1 Hiram king of Tyre sent envoys to David, with cedar wood, stone-cutters and carpenters, to build hima palace.	1 וישלח חירם מלך צר מלאכים אל דויד ועצי ארזים וחרשי קיר וחרשי עצים לבנות לו בית
2 David then knew that Yahweh had confirmed him as king of Israel and, for the sake of his people, hadextended his sovereignty.	2 וידע דויד כי הכינו יהוה למלך על ישראל כי נשאת למעלה מלכותו בעבור עמו ישראל
3 David took more wives in Jerusalem and fathered more sons and daughters.	3 ויקח דויד עוד נשים בירושלם ויולד דויד עוד בנים ובנות
4 These are the names of the children born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,	4 ואלה שמות הילודים אשר היו לו בירושלם שמוע ושובב נתן ושלמה
5 Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet,	5 ויבחר ואלישוע ואלפלט
6 Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,	6 ונגה ונפג ויפיע
7 Elishama, Beeliada, Eliphelet.	7 ואלישמע ובעלידע ואליפלט
8 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed as king of al Israel, they al invaded to seekhim out. On hearing this, David marched out towards them.	8 וישמעו פלשתים כי נמשח דויד למלך על כל ישראל ויעלו כל פלשתים לבקש את דויד וישמע דויד ויצא לפניהם
9 When the Philistines arrived, they deployed in the Val ey of the Rephaim.	9 ופלשתים באו ויפשטו בעמק רפאים
10 David consulted God and asked, 'Shall I attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my power?'Yahweh replied to him, 'Attack! I shal deliver them into your power.'	10 וישאל דויד באלהים לאמר האעלה על פלשתיים ונתתם בידי ויאמר לו יהוה עלה ונתתים בידך
11 Accordingly, they went up to Baal-Perazim and there David defeated them. David said, 'Through meGod has made a breach in my enemies, as though they had been breached by a flood.' This is why the placewas given the name Baal-Perazim.	11 ויעלו בבעל פרצים ויכם שם דויד ויאמר דויד פרץ האלהים את אויבי בידי כפרץ מים על כן קראו שם המקום ההוא בעל פרצים
12 They had left their gods behind there, and David ordered them to be burnt.	12 ויעזבו שם את אלהיהם ויאמר דויד וישרפו באש
13 Again the Philistines deployed in the valley.	13 ויסיפו עוד פלשתים ויפשטו בעמק
14 David again consulted God, and God replied, 'Do not attack them from the front; go round andengage them opposite the balsam trees.	14 וישאל עוד דויד באלהים ויאמר לו האלהים לא תעלה אחריהם הסב מעליהם ובאת להם ממול הבכאים
15 When you hear the sound of footsteps in the tops of the balsam trees, launch your attack, for that willbe God going out ahead of you to defeat the Philistine army.'	15 ויהי כשמעך את קול הצעדה בראשי הבכאים אז תצא במלחמה כי יצא האלהים לפניך להכות את מחנה פלשתים
16 David did as God had ordered, and they beat the Philistine army from Gibeon to Gezer.	16 ויעש דויד כאשר צוהו האלהים ויכו את מחנה פלשתים מגבעון ועד גזרה
17 David's fame then spread to every country, and Yahweh made him feared by every nation.	17 ויצא שם דויד בכל הארצות ויהוה נתן את פחדו על כל הגוים
