Seconda lettera a Timoteo 2

BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Tu dunque, figlio mio, attingi sempre forza nella grazia che è in Cristo Gesù	1 As for you, my dear son, take strength from the grace which is in Christ Jesus.
2 e le cose che hai udito da me in presenza di molti testimoni, trasmettile a persone fidate, le quali siano in grado di ammaestrare a loro volta anche altri.	2 Pass on to reliable people what you have heard from me through many witnesses so that they in turn wilbe able to teach others.
3 Insieme con me prendi anche tu la tua parte di sofferenze, come un buon soldato di Cristo Gesù.	3 Bear with your share of difficulties, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
4 Nessuno però, quando presta servizio militare, s'intralcia nelle faccende della vita comune, se vuol piacere a colui che l'ha arruolato.	4 No one on active service involves himself in the affairs of civilian life, because he must win the approvalof the man who enlisted him;
5 Anche nelle gare atletiche, non riceve la corona se non chi ha lottato secondo le regole.	5 or again someone who enters an athletic contest wins only by competing in the sports -- a prize can bewon only by competing according to the rules;
6 L'agricoltore poi che si affatica, dev'essere il primo a cogliere i frutti della terra.	6 and again, it is the farmer who works hard that has the first claim on any crop that is harvested.
7 Cerca di comprendere ciò che voglio dire; il Signore certamente ti darà intelligenza per ogni cosa.	7 Think over what I have said, and the Lord wil give you ful understanding.
8 Ricordati che Gesù Cristo, della stirpe di Davide, è risuscitato dai morti, secondo il mio vangelo,	8 Remember the gospel that I carry, 'Jesus Christ risen from the dead, sprung from the race of David';
9 a causa del quale io soffro fino a portare le catene come un malfattore; ma la parola di Dio non è incatenata!	9 it is on account of this that I have to put up with suffering, even to being chained like a criminal. ButGod's message cannot be chained up.
10 Perciò sopporto ogni cosa per gli eletti, perché anch'essi raggiungano la salvezza che è in Cristo Gesù, insieme alla gloria eterna.	10 So I persevere for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they, too, may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
11 Certa è questa parola: Se moriamo con lui, vivremo anche con lui;	11 Here is a saying that you can rely on: If we have died with him, then we shal live with him.
12 se con lui perseveriamo, con lui anche regneremo; se lo rinneghiamo, anch'egli ci rinnegherà;	12 If we persevere, then we shal reign with him. If we disown him, then he wil disown us.
13 se noi manchiamo di fede, egli però rimane fedele, perché non può rinnegare se stesso.	13 If we are faithless, he is faithful still, for he cannot disown his own self.
14 Richiama alla memoria queste cose, scongiurandoli davanti a Dio di evitare le vane discussioni, che non giovano a nulla, se non alla perdizione di chi le ascolta.	14 Remind them of this; and tell them in the name of God that there must be no wrangling about words: althat this ever achieves is the destruction of those who are listening.
15 Sfòrzati di presentarti davanti a Dio come un uomo degno di approvazione, un lavoratore che non ha di che vergognarsi, uno scrupoloso dispensatore della parola della verità.	15 Make every effort to present yourself before God as a proven worker who has no need to be ashamed,but who keeps the message of truth on a straight path.
16 Evita le chiacchiere profane, perché esse tendono a far crescere sempre più nell'empietà;	16 Have nothing to do with godless philosophical discussions -- they only lead further and further awayfrom true religion.
17 la parola di costoro infatti si propagherà come una cancrena. Fra questi ci sono Imenèo e Filèto,	17 Talk of this kind spreads corruption like gangrene, as in the case of Hymenaeus and Philetus,
18 i quali hanno deviato dalla verità, sostenendo che la risurrezione è già avvenuta e così sconvolgono la fede di alcuni.	18 the men who have gone astray from the truth, claiming that the resurrection has already taken place.They are upsetting some people's faith.
19 Tuttavia il fondamento gettato da Dio sta saldo e porta questo sigillo: 'Il Signore conosce i suoi', e ancora: 'Si allontani dall'iniquità chiunque invoca il nome del Signore.'	19 However, God's solid foundation-stone stands firm, and this is the seal on it: 'The Lord knows thosewho are his own' and 'Al who cal on the name of the Lord must avoid evil.'
20 In una casa grande però non vi sono soltanto vasi d'oro e d'argento, ma anche di legno e di coccio; alcuni sono destinati ad usi nobili, altri per usi più spregevoli.	20 Not al the dishes in a large house are made of gold and silver; some are made of wood orearthenware: the former are held in honour, the latter held cheap.
21 Chi si manterrà puro astenendosi da tali cose, sarà un vaso nobile, santificato, utile al padrone, pronto per ogni opera buona.	21 If someone holds himself aloof from these faults I speak of, he wil be a vessel held in honour,dedicated and fit for the Master, ready for any good work.
22 Fuggi le passioni giovanili; cerca la giustizia, la fede, la carità, la pace, insieme a quelli che invocano il Signore con cuore puro.	22 Turn away from the passions of youth, concentrate on uprightness, faith, love and peace, in union withal those who cal on the Lord with a pure heart.
23 Evita inoltre le discussioni sciocche e non educative, sapendo che generano contese.	23 Avoid these foolish and undisciplined speculations, understanding that they only give rise to quarrels;
24 Un servo del Signore non dev'essere litigioso, ma mite con tutti, atto a insegnare, paziente nelle offese subite,	24 and a servant of the Lord must not engage in quarrels, but must be kind to everyone, a good teacher,and patient.
25 dolce nel riprendere gli oppositori, nella speranza che Dio voglia loro concedere di convertirsi, perché riconoscano la verità	25 He must be gentle when he corrects people who oppose him, in the hope that God may give them achange of mind so that they recognise the truth
26 e ritornino in sé sfuggendo al laccio del diavolo, che li ha presi nella rete perché facessero la sua volontà.	26 and come to their senses, escaping the trap of the devil who made them his captives and subjectedthem to his will.
