Job 18

NEW AMERICAN BIBLE	LXX
1 Then Bildad the Shuhite replied and said:	1 υπολαβων δε βαλδαδ ο σαυχιτης λεγει
2 When will you put an end to words? Reflect, and then we can have discussion.	2 μεχρι τινος ου παυση επισχες ινα και αυτοι λαλησωμεν
3 Why are we accounted like the beasts, their equals in your sight?	3 δια τι ωσπερ τετραποδα σεσιωπηκαμεν εναντιον σου
4 You who tear yourself in your anger, shall the earth be neglected on your account (or the rock be moved out of its place)?	4 κεχρηται σοι οργη τι γαρ εαν συ αποθανης αοικητος η υπ' ουρανον η καταστραφησεται ορη εκ θεμελιων
5 Truly, the light of the wicked is extinguished; no flame brightens his hearth.	5 και φως ασεβων σβεσθησεται και ουκ αποβησεται αυτων η φλοξ
6 The light is darkened in his tent; in spite of him, his lamp goes out.	6 το φως αυτου σκοτος εν διαιτη ο δε λυχνος επ' αυτω σβεσθησεται
7 His vigorous steps are hemmed in, and his own counsel casts him down.	7 θηρευσαισαν ελαχιστοι τα υπαρχοντα αυτου σφαλαι δε αυτου η βουλη
8 For he rushes headlong into a net, and he wanders into a pitfall.	8 εμβεβληται δε ο πους αυτου εν παγιδι εν δικτυω ελιχθειη
9 A trap seizes him by the heel, and a snare lays hold of him.	9 ελθοισαν δε επ' αυτον παγιδες κατισχυσει επ' αυτον διψωντας
10 A noose for him is hid on the ground, and the toils for him on the way.	10 κεκρυπται εν τη γη σχοινιον αυτου και η συλλημψις αυτου επι τριβων
11 On every side terrors affright him; they harry him at each step.	11 κυκλω ολεσαισαν αυτον οδυναι πολλοι δε περι ποδας αυτου ελθοισαν εν λιμω στενω
12 Disaster is ready at his side,	12 πτωμα δε αυτω ητοιμασται εξαισιον
13 the first-born of death consumes his limbs.	13 βρωθειησαν αυτου κλωνες ποδων κατεδεται δε τα ωραια αυτου θανατος
14 Fiery destruction lodges in his tent, and marches him off to the king of terrors. He is plucked from the security of his tent;	14 εκραγειη δε εκ διαιτης αυτου ιασις σχοιη δε αυτον αναγκη αιτια βασιλικη
15 over his abode brimstone is scattered.	15 κατασκηνωσει εν τη σκηνη αυτου εν νυκτι αυτου κατασπαρησονται τα ευπρεπη αυτου θειω
16 Below, his roots dry up, and above, his branches wither.	16 υποκατωθεν αι ριζαι αυτου ξηρανθησονται και επανωθεν επιπεσειται θερισμος αυτου
17 His memory perishes from the land, and he has no name on the earth.	17 το μνημοσυνον αυτου απολοιτο εκ γης και υπαρχει ονομα αυτω επι προσωπον εξωτερω
18 He is driven from light into darkness, and banished out of the world.	18 απωσειεν αυτον εκ φωτος εις σκοτος
19 He has neither son nor grandson among his people, nor any survior where once he dwelt.	19 ουκ εσται επιγνωστος εν λαω αυτου ουδε σεσωσμενος εν τη υπ' ουρανον ο οικος αυτου αλλ' εν τοις αυτου ζησονται ετεροι
20 They who come after shall be appalled at his fate; they who went before are struck with horror.	20 επ' αυτω εστεναξαν εσχατοι πρωτους δε εσχεν θαυμα
21 So is it then with the dwelling of the impious man, and such is the place of him who knows not God!	21 ουτοι εισιν οικοι αδικων ουτος δε ο τοπος των μη ειδοτων τον κυριον
