Then Bildad the Shuhite replied and said:1 But Baldad the Suhite responded by saying:
When will you put an end to words? Reflect, and then we can have discussion.2 How long will you throw around words? Understand first, and then let us speak.
Why are we accounted like the beasts, their equals in your sight?3 Why have we been treated like mules, as if we were unworthy before you?
You who tear yourself in your anger, shall the earth be neglected on your account (or the rock be moved out of its place)?4 You, who ruins your own soul in your fury, will the earth be forsaken because of you, and will the cliffs be moved from their place?
Truly, the light of the wicked is extinguished; no flame brightens his hearth.5 Will not the light of the impious be put out, and the flame of his fire refuse to shine?
The light is darkened in his tent; in spite of him, his lamp goes out.6 Light will become darkness in his tabernacle, and the lamp that is over him will be extinguished.
His vigorous steps are hemmed in, and his own counsel casts him down.7 His strong steps will be constrained, and his own counsel will cast him down uncontrollably.
For he rushes headlong into a net, and he wanders into a pitfall.8 For he has caused his own feet to go into a net, and he has walked into its web.
A trap seizes him by the heel, and a snare lays hold of him.9 His heel will be held in a snare, and thirst will rage against him.
A noose for him is hid on the ground, and the toils for him on the way.10 A trap has been hidden for him in the earth, and a decoy, along his path.
On every side terrors affright him; they harry him at each step.11 Horrifying things will terrify him everywhere and will entangle his feet.
Disaster is ready at his side,12 Let his strength be diminished by famine, and let starvation invade his ribs.
the first-born of death consumes his limbs.13 Let it devour the beauty of his skin; let the ancient death consume his arms.
Fiery destruction lodges in his tent, and marches him off to the king of terrors. He is plucked from the security of his tent;14 Let his confidence be torn away from his tabernacle, and let ruin trample over him like a king.
over his abode brimstone is scattered.15 Let the companions of he who is not, dwell in his tabernacle; let brimstone rain down upon his tabernacle.
Below, his roots dry up, and above, his branches wither.16 Let his roots be dried up from beneath him, and his harvest be crushed from above.
His memory perishes from the land, and he has no name on the earth.17 Let the memory of him perish from the earth, and let not his name be celebrated in the streets.
He is driven from light into darkness, and banished out of the world.18 He will expel him from light into darkness, and he will remove him from the world.
He has neither son nor grandson among his people, nor any survior where once he dwelt.19 Neither his offspring, nor his descendents, will exist among his people, nor will there be any remnants in his country.
They who come after shall be appalled at his fate; they who went before are struck with horror.20 The last will be astonished at his day, and the first will be overcome with horror.
So is it then with the dwelling of the impious man, and such is the place of him who knows not God!21 And so, these are the tabernacles of the sinful, and this the place of he who does not know God.
