NEW AMERICAN BIBLEVULGATA
1 Then Bildad the Shuhite replied and said:1 Respondens autem Baldad Suhites, dixit :
2 When will you put an end to words? Reflect, and then we can have discussion.2 Usque ad quem finem verba jactabitis ?
intelligite prius, et sic loquamur.
3 Why are we accounted like the beasts, their equals in your sight?3 Quare reputati sumus ut jumenta,
et sorduimus coram vobis ?
4 You who tear yourself in your anger, shall the earth be neglected on your account (or the rock be moved out of its place)?4 Qui perdis animam tuam in furore tuo,
numquid propter te derelinquetur terra,
et transferentur rupes de loco suo ?
5 Truly, the light of the wicked is extinguished; no flame brightens his hearth.5 Nonne lux impii extinguetur,
nec splendebit flamma ignis ejus ?
6 The light is darkened in his tent; in spite of him, his lamp goes out.6 Lux obtenebrescet in tabernaculo illius,
et lucerna quæ super eum est extinguetur.
7 His vigorous steps are hemmed in, and his own counsel casts him down.7 Arctabuntur gressus virtutis ejus,
et præcipitabit eum consilium suum.
8 For he rushes headlong into a net, and he wanders into a pitfall.8 Immisit enim in rete pedes suos,
et in maculis ejus ambulat.
9 A trap seizes him by the heel, and a snare lays hold of him.9 Tenebitur planta illius laqueo,
et exardescet contra eum sitis.
10 A noose for him is hid on the ground, and the toils for him on the way.10 Abscondita est in terra pedica ejus,
et decipula illius super semitam.
11 On every side terrors affright him; they harry him at each step.11 Undique terrebunt eum formidines,
et involvent pedes ejus.
12 Disaster is ready at his side,12 Attenuetur fame robur ejus,
et inedia invadat costas illius.
13 the first-born of death consumes his limbs.13 Devoret pulchritudinem cutis ejus ;
consumat brachia illius primogenita mors.
14 Fiery destruction lodges in his tent, and marches him off to the king of terrors. He is plucked from the security of his tent;14 Avellatur de tabernaculo suo fiducia ejus,
et calcet super eum, quasi rex, interitus.
15 over his abode brimstone is scattered.15 Habitent in tabernaculo illius socii ejus qui non est ;
aspergatur in tabernaculo ejus sulphur.
16 Below, his roots dry up, and above, his branches wither.16 Deorsum radices ejus siccentur :
sursum autem atteratur messis ejus.
17 His memory perishes from the land, and he has no name on the earth.17 Memoria illius pereat de terra,
et non celebretur nomen ejus in plateis.
18 He is driven from light into darkness, and banished out of the world.18 Expellet eum de luce in tenebras,
et de orbe transferet eum.
19 He has neither son nor grandson among his people, nor any survior where once he dwelt.19 Non erit semen ejus, neque progenies in populo suo,
nec ullæ reliquiæ in regionibus ejus.
20 They who come after shall be appalled at his fate; they who went before are struck with horror.20 In die ejus stupebunt novissimi,
et primos invadet horror.
21 So is it then with the dwelling of the impious man, and such is the place of him who knows not God!21 Hæc sunt ergo tabernacula iniqui,
et iste locus ejus qui ignorat Deum.
