1 Then Bildad the Shuhite replied and said:	1 Bildad de Chouah prit alors la parole:
2 When will you put an end to words? Reflect, and then we can have discussion.	2 Quand finiras-tu tous ces discours? Sois raisonnable, et laisse-nous parler.
3 Why are we accounted like the beasts, their equals in your sight?	3 Nous prends-tu pour des bêtes, nous regardes-tu comme des brutes?
4 You who tear yourself in your anger, shall the earth be neglected on your account (or the rock be moved out of its place)?	4 Pourquoi te déchirer dans ta fureur? La terre va-t-elle se perdre pour autant ou les rochers changer de place?
5 Truly, the light of the wicked is extinguished; no flame brightens his hearth.	5 Mais vois: la lumière du méchant s’éteint, son feu ne jette plus de flammes.
6 The light is darkened in his tent; in spite of him, his lamp goes out.	6 La lumière baisse dans sa tente, sa lampe au-dessus de lui s’éteint.
7 His vigorous steps are hemmed in, and his own counsel casts him down.	7 Sa démarche alerte devient hésitante, ses propres combines le font tomber.
8 For he rushes headlong into a net, and he wanders into a pitfall.	8 Ses pieds le conduisent vers un filet, ou le précipitent dans la trappe.
9 A trap seizes him by the heel, and a snare lays hold of him.	9 Un nœud coulant le saisit à la cheville, le collet se resserre sur lui.
10 A noose for him is hid on the ground, and the toils for him on the way.	10 Une corde, cachée en terre, va le prendre, un piège est sur le sentier pour l’attraper.
11 On every side terrors affright him; they harry him at each step.	11 Des dangers de tous côtés le menacent, et le suivent à la trace.
12 Disaster is ready at his side,	12 La famine ne le quitte plus, le malheur se tient à ses côtés.
13 the first-born of death consumes his limbs.	13 Un mal ronge sa chair, une peste mortelle lui dévore les membres.
14 Fiery destruction lodges in his tent, and marches him off to the king of terrors. He is plucked from the security of his tent;	14 On l’arrache au refuge de sa tente, il est bon pour aller vers le Roi des enfers.
15 over his abode brimstone is scattered.	15 Installe-toi dans sa tente, elle n’est plus à lui; on répand du soufre sur son domaine.
16 Below, his roots dry up, and above, his branches wither.	16 Ses racines en bas se dessèchent, et par le haut sa ramure se flétrit.
17 His memory perishes from the land, and he has no name on the earth.	17 On ne se souvient plus de lui dans le pays, il n’a laissé son nom sur rien.
18 He is driven from light into darkness, and banished out of the world.	18 On le remise de la lumière aux ténèbres, il est expulsé du monde.
19 He has neither son nor grandson among his people, nor any survior where once he dwelt.	19 Dans son peuple il n’a laissé ni enfants, ni suivants, de son campement, nul n’a survécu.
20 They who come after shall be appalled at his fate; they who went before are struck with horror.	20 Tout l’Occident s’étonne de son sort, tous en Orient sont saisis d’effroi.
21 So is it then with the dwelling of the impious man, and such is the place of him who knows not God!	21 Voilà pour les demeures des méchants, voilà pour la contrée qui veut ignorer Dieu!
