Job 11

1 Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,	1 - Prese allora a parlare Sofar il Naamatita e disse:
2 Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?	2 «O che, colui che molto parla non dovrà pure ascoltare? ovvero l'uomo di molte parole avrà ragione?
3 Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?	3 Tu solo ridurrai al silenzio gli uomini? e dopo scherniti gli altri, da nessuno sarai svergognato?
4 For thou hast said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in thine eyes.	4 Tu invero hai detto: - La mia dottrina è pura, e mondo io sono al tuo cospetto! -
5 But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;	5 Invece, oh! se Dio volesse parlar teco, ed aprir le sue labbra [a ragionar] con te,
6 And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.	6 sì da manifestarti i segreti della sapienza, e come sia molteplice la sua norma! Comprenderesti allora che egli ti richiede molto menodi quanto meriterebbe la tua iniquità
7 Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?	7 capirai tu forse i procedimenti di Dio, e fino alla perfezione dell'Onnipotente giungerai?
8 It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?	8 Egli è il più eccelso del cielo - tu che puoi fare?è più profondo degl'inferi - tu come puoi conoscere?
9 The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.	9 Più esteso della terra è per misura, più largo è del mare!
10 If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him?	10 Se sconvolge ogni cosa, o tutto insieme costringe, chi potrà a lui opporsi?
11 For he knoweth vain men: he seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider it?	11 Egli infatti conosce la vanità degli uomini, e scorgendo il male, non farà attenzione?
12 For vain man would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass's colt.	12 L'uomo insensato si leva in superbia, e qual giovane onagro si stima nato indipendente.
13 If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him;	13 Ma [se] tu rendi stabile il cuor tuo, e distendi verso lui le tue mani;
14 If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.	14 se rimuovi da te l'iniquità che è in mano tua, e l'ingiustizia non alberghi nella tua tenda:
15 For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear:	15 allora potrai sollevare il tuo volto senza macchia, sarai ben fondato e non temerai;
16 Because thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away:	16 pur della miseria tu ti scorderai, e come d'acqua passata te ne ricorderai.
17 And thine age shall be clearer than the noonday; thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.	17 Un fulgore come a mezzodì spunterà per te sulla sera, e quando ti crederai distrutto sorgerai come stella del mattino.
18 And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety.	18 Ti sentirai fiducioso per la speranza che hai dinanzi, e ispezionata [la tua abitazione], dormirai tranquillo:
19 Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee.	19 riposerai, nè alcuno ti incuterà spavento. Molti alla tua presenza renderanno omaggio,
20 But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.	20 mentre gli occhi degli empii verranno meno; verrà loro a mancare ogni scampo, e loro speranza sarà abominio d'anima.»
