1 E tu, figlio dell'uomo, prendi una spada affilata, usala come un rasoio da barbiere e raditi i capelli e la barba; poi prendi una bilancia e dividi i peli tagliati.	1 'Son of man, take a sharp sword, use it like a barber's razor and run it over your head and beard. Thentake scales and divide the hair you have cut off.
2 Un terzo lo brucerai sul fuoco in mezzo alla città al termine dei giorni dell'assedio; prenderai un altro terzo e lo taglierai con la spada intorno alla città e l'altro terzo lo disperderai al vento, mentre io sguainerò la spada dietro ad essi.	2 Burn one-third inside the city, while the days of the siege are working themselves out. Then takeanother third and chop it up with the sword all round the city. The last third you are to scatter to the wind, while Iunsheathe the sword behind them.
3 Di questi ne prenderai un piccolo numero e li legherai al lembo del tuo mantello;	3 Also take a few hairs and tie them up in the folds of your cloak;
4 ne prenderai ancora una piccola parte e li getterai sul fuoco e li brucerai e da essi si sprigionerà il fuoco. A tutti gli Israeliti riferirai:	4 and of these again take a few, and throw them on the fire and burn them. From them fire will come onthe whole House of Israel.

6 Essa si è ribellata con empietà alle mie leggi più delle genti e ai miei statuti più dei paesi che la circondano: hanno disprezzato i miei decreti e non han camminato secondo i miei comandamenti.	6 She has rebelled more perversely against my observances than the nations have, and against my lawsthan the surrounding countries have; for they have rejected my observances and not kept my laws."
7 Perciò, dice il Signore Dio: Poiché voi siete più ribelli delle genti che vi circondano, non avete seguito i miei comandamenti, non avete osservato i miei decreti e neppure avete agito secondo i costumi delle genti che vi stanno intorno,	7 'Therefore, the Lord Yahweh says this, "Because your disorders are worse than those of the nationsround you, since you do not keep my laws or respect my observances, and since you do not respect even theobservances of the surrounding nations,
8 ebbene, così dice il Signore Dio: Ecco anche me contro di te: farò in mezzo a te giustizia di fronte alle genti.	8 very wel , the Lord Yahweh says this: I, too, am against you and shal execute my judgements on youfor the nations to see.
9 Farò in mezzo a te quanto non ho mai fatto e non farò mai più, a causa delle tue colpe abominevoli.	9 Because of al your loathsome practices I shal do such things as I have never done before, nor shallever do again.
10 Perciò in mezzo a te i padri divoreranno i figli e i figli divoreranno i padri. Compirò in te i miei giudizi e disperderò ad ogni vento quel che resterà di te.	10 Those of you who are parents wil eat their children, and children wil eat their parents. I shall executejudgement on you and disperse what remains of you to the winds.
11 Com'è vero ch'io vivo, dice il Signore Dio, poiché tu hai profanato il mio santuario con tutte le tue nefandezze e con tutte le tue cose abominevoli, anch'io raderò tutto, il mio occhio non s'impietosirà, non avrò compassione.	11 For, as I live -- declares Lord Yahweh -- as sure as you have defiled my sanctuary with al your horrorsand all your loathsome practices, so I too shal reject you without a glance of pity, I shal not spare you.
12 Un terzo dei tuoi morirà di peste e perirà di fame in mezzo a te; un terzo cadrà di spada nei tuoi dintorni e l'altro terzo lo disperderò a tutti i venti e sguainerò la spada dietro di essi.	12 A third of your citizens wil die of plague or starve to death inside you; a third wil fall by the swordround you; and a third I shal scatter to the winds, unsheathing the sword behind them.
13 Allora darò sfogo alla mia ira, sazierò su di loro il mio furore e mi vendicherò; allora sapranno che io, il Signore, avevo parlato con sdegno, quando sfogherò su di loro il mio furore.	13 I shal sate my anger and bring my fury to rest on them until I am avenged; and when I have sated myfury on them, then they wil know that I, Yahweh, spoke out of jealousy for you.

I, Yahweh, have spoken.
16 quando scoccherò contro di voi le terribili saette della fame, che portano distruzione e che lancerò per distruggervi, e aumenterò la fame contro di voi, togliendovi la riserva del pane.	16 On them I shal send the deadly arrows of famine, which wil destroy you -- for I shall send them todestroy you; then I shall make the famine worse and cut off your food supply.

Io, il Signore, ho parlato".	17 I shal send famine and wild animals on you to rob you of your children; plague and bloodshed wilsweep through you, and I shal bring the sword down on you. I, Yahweh, have spoken." '
