1 Then Bildad the Shuhite replied and said:	1 - Prese allora a parlare Baldad il Suhita e disse:
2 When will you put an end to words? Reflect, and then we can have discussion.	2 «Fino a quando butterete fuori delle parole? Prima fate senno, e poi ragioneremo.
3 Why are we accounted like the beasts, their equals in your sight?	3 Perchè dovremo noi essere stimati come bestie, e riputati immondi agli occhi vostri?
4 You who tear yourself in your anger, shall the earth be neglected on your account (or the rock be moved out of its place)?	4 Se tu uccidi l'anima tua nel tuo furore, resterà forse abbandonata per causa tua la terra, e si sposterà la rupe dal posto suo?
5 Truly, the light of the wicked is extinguished; no flame brightens his hearth.	5 Non è forse vero che la luce dell'empio si spegnerà, nè brillerà la fiamma del suo fuoco?
6 The light is darkened in his tent; in spite of him, his lamp goes out.	6 La luce s'oscurerà nella sua tenda, e la lucerna che gli sta sopra si spegnerà.
7 His vigorous steps are hemmed in, and his own counsel casts him down.	7 Coartati saranno i suoi fieri passi, lo farà procombere il suo stesso consiglio;
8 For he rushes headlong into a net, and he wanders into a pitfall.	8 che spingerà egli i suoi piedi in una rete, e nelle sue maglie ei dovrà camminare;
9 A trap seizes him by the heel, and a snare lays hold of him.	9 ghermirà un laccio il suo calcagno, e lo avvinceranno calappii:
10 A noose for him is hid on the ground, and the toils for him on the way.	10 nascosta in terra sta per lui la fune, e sul sentiero sta per lui la trappola.
11 On every side terrors affright him; they harry him at each step.	11 D'ogni lato lo spaventano terrori, e impacceranno i piedi di lui:
12 Disaster is ready at his side,	12 la sua robustezza sarà snervata dalla fame, e l'inedia invaderà i suoi fianchi.
13 the first-born of death consumes his limbs.	13 Divorerà la florida sua carnagione, consumandone le membra, la primogenita della morte.
14 Fiery destruction lodges in his tent, and marches him off to the king of terrors. He is plucked from the security of his tent;	14 Sarà asportata dalla sua tenda la sua fiducia, lo calcherà, come dominatrice, la morte.
15 over his abode brimstone is scattered.	15 Abiteranno nella tenda di lui, che più non è, i suoi compagni, sarà cosparsa di zolfo la sua dimora.
16 Below, his roots dry up, and above, his branches wither.	16 Al disotto le sue radici si seccheranno, al disopra sarà reciso il suo ramo.
17 His memory perishes from the land, and he has no name on the earth.	17 Il suo ricordo perirà da sulla terra, e il suo nome non sarà più ricordato sulle piazze.
18 He is driven from light into darkness, and banished out of the world.	18 Sarà sospinto dalla luce delle tenebre, e via dal mondo sarà scacciato.
19 He has neither son nor grandson among his people, nor any survior where once he dwelt.	19 Non avrà posteri nè discendenza nel suo popolo, nè alcuna sopravvivenza nelle sue regioni.
20 They who come after shall be appalled at his fate; they who went before are struck with horror.	20 Del suo giorno di rovina sbigottiscono gli Occidentali, ne sentono orrore gli Orientali.
21 So is it then with the dwelling of the impious man, and such is the place of him who knows not God!	21 Tali sono le tende dell'empioe questa la sorte di chi ignora Dio.»
