Job 14

1 Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.	1 L’uomo, nato da una donna, ha vita breve e piena di affanni.
2 He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.	2 Come un fiore sboccia e appassisce; fugge come l’ombra e non si arresta e si disfà come legno fradicio, come un vestito roso dalla tignola.
3 And dost thou open thine eyes upon such an one, and bringest me into judgment with thee?	3 Sopra di lui tu tieni gli occhi aperti e lo citi in giudizio con te?
4 Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.	4 Chi trae cose pure dall’immondizia? Nessuno.
5 Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;	5 Se dunque i suoi giorni sono decretati e il numero dei suoi mesi lo tieni tu, e hai messo un termine che non si può varcare,
6 Turn from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as an hireling, his day.	6 distogli da lui lo sguardo e lascialo stare, finché non compia, come un salariato, la sua giornata.
7 For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.	7 Perché C'è una speranza per l’albero: anche tagliato, si rinnova e i suoi polloni non. cessano.
8 Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;	8 Se la sua radice invecchia nella terra e il suo tronco muore nel suolo,
9 Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.	9 all’odore dell’acqua rigermoglia e getta fronde come pianta nuova.
10 But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?	10 Ma l’uomo muore e resta inanimato, il mortale spira; e dov’è mai?
11 As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up:	11 Potranno mancare le acque al mare e un fiume seccarsi e inaridire;
12 So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.	12 ma l’uomo giacerà senza rialzarsi; finché dura il cielo non si sveglierà e più non si desterà dal suo sonno.
13 O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me!	13 Chi farà sì che tu mi occulti nello Sheol, mi celi finché non passi la tua ira e fissi un termine per ricordarti di me?
14 If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.	14 Se l’uomo muore, forse può rivivere? Tutti i giorni della mia milizia aspetterei, fino al giungere del mio turno.
15 Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands.	15 Mi chiameresti e io ti risponderei, tu reclameresti l’opera delle tue mani.
16 For now thou numberest my steps: dost thou not watch over my sin?	16 Siccome ora conti i miei passi, non avresti gli occhi fissi sul mio peccato;
17 My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and thou sewest up mine iniquity.	17 sarebbero sigillati in un sacco i miei falli e cancelleresti la mia iniquità.
18 And surely the mountain falling cometh to nought, and the rock is removed out of his place.	18 Ma, ahimè! il monte frana, scompare, il masso si stacca dal suo posto,
19 The waters wear the stones: thou washest away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man.	19 le acque rodono le pietre, le alluvioni travolgono i terreni; tu distruggi la speranza dell’uomo.
20 Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.	20 Tu lo sopraffai e una volta per sempre egli se ne va; egli cambia il volto e tu lo fai partire.
21 His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them.	21 Siano i suoi figli onorati, egli non lo saprà; siano disprezzati, egli non li vede:
22 But his flesh upon him shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn.	22 al massimo, la sua carne potrebbe sentire solo i suoi dolori e la sua anima piangere su se stessa».
