1 Chronicles 14

NEW JERUSALEM	STUTTGARTENSIA-DELITZSCH
1 Hiram king of Tyre sent envoys to David, with cedar wood, stone-cutters and carpenters, to build hima palace.	1 וַיִּשְׁלַח [חִירָם כ] (חוּרָם ק) מֶלֶךְ־צֹר מַלְאָכִים אֶל־דָּוִיד וַעֲצֵי אֲרָזִים וְחָרָשֵׁי קִיר וְחָרָשֵׁי עֵצִים לִבְנֹות לֹו בָּיִת
2 David then knew that Yahweh had confirmed him as king of Israel and, for the sake of his people, hadextended his sovereignty.	2 וַיֵּדַע דָּוִיד כִּי־הֱכִינֹו יְהוָה לְמֶלֶךְ עַל־יִשְׂרָאֵל כִּי־נִשֵּׂאת לְמַעְלָה מַלְכוּתֹו בַּעֲבוּר עַמֹּו יִשְׂרָאֵל׃ פ
3 David took more wives in Jerusalem and fathered more sons and daughters.	3 וַיִּקַּח דָּוִיד עֹוד נָשִׁים בִּירוּשָׁלִָם וַיֹּולֶד דָּוִיד עֹוד בָּנִים וּבָנֹות
4 These are the names of the children born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon,	4 וְאֵלֶּה שְׁמֹות הַיְלוּדִים אֲשֶׁר הָיוּ־לֹו בִּירוּשָׁלִָם שַׁמּוּעַ וְשֹׁובָב נָתָן וּשְׁלֹמֹה
5 Ibhar, Elishua, Elpelet,	5 וְיִבְחָר וֶאֱלִישׁוּעַ וְאֶלְפָּלֶט
6 Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,	6 וְנֹגַהּ וְנֶפֶג וְיָפִיעַ
7 Elishama, Beeliada, Eliphelet.	7 וֶאֱלִישָׁמָע וּבְעֶלְיָדָע וֶאֱלִיפָלֶט
8 When the Philistines heard that David had been anointed as king of al Israel, they al invaded to seekhim out. On hearing this, David marched out towards them.	8 וַיִּשְׁמְעוּ פְלִשְׁתִּים כִּי־נִמְשַׁח דָּוִיד לְמֶלֶךְ עַל־כָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיַּעֲלוּ כָל־פְּלִשְׁתִּים לְבַקֵּשׁ אֶת־דָּוִיד וַיִּשְׁמַע דָּוִיד וַיֵּצֵא לִפְנֵיהֶם
9 When the Philistines arrived, they deployed in the Val ey of the Rephaim.	9 וּפְלִשְׁתִּים בָּאוּ וַיִּפְשְׁטוּ בְּעֵמֶק רְפָאִים
10 David consulted God and asked, 'Shall I attack the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my power?'Yahweh replied to him, 'Attack! I shal deliver them into your power.'	10 וַיִּשְׁאַל דָּוִיד בֵּאלֹהִים לֵאמֹר הַאֶעֱלֶה עַל־ [פְּלִשְׁתִּיִּים כ] (פְּלִשְׁתִּים ק) וּנְתַתָּם בְּיָדִי וַיֹּאמֶר לֹו יְהוָה עֲלֵה וּנְתַתִּים בְּיָדֶךָ
11 Accordingly, they went up to Baal-Perazim and there David defeated them. David said, 'Through meGod has made a breach in my enemies, as though they had been breached by a flood.' This is why the placewas given the name Baal-Perazim.	11 וַיַּעֲלוּ בְּבַעַל־פְּרָצִים וַיַּכֵּם שָׁם דָּוִיד וַיֹּאמֶר דָּוִיד פָּרַץ הָאֱלֹהִים אֶת־אֹויְבַי בְּיָדִי כְּפֶרֶץ מָיִם עַל־כֵּן קָרְאוּ שֵׁם־הַמָּקֹום הַהוּא בַּעַל פְּרָצִים
12 They had left their gods behind there, and David ordered them to be burnt.	12 וַיַּעַזְבוּ־שָׁם אֶת־אֱלֹהֵיהֶם וַיֹּאמֶר דָּוִיד וַיִּשָּׂרְפוּ בָּאֵשׁ׃ פ
13 Again the Philistines deployed in the valley.	13 וַיֹּסִיפוּ עֹוד פְּלִשְׁתִּים וַיִּפְשְׁטוּ בָּעֵמֶק
14 David again consulted God, and God replied, 'Do not attack them from the front; go round andengage them opposite the balsam trees.	14 וַיִּשְׁאַל עֹוד דָּוִיד בֵּאלֹהִים וַיֹּאמֶר לֹו הָאֱלֹהִים לֹא תַעֲלֶה אַחֲרֵיהֶם הָסֵב מֵעֲלֵיהֶם וּבָאתָ לָהֶם מִמּוּל הַבְּכָאִים
15 When you hear the sound of footsteps in the tops of the balsam trees, launch your attack, for that willbe God going out ahead of you to defeat the Philistine army.'	15 וִיהִי כְּשָׁמְעֲךָ אֶת־קֹול הַצְּעָדָה בְּרָאשֵׁי הַבְּכָאִים אָז תֵּצֵא בַמִּלְחָמָה כִּי־יָצָא הָאֱלֹהִים לְפָנֶיךָ לְהַכֹּות אֶת־מַחֲנֵה פְלִשְׁתִּים
16 David did as God had ordered, and they beat the Philistine army from Gibeon to Gezer.	16 וַיַּעַשׂ דָּוִיד כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּהוּ הָאֱלֹהִים וַיַּכּוּ אֶת־מַחֲנֵה פְלִשְׁתִּים מִגִּבְעֹון וְעַד־גָּזְרָה
17 David's fame then spread to every country, and Yahweh made him feared by every nation.	17 וַיֵּצֵא שֵׁם־דָּוִיד בְּכָל־הָאֲרָצֹות וַיהוָה נָתַן אֶת־פַּחְדֹּו עַל־כָּל־הַגֹּויִם
