NEW JERUSALEMNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
Bless Yahweh, my soul, Yahweh, my God, how great you are! Clothed in majesty and splendour,1 Bless the LORD, my soul! LORD, my God, you are great indeed! You are clothed with majesty and glory,
wearing the light as a robe! You stretch out the heavens like a tent,2 robed in light as with a cloak. You spread out the heavens like a tent;
build your palace on the waters above, making the clouds your chariot, gliding on the wings of thewind,3 you raised your palace upon the waters. You make the clouds your chariot; you travel on the wings of the wind.
appointing the winds your messengers, flames of fire your servants.4 You make the winds your messengers; flaming fire, your ministers.
You fixed the earth on its foundations, for ever and ever it shal not be shaken;5 You fixed the earth on its foundation, never to be moved.
you covered it with the deep like a garment, the waters overtopping the mountains.6 The ocean covered it like a garment; above the mountains stood the waters.
At your reproof the waters fled, at the voice of your thunder they sped away,7 At your roar they took flight; at the sound of your thunder they fled.
flowing over mountains, down val eys, to the place you had fixed for them;8 They rushed up the mountains, down the valleys to the place you had fixed for them.
you made a limit they were not to cross, they were not to return and cover the earth.9 You set a limit they cannot pass; never again will they cover the earth.
In the ravines you opened up springs, running down between the mountains,10 You made springs flow into channels that wind among the mountains.
supplying water for al the wild beasts; the wild asses quench their thirst,11 They give drink to every beast of the field; here wild asses quench their thirst.
on their banks the birds of the air make their nests, they sing among the leaves.12 Beside them the birds of heaven nest; among the branches they sing.
From your high hal s you water the mountains, satisfying the earth with the fruit of your works:13 You water the mountains from your palace; by your labor the earth abounds.
for cattle you make the grass grow, and for people the plants they need, to bring forth food from theearth,14 You raise grass for the cattle and plants for our beasts of burden. You bring bread from the earth,
and wine to cheer people's hearts, oil to make their faces glow, food to make them sturdy of heart.15 and wine to gladden our hearts, Oil to make our faces gleam, food to build our strength.
The trees of Yahweh drink their fill, the cedars of Lebanon which he sowed;16 The trees of the LORD drink their fill, the cedars of Lebanon, which you planted.
there the birds build their nests, on the highest branches the stork makes its home;17 There the birds build their nests; junipers are the home of the stork.
for the wild goats there are the mountains, in the crags the coneys find refuge.18 The high mountains are for wild goats; the rocky cliffs, a refuge for badgers.
He made the moon to mark the seasons, the sun knows when to set.19 You made the moon to mark the seasons, the sun that knows the hour of its setting.
You bring on darkness, and night fal s, when al the forest beasts roam around;20 You bring darkness and night falls, then all the beasts of the forest roam abroad.
young lions roar for their prey, asking God for their food.21 Young lions roar for prey; they seek their food from God.
The sun rises and away they steal, back to their lairs to lie down,22 When the sun rises, they steal away and rest in their dens.
and man goes out to work, to labour til evening falls.23 People go forth to their work, to their labor till evening falls.
How countless are your works, Yahweh, al of them made so wisely! The earth is ful of yourcreatures.24 How varied are your works, LORD! In wisdom you have wrought them all; the earth is full of your creatures.
Then there is the sea, with its vast expanses teeming with countless creatures, creatures both greatand smal ;25 Look at the sea, great and wide! It teems with countless beings, living things both large and small.
there ships pass to and fro, and Leviathan whom you made to sport with.26 Here ships ply their course; here Leviathan, your creature, plays.
They al depend upon you, to feed them when they need it.27 All of these look to you to give them food in due time.
You provide the food they gather, your open hand gives them their fil .28 When you give to them, they gather; when you open your hand, they are well filled.
Turn away your face and they panic; take back their breath and they die and revert to dust.29 When you hide your face, they are lost. When you take away their breath, they perish and return to the dust from which they came.
Send out your breath and life begins; you renew the face of the earth.30 When you send forth your breath, they are created, and you renew the face of the earth.
Glory to Yahweh for ever! May Yahweh find joy in his creatures!31 May the glory of the LORD endure forever; may the LORD be glad in these works!
At his glance the earth trembles, at his touch the mountains pour forth smoke.32 If God glares at the earth, it trembles; if God touches the mountains, they smoke!
I shal sing to Yahweh al my life, make music for my God as long as I live.33 I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God while I live.
May my musings be pleasing to him, for Yahweh gives me joy.34 May my theme be pleasing to God; I will rejoice in the LORD.
May sinners vanish from the earth, and the wicked exist no more! Bless Yahweh, my soul.35 May sinners vanish from the earth, and the wicked be no more. Bless the LORD, my soul! Hallelujah!
