1 Ai ventiquattro del mese sesto, l'anno secondo del re Dario,	1 on the twenty-fourth day of the month, in the sixth month, in the second year of king Darius.
2 Il settimo mese, ai ventuno del mese, il Signore parlò ad Aggeo profeta, e disse:	2 And in the seventh month, on the twenty-first of the month, the word of the Lord came, by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying:
3 Parla a Zorobabel figliuolo di Salathiel principe di Giuda, e a Gesù figliuolo di Josedec sommo sacerdote, è al resto del popolo, e dì loro:	3 Speak to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, the governor of Judah, and to Jesus the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remainder of the people, saying:
4 Chi è rimaso di voi, che abbia veduta questa casa nella prima sua gloria? e quale vi sembra ella adesso? Non è ella agli occhi vostri come se non fosse?	4 Who is left among you, who saw this house in its first glory? And how do you see it now? Is it not, in comparison to that, as nothing in your eyes?
5 Ora però fatti cuore, o Zorobabel, dice il Signore, e fatti animo, o Gesù figliuolo di Josedec sommo sacerdote, e tu fatti animo, o popolo quanto sei, dice il Signore degli eserciti, e adempite (perocché io sono con voi, dice il Signore degli eserciti)	5 And now be strengthened, Zerubbabel, says the Lord. And be strengthened, Jesus the son of Jehozadak, the high priest. And be strengthened, all people of the land, says the Lord of hosts. For I am with you, says the Lord of hosts.
6 La parola fermata con voi quando uscivate dalla terra di Egitto, e il mio spirito sarà in mezzo a voi: non temete;	6 And act according to the word that I planted with you when you departed from the land of Egypt. And my Spirit will be in your midst. Do not be afraid.
7 Perocché così dice il Signore degli eserciti: Ancora un pochetto, e io metterò in movimento il cielo, la terra, il mare, e il mondo.	7 For thus says the Lord of hosts: There is yet one brief time, and I will move heaven and earth, and the sea and the dry land.
8 E metterò in movimento tutte le genti, perchè verrà il desiderato da tutte le genti, ed empierò di gloria questa casa dice il Signore degli eserciti.	8 And I will move all nations. And the Desired of all nations will arrive. And I will fill this house with glory, says the Lord of hosts.
9 Mio è l'argento, e mio è l'oro, dice il Signore degli eserciti.	9 Mine is the silver, and mine is the gold, says the Lord of hosts.
10 Maggiore sarà la gloria di quest'ultima casa, che della prima, dice il Signore degli eserciti, e in questo luogo darò la pace, dice il Signore degli eserciti.	10 Great shall be the glory of this house, the last more than the first, says the Lord of hosts. And in this place, I will bestow peace, says the Lord of hosts.
11 Ai ventiquattro del nono mese, l'anno secondo del re Dario, il Signore parlò ad Aggeo profeta, e disse:	11 On the twenty-fourth of the ninth month, in the second year of king Darius, the word of the Lord came to Haggai the prophet, saying:
12 Queste cose dice il Signor degli eserciti: Proponi ai sacerdoti questa questione legale:	12 Thus says the Lord of hosts: the priests question the law, saying:
13 Se un uomo porta della carne santificata nel lembo della sua veste, e con esso lembo tocca o pane, o pietanza, o vino, od olio, o altra cosa da mangiare, sarà ella santificata? E i sacerdoti risposero, e disser di no.	13 If a man will have carried sanctified flesh in the pocket of his garment, and the top of it touches his bread, or appetizer, or wine, or oil, or any food, shall it be sanctified? But the priests responded by saying, “No.”
14 E Aggeo disse: Se uno contaminato per ragione di un morto toccherà alcuna di queste cose, sarà ella forse contaminata? E i sacerdoti risposero, e dissero: sarà contaminata.	14 And Haggai said, “If the polluted in soul will have touched any of all these things, shall it be contaminated?” And the priests responded and said, “It shall be contaminated.”
15 E Aggeo rispose, e disse: Così è questo popolo, e questa nazione dinanzi a me, dice il Signore, e così va di tutte le opere delle loro mani: e quanto hanno offerto in questo luogo, tutto è immondo.	15 And Haggai answered and he said: Such is this people, and such is this nation before my face, says the Lord, and such is all the work of their hands. And so all that they have offered there has been contaminated.
16 Ora voi riflettete a quel, che fu da questo giorno in addietro, prima che voi poneste pietra sopra pietra nel tempio del Signore,	16 And now, consider in your hearts, from this day and beyond, before stone may be placed upon stone in the temple of the Lord:
17 Quando appressandovi a una massa di venti moggia, diventava di dieci, e andando allo strettoio per ispremere cinquanta barili, diventavano venti.	17 when you approached a pile of twenty measures, and they became ten, and you entered to the press, to press out fifty bottles, and they became twenty,
18 Io percossi voi col vento ardente, e con la ruggine, e colla grandine tutte le vostre fatiche, e non v'ebbe tra voi chi ritornasse a me, dice il Signore.	18 how I struck you with a burning wind, and a mildew, and a hailstorm, all the works of your hand, yet there was no one among you who returned to me, says the Lord.
19 Ma fate attenzione in cuor vostro da questo giorno in avvenire, dai venti quattro del nono mese, dal dì, in cui furon gettate le fondamenta del tempio del Signore, fateci attenzione.	19 Set your hearts from this day and into the future, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, from the day that the foundations of the temple of the Lord have been uttered, and place it upon your heart.
20 Forse germina già il seme? forse già la vigna, e il fico, e il melogranato, e la pianta dell'ulivo han gettati i fiori? ma io da questo dì li benedirò.	20 Has the seed been germinated yet? And has the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree still not flourished? From this day on, I will bless you.
21 E il Signore parlò la seconda volta ad Aggeo, ai ventiquattro del mese, e disse:	21 And the word of the Lord came a second time to Haggai, on the twenty-fourth of the month, saying:
22 Parla a Zorobabel principe di Giuda, e dì a lui: Io metterò in movimento il cielo insieme, e la terra.	22 Speak to Zerubbabel the governor of Judah, saying: I will move both heaven and earth.
23 E abbatterò il trono dei regni, e distruggerò la potenza del regno delle genti, e rovescerò i cocchi, e i cocchieri, e caderanno i cavalli, e i cavalieri, e il fratello per le mani del fratello.	23 And I will overturn the throne of kingdoms, and I will crush the strength of the kingdom of the Gentiles. And I will overturn the four-horse chariot, and its rider; and the horses and their riders shall be brought down, a man by the sword of his brother.
24 In quel tempo, dice il Signore degli eserciti, io innalzerò te, o Zorobabel, figliuolo di Salathiel, mio servo, dice il Signore, ed io ti terrò come un anello da sigillare, perchè io ti ho eletto, dice il Signore degli eserciti.	24 In that day, says the Lord of hosts, I will take you, Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, my servant, says the Lord, and will set you like a seal, for I have chosen you, says the Lord of hosts.
