David then knew that Yahweh had confirmed him as king of Israel and, for the sake of his people, hadextended his sovereignty.2 And David perceived that the Lord had confirmed him king over Israel, and that his kingdom was exalted over his people Israel.
David took more wives in Jerusalem and fathered more sons and daughters.3 And David took other wives in Jerusalem: and he beget sons, and daughters.
These are the names of the children born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,4 Now these are the names of them that were born to him in Jerusalem: Samua, and Sobad, Nathan, and Solomon,
Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet,5 Jebahar, and Elisua, and Eliphalet,

When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed as king of al Israel, they al invaded to seekhim out. On hearing this, David marched out towards them.8 And the Philistines hearing that David was anointed king over all Israel, went all up to seek him: and David heard of it, and went out against them.
When the Philistines arrived, they deployed in the Val ey of the Rephaim.9 And the Philistines came and spread themselves in the vale of Raphaim.
David consulted God and asked, 'Shall I attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my power?'Yahweh replied to him, 'Attack! I shal deliver them into your power.'10 And David consulted the Lord, saying: Shall I go up against the Philistines, and wilt thou deliver them into my hand? And the Lord said to him: Go up, and I will deliver them into thy hand.
Accordingly, they went up to Baal-Perazim and there David defeated them. David said, 'Through meGod has made a breach in my enemies, as though they had been breached by a flood.' This is why the placewas given the name Baal-Perazim.11 And when they were come to Baalpharasim, David defeated them there, and he said: God hath divided my enemies by my hand, as waters are divided: and therefore the name of that place was called Baalpharasim.
They had left their gods behind there, and David ordered them to be burnt.12 And they left there their gods, and David commanded that they should be burnt.
Again the Philistines deployed in the valley.13 Another time also the Philistines made an irruption, and spread themselves abroad in the valley.
David again consulted God, and God replied, 'Do not attack them from the front; go round andengage them opposite the balsam trees.14 And David consulted God again, and God said to him: Go not up after them, turn away from them, and come upon them over against the pear trees.
When you hear the sound of footsteps in the tops of the balsam trees, launch your attack, for that willbe God going out ahead of you to defeat the Philistine army.'15 And when thou shalt hear the sound of one going in the tops of the pear trees, then shalt thou go out to battle. For God is gone out before thee to strike the army of the Philistines.
David did as God had ordered, and they beat the Philistine army from Gibeon to Gezer.16 And David did as God had commanded him, and defeated the army of the Philistines, slaying them from Gabaon to Gazera.
David's fame then spread to every country, and Yahweh made him feared by every nation.17 And the name of David became famous in all countries, and the Lord made all nations fear him.
