Job 11

1 Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,	1 Allora Zofar il naamatita prese la parola e disse:
2 Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?	2 "Una tale quantità di parole resterà senza risposta? Dovrà forse aver ragione il ciarlatano?
3 Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?	3 I tuoi sproloqui faranno tacere la gente, ti farai beffe senza che nessuno ti confonda?
4 For thou hast said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in thine eyes.	4 Tu hai detto: "La mia dottrina è pura e sono irreprensibile davanti a te!".
5 But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;	5 Ah, se Dio volesse parlare e aprire le sue labbra contro di te!
6 And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.	6 Se ti rivelasse i segreti della sapienza, che sono ambigui a intendersi, allora tu sapresti che Dio perdona parte della tua colpa.
7 Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?	7 Pretendi forse di sondare l'intimo di Dio, e di penetrare la perfezione dell'Onnipotente?
8 It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?	8 Essa è più alta dei cieli: che farai? E' più profonda degli inferi: che ne puoi sapere?
9 The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.	9 E' più estesa della terra nella sua dimensione e più vasta del mare.
10 If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him?	10 Se si presenta, imprigiona (qualcuno) e lo cita in giudizio, chi glielo può impedire?
11 For he knoweth vain men: he seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider it?	11 Sì, egli conosce gli uomini falsi, vede l'iniquità e l'osserva:
12 For vain man would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass's colt.	12 l'uomo stolto mette giudizio, quando il puledro di un onagro nasce uomo!
13 If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him;	13 Tu invece, se rivolgi il tuo cuore a Dio e stendi verso di lui le tue mani,
14 If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.	14 se allontani dalla tua mano l'iniquità, se non permetterai all'ingiustizia di abitare nella tua tenda,
15 For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear:	15 allora potrai levare la tua fronte senza macchia, starai saldo e non avrai timore.
16 Because thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away:	16 Allora dimenticherai le disgrazie, le ricorderai come acqua passata.
17 And thine age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.	17 La tua vita risorgerà più bella di un meriggio e le tenebre diventeranno come un mattino.
18 And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety.	18 Sarai sicuro, perché c'è speranza, e guardandoti intorno, riposerai tranquillo.
19 Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee.	19 Dormirai senza che nessuno ti disturbi, anzi molti cercheranno il tuo favore.
20 But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.	20 Invece gli occhi dei malvagi si consumano, ogni scampo verrà loro a mancare; la loro speranza è l'ultimo respiro".
