1 Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,	1 Então, Sofar de Naamat tomou a palavra nestes termos:
2 Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?	2 “Ficará sem resposta o que fala muito? Terá razão o grande falador?
3 Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?	3 Tua loquacidade fará calar os demais? Zombarás sem que ninguém te repreenda?
4 For thou hast said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in thine eyes.	4 Dizes: ‘Minha opinião é a verdadeira, sou puro aos teus olhos’.
5 But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;	5 Oxalá Deus pudesse falar e abrir seus lábios para te responder.
6 And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.	6 Se te revelasse os mistérios da sabedoria, que são ambíguos para o espírito, saberias então que Deus esquece uma parte de tua iniquidade.
7 Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?	7 Pretendes sondar as profundezas divinas, atingir a perfeição do Todo-poderoso?
8 It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?	8 Ela é mais alta do que o céu! Que podes tu fazer? É mais profunda que os infernos! Que podes tu saber?
9 The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.	9 É mais longa que a terra, mais larga que o mar.
10 If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him?	10 Se ele surge para aprisionar, se apela à justiça, quem o impedirá?
11 For he knoweth vain men: he seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider it?	11 Pois ele conhece os malfeitores, descobre a iniquidade, presta atenção.
12 For vain man would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass's colt.	12 Diante disso, uma pessoa insensata pode criar juízo, e um asno tornar-se criatura humana.
13 If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him;	13 Se voltares teu coração para Deus, e para ele estenderes os braços;
14 If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.	14 se afastares de tuas mãos o mal e não abrigares a iniquidade debaixo de tua tenda,
15 For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear:	15 então poderás erguer a fronte sem mancha; serás estável, sem mais nenhum temor.
16 Because thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away:	16 Esquecerás daí por diante as tuas penas, como águas que passaram, serão apenas uma lembrança.
17 And thine age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.	17 O futuro te será mais brilhante do que o meio-dia, as trevas se transformarão em aurora.
18 And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety.	18 Terás confiança e ficarás cheio de esperança. Olhando em volta de ti, dormirás tranquilo.
19 Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee.	19 Repousarás sem que ninguém te inquiete e muitos acariciarão o teu rosto.
20 But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.	20 Porém, os olhos dos maus serão consumidos, para eles, nenhum refúgio, e não terão outra esperança senão em seu último suspiro”.
