains, down val eys, to the place you had fixed for them;	8 salendo per monti, discendendo per valli verso il luogo che tu loro assegnasti.
9 you made a limit they were not to cross, they were not to return and cover the earth.	9 Tracciasti ad esse un limite da non oltrepassare, sì che non tornassero a ricoprire la terra.
10 In the ravines you opened up springs, running down between the mountains,	10 Tu facesti scaturire sorgenti nelle valli; esse scorrono fra i monti;
11 supplying water for al the wild beasts; the wild asses quench their thirst,	11 procurano da bere a tutte le bestie del campo; gli ònagri vi estinguono la loro sete.
12 on their banks the birds of the air make their nests, they sing among the leaves.	12 Lungo il loro corso vivono gli uccelli del cielo, di mezzo alle fronde fanno sentire la loro voce.
13 From your high hal s you water the mountains, satisfying the earth with the fruit of your works:	13 Dalle sue stanze superiori dà acqua alle montagne; con l'umidità dei tuoi serbatoi si sazia la terra.
14 for cattle you make the grass grow, and for people the plants they need, to bring forth food from theearth,	14 Fai crescere il fieno per il bestiame, l'erba per la servitù dell'uomo perché tragga dal suolo il suo cibo:
15 and wine to cheer people's hearts, oil to make their faces glow, food to make them sturdy of heart.	15 il vino, che allieta il cuore dell'uomo, l'olio, che fa brillare il suo volto, il pane, che sostiene il suo vigore.
16 The trees of Yahweh drink their fill, the cedars of Lebanon which he sowed;	16 Si saziano le piante del Signore, i cedri del Libano che egli piantò.
17 there the birds build their nests, on the highest branches the stork makes its home;	17 Là gli uccelli fanno il loro nido e la cicogna sui cipressi ha la sua casa.
18 for the wild goats there are the mountains, in the crags the coneys find refuge.	18 Le alte montagne sono per i camosci; le rocce, un rifugio per gli iràci.
19 He made the moon to mark the seasons, the sun knows when to set.	19 Fece la luna per segnare le stagioni, il sole che conosce il suo tramonto.
20 You bring on darkness, and night fal s, when al the forest beasts roam around;	20 Tu poni le tenebre perché segua la notte, in essa vagolano tutte le fiere della selva.
21 young lions roar for their prey, asking God for their food.	21 Ruggiscono i leoncelli in cerca di preda, chiedono a Dio il loro cibo.
22 The sun rises and away they steal, back to their lairs to lie down,	22 Fai spuntare il sole ed essi si ritirano, e rimangono tranquilli nelle loro tane;
23 and man goes out to work, to labour til evening falls.	23 allora esce l'uomo per il suo lavoro, per la sua fatica fino alla sera.
24 How countless are your works, Yahweh, al of them made so wisely! The earth is ful of yourcreatures.	24 Quanto sono numerose le tue opere, Signore! Tutte le hai fatte con sapienza; è piena la terra delle tue creature.
25 Then there is the sea, with its vast expanses teeming with countless creatures, creatures both greatand smal ;	25 Ecco il mare, grande e spazioso; lì vi sono rettili senza numero: animali piccoli insieme ai grandi.
26 there ships pass to and fro, and Leviathan whom you made to sport with.	26 Lo percorrono le navi e il Leviatàn che per trastullarsi tu hai plasmato.
27 They al depend upon you, to feed them when they need it.	27 Tutti da te aspettano che dia loro il cibo a tempo opportuno.
28 You provide the food they gather, your open hand gives them their fil .	28 Tu lo provvedi ed essi lo raccolgono; apri la tua mano e si saziano di beni.
29 Turn away your face and they panic; take back their breath and they die and revert to dust.	29 Copri il tuo volto ed essi vengono meno; togli il loro spirito ed essi muoiono, ritornando alla loro polvere.
30 Send out your breath and life begins; you renew the face of the earth.	30 Mandi il tuo spirito ed essi sono creati, e rinnovi così la faccia della terra.
31 Glory to Yahweh for ever! May Yahweh find joy in his creatures!	31 La gloria del Signore duri per sempre; s'allieti il Signore per le sue opere.
32 At his glance the earth trembles, at his touch the mountains pour forth smoke.	32 Egli guarda la terra e questa sussulta; tocca i monti e questi fumano.
33 I shal sing to Yahweh al my life, make music for my God as long as I live.	33 Inneggerò al Signore finché avrò vita, canterò al mio Dio finché dura la mia esistenza.
34 May my musings be pleasing to him, for Yahweh gives me joy.	34 Giunga a lui gradita la mia meditazione; nel Signore sarà la mia gioia.
35 May sinners vanish from the earth, and the wicked exist no more! Bless Yahweh, my soul.	35 Spariscano dalla terra i peccatori, e non ci siano più gli empi. Benedici il Signore, anima mia. Alleluia.
