NEW JERUSALEMDOUAI-RHEIMS
[Prayer of someone afflicted, who in misfortune pours out sorrows before Yahweh] Yahweh, hear myprayer, let my cry for help reach you.1 The prayer of the poor man, when he was anxious, and poured out his supplication before the Lord.
Do not turn away your face from me when I am in trouble; bend down and listen to me, when I cal ,be quick to answer me!2 Hear, O Lord, my prayer: and let my cry come to thee.
For my days are vanishing like smoke, my bones burning like an oven;3 Turn not away thy face from me: in the day when I am in trouble, incline thy ear to me. In what day soever I shall call upon thee, hear me speedily.
like grass struck by blight, my heart is withering, I forget to eat my meals.4 For my days are vanished like smoke: and my bones are grown dry like fuel for the fire.
From the effort of voicing my groans my bones stick out through my skin.5 I am smitten as grass, and my heart is withered: because I forgot to eat my bread.
I am like a desert-owl in the wastes, a screech-owl among ruins,6 Through the voice of my groaning, my bone hath cleaved to my flesh.
I keep vigil and moan like a lone bird on a roof.7 I am become like to a pelican of the wilderness: I am like a night raven in the house.
Al day long my enemies taunt me, those who once praised me now use me as a curse.8 I have watched, and am become as a sparrow all alone on the housetop.
Ashes are the food that I eat, my drink is mingled with tears,9 All the day long my enemies reproached me: and they that praised me did swear against me.
because of your fury and anger, since you have raised me up only to cast me away;10 For I did eat ashes like bread, and mingled my drink with weeping.
my days are like a fading shadow, I am withering up like grass.11 Because of thy anger and indignation: for having lifted me up thou hast thrown me down.
But you, Yahweh, are enthroned for ever, each generation in turn remembers you.12 My days have declined like a shadow, and I am withered like grass.
Rise up, take pity on Zion! the time has come to have mercy on her, the moment has come;13 But thou, O Lord, endurest for ever: and thy memorial to all generations.
for your servants love her very stones, are moved to pity by her dust.14 Thou shalt arise and have mercy on Sion: for it is time to have mercy on it, for the time is come.
Then wil the nations revere the name of Yahweh, and al the kings of the earth your glory;15 For the stones thereof have pleased thy servants: and they shall have pity on the earth thereof.
when Yahweh builds Zion anew, he will be seen in his glory;16 And the Gentiles shall fear thy name, O Lord, and all the kings of the earth thy glory.
he wil turn to hear the prayer of the destitute, and wil not treat their prayer with scorn.17 For the Lord hath built up Sion: and he shall be seen in his glory.
This shall be put on record for a future generation, and a people yet to be born shal praise God:18 He hath had regard to the prayer of the humble: and he hath not despised their petition.
Yahweh has leaned down from the heights of his sanctuary, has looked down from heaven to earth,19 Let these things be written unto another generation: and the people that shall be created shall praise the Lord:
to listen to the sighing of the captive, and set free those condemned to death,20 Because he hath looked forth from his high sanctuary: from heaven the Lord hath looked upon the earth.
to proclaim the name of Yahweh in Zion, his praise in Jerusalem;21 That he might hear the groans of them that are in fetters: that he might release the children of the slain:
nations wil gather together, and kingdoms to worship Yahweh.22 That they may declare the name of the Lord in Sion: and his praise in Jerusalem;
In my journeying my strength has failed on the way;23 When the people assemble together, and kings, to serve the Lord.
let me know the short time I have left. Do not take me away before half my days are done, for youryears run on from age to age.24 He answered him in the way of his strength: Declare unto me the fewness of my days.
Long ago you laid earth's foundations, the heavens are the work of your hands.25 Call me not away in the midst of my days: thy years are unto generation and generation.
They pass away but you remain; they al wear out like a garment, like outworn clothes you changethem;26 In the beginning, O Lord, thou foundedst the earth: end the heavens are the works of thy hands.
but you never alter, and your years never end.27 They shall perish but thou remainest: and all of them shall grow old like a garment: And as a vesture thou shalt change them, and they shall be changed.
The children of those who serve you wil dwel secure, and their descendants live on in yourpresence.28 But thou art always the selfsame, and thy years shall not fail.
The children of thy servants shall continue: and their seed shall be directed for ever.
