NEW JERUSALEMNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
[Prayer of someone afflicted, who in misfortune pours out sorrows before Yahweh] Yahweh, hear myprayer, let my cry for help reach you.1 The prayer of one afflicted and wasting away whose anguish is poured out before the LORD.
Do not turn away your face from me when I am in trouble; bend down and listen to me, when I cal ,be quick to answer me!2 LORD, hear my prayer; let my cry come to you.
For my days are vanishing like smoke, my bones burning like an oven;3 Do not hide your face from me now that I am in distress. Turn your ear to me; when I call, answer me quickly.
like grass struck by blight, my heart is withering, I forget to eat my meals.4 For my days vanish like smoke; my bones burn away as in a furnace.
From the effort of voicing my groans my bones stick out through my skin.5 I am withered, dried up like grass, too wasted to eat my food.
I am like a desert-owl in the wastes, a screech-owl among ruins,6 From my loud groaning I become just skin and bones.
I keep vigil and moan like a lone bird on a roof.7 I am like a desert owl, like an owl among the ruins.
Al day long my enemies taunt me, those who once praised me now use me as a curse.8 I lie awake and moan, like a lone sparrow on the roof.
Ashes are the food that I eat, my drink is mingled with tears,9 All day long my enemies taunt me; in their rage, they make my name a curse.
because of your fury and anger, since you have raised me up only to cast me away;10 I eat ashes like bread, mingle my drink with tears.
my days are like a fading shadow, I am withering up like grass.11 Because of your furious wrath, you lifted me up just to cast me down.
But you, Yahweh, are enthroned for ever, each generation in turn remembers you.12 My days are like a lengthening shadow; I wither like the grass.
Rise up, take pity on Zion! the time has come to have mercy on her, the moment has come;13 But you, LORD, are enthroned forever; your renown is for all generations.
for your servants love her very stones, are moved to pity by her dust.14 You will again show mercy to Zion; now is the time for pity; the appointed time has come.
Then wil the nations revere the name of Yahweh, and al the kings of the earth your glory;15 Its stones are dear to your servants; its dust moves them to pity.
when Yahweh builds Zion anew, he will be seen in his glory;16 The nations shall revere your name, LORD, all the kings of the earth, your glory,
he wil turn to hear the prayer of the destitute, and wil not treat their prayer with scorn.17 Once the LORD has rebuilt Zion and appeared in glory,
This shall be put on record for a future generation, and a people yet to be born shal praise God:18 Heeding the plea of the lowly, not scorning their prayer.
Yahweh has leaned down from the heights of his sanctuary, has looked down from heaven to earth,19 Let this be written for the next generation, for a people not yet born, that they may praise the LORD:
to listen to the sighing of the captive, and set free those condemned to death,20 "The LORD looked down from the holy heights, viewed the earth from heaven,
to proclaim the name of Yahweh in Zion, his praise in Jerusalem;21 To attend to the groaning of the prisoners, to release those doomed to die."
nations wil gather together, and kingdoms to worship Yahweh.22 Then the LORD'S name will be declared on Zion, the praise of God in Jerusalem,
In my journeying my strength has failed on the way;23 When all peoples and kingdoms gather to worship the LORD.
let me know the short time I have left. Do not take me away before half my days are done, for youryears run on from age to age.24 God has shattered my strength in mid-course, has cut short my days.
Long ago you laid earth's foundations, the heavens are the work of your hands.25 I plead, O my God, do not take me in the midst of my days. Your years last through all generations.
They pass away but you remain; they al wear out like a garment, like outworn clothes you changethem;26 Of old you laid the earth's foundations; the heavens are the work of your hands.
but you never alter, and your years never end.27 They perish, but you remain; they all wear out like a garment; Like clothing you change them and they are changed,
The children of those who serve you wil dwel secure, and their descendants live on in yourpresence.28 but you are the same, your years have no end.
May the children of your servants live on; may their descendants live in your presence.
