Prima lettera a Timoteo 4

NOVA VULGATA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Spiritus autem manifeste dicit, quia in novissimis temporibus discedent quidam a fide, attendentes spiritibus seductoribus et doctrinis daemoniorum,	1 The Spirit has explicitly said that during the last times some wil desert the faith and pay attention todeceitful spirits and doctrines that come from devils,
2 in hypocrisi loquentium mendacium et cauteriatam habentium suam conscientiam,	2 seduced by the hypocrisy of liars whose consciences are branded as though with a red-hot iron:
3 prohibentium nubere, abstinere a cibis, quos Deus creavit ad percipiendum cum gratiarum actione fidelibus et his, qui cognoverunt veritatem.	3 they forbid marriage and prohibit foods which God created to be accepted with thanksgiving by all whobelieve and who know the truth.
4 Quia omnis creatura Dei bona, et nihil reiciendum, quod cum gratiarum actione percipitur;	4 Everything God has created is good, and no food is to be rejected, provided it is received withthanksgiving:
5 sanctificatur enim per verbum Dei et orationem.	5 the word of God and prayer make it holy.
6 Haec proponens fratribus bonus eris minister Christi Iesu, enutritus verbis fidei et bonae doctrinae, quam assecutus es;	6 If you put al this to the brothers, you wil be a good servant of Christ Jesus and show that you havereal y digested the teaching of the faith and the good doctrine which you have always fol owed.
7 profanas autem et aniles fabulas devita. Exerce teipsum ad pietatem;	7 Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales. Train yourself for religion.
8 nam corporalis exercitatio ad modicum utilis est, pietas autem ad omnia utilis est promissionem habens vitae, quae nunc est, et futurae.	8 Physical exercise is useful enough, but the usefulness of religion is unlimited, since it holds out promiseboth for life here and now and for the life to come;
9 Fidelis sermo et omni acceptione dignus:	9 that is a saying that you can rely on and nobody should doubt it.
10 in hoc enim laboramus et certamus, quia sperantes sumus in Deum vivum, qui est salvator omnium hominum, maxime fidelium.	10 I mean that the point of al our toiling and battling is that we have put our trust in the living God and heis the Saviour of the whole human race but particularly of al believers.
11 Praecipe haec et doce.	11 This is what you are to instruct and teach.
12 Nemo adulescentiam tuam contemnat; sed exemplum esto fidelium in verbo, in conversatione, in caritate, in fide, in castitate.	12 Let no one disregard you because you are young, but be an example to al the believers in the way youspeak and behave, and in your love, your faith and your purity.
13 Dum venio, attende lectioni, exhortationi, doctrinae.	13 Until I arrive, devote yourself to reading to the people, encouraging and teaching.
14 Noli neglegere donationem, quae in te est, quae data est tibi per prophetiam cum impositione manuum presbyterii.	14 You have in you a spiritual gift which was given to you when the prophets spoke and the body of elderslaid their hands on you; do not neglect it.
15 Haec meditare, in his esto, ut profectus tuus manifestus sit omnibus.	15 Let this be your care and your occupation, and everyone wil be able to see your progress.
16 Attende tibi et doctrinae; insta in illis; hoc enim faciens et teipsum salvum facies et eos, qui te audiunt.	16 Be conscientious about what you do and what you teach; persevere in this, and in this way you wilsave both yourself and those who listen to you.
