Ezechiele 17

BIBBIA CEI 1974	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Mi fu rivolta ancora questa parola del Signore:	1 The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as follows,
2 "Figlio dell'uomo, proponi un enigma e racconta una parabola agli Israeliti.	2 'Son of man, put a riddle, propound a parable to the House of Israel.
3 Tu dirai: Dice il Signore Dio: Un'aquila grande dalle grandi ali e dalle lunghe penne, folta di piume dal colore variopinto, venne sul Libano e portò via la cima del cedro;	3 Say, "The Lord Yahweh says this: A great eagle with great wings, long-pinioned, rich with many-coloured plumage, came to the Lebanon.
4 stroncò il ramo più alto e lo portò in un paese di mercanti, lo depose in una città di negozianti.	4 He took the top of the cedar tree, he plucked off the top branch, he carried it off to the country ofmerchants and set it down in a city of shopkeepers.
5 Scelse un germoglio del paese e lo depose in un campo da seme; lungo il corso di grandi acque, lo piantò come un salice,	5 Next, he took one of the country's seeds and put it in a fertile field; by the side of a generous stream,like a wil ow tree, he placed it.
6 perché germogliasse e diventasse una vite estesa, poco elevata, che verso l'aquila volgesse i rami e le radici crescessero sotto di essa. Divenne una vite, che fece crescere i tralci e distese i rami.	6 It grew and became a fruitful vine of modest size, grew up towards the eagle, its roots grewdownwards. So it became a vine, branching out and sprouting new shoots.
7 Ma c'era un'altra aquila grande, larga di ali, folta di penne. Ed ecco quella vite rivolse verso di lei le radici e tese verso di lei i suoi tralci, perché la irrigasse dall'aiuola dove era piantata.	7 But there was another great eagle with great wings and thick plumage. And now the vine twisted itsroots towards him and stretched its branches towards him, for him to water it away from the bed where it wasplanted.
8 In un campo fertile, lungo il corso di grandi acque, essa era piantata, per metter rami e dar frutto e diventare una vite magnifica.	8 It was in a fertile field, by the side of a wide stream that the vine had been planted, to branch out andbear fruit and become a noble vine."
9 Riferisci loro: Dice il Signore Dio: Riuscirà a prosperare? O non svellerà forse l'aquila le sue radici e vendemmierà il suo frutto e seccheranno tutti i tralci che ha messo? Non ci vorrà un grande sforzo o molta gente per svellerla dalle radici.	9 Say, "The Lord Yahweh says this: Will it succeed? Wil the eagle not tear out its roots and strip off itsfruit, so that al the new leaves it puts out wil wither, and no great strength is needed nor many people to pul itup by the roots?
10 Ecco, essa è piantata: riuscirà a prosperare? O non seccherà del tutto non appena l'avrà sfiorata il vento d'oriente? Proprio nell'aiuola dove è germogliata, seccherà!".	10 Planted it may be -- wil it succeed? Wil it not shrivel up when the east wind blows? It wil wither inthe bed where it was growing!" '
11 Mi fu rivolta ancora questa parola del Signore:	11 The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as fol ows:
12 "Parla dunque a quella genìa di ribelli: Non sapete che cosa significa questo? Di' ancora: Ecco, il re di Babilonia è giunto a Gerusalemme, ha preso il re e i prìncipi e li ha trasportati con sé in Babilonia.	12 'Say to that tribe of rebels, "Do you not know what this means?" Say this, 'Look, the king of Babyloncame to Jerusalem; he carried away the king and the princes, and took them to his home in Babylon.
13 Si è scelto uno di stirpe reale e ha fatto un patto con lui, obbligandolo con giuramento. Ha deportato i potenti del paese,	13 He took a member of the royal family and made a treaty with him, forcing him to swear loyalty, havingalready deported the leading men of the country,
14 perché il regno fosse debole e non potesse innalzarsi ed egli osservasse e mantenesse l'alleanza con lui.	14 so that the kingdom would remain modest and without ambitions, and would keep and honour histreaty.
15 Ma questi gli si è ribellato e ha mandato messaggeri in Egitto, perché gli fossero dati cavalli e molti soldati. Potrà prosperare, potrà scampare chi ha agito così? Chi ha infranto un patto potrà uscirne senza danno?	15 But the prince rebelled against him and sent envoys to Egypt to procure himself horses and a largenumber of troops. Wil he succeed? Wil a man who has done this go unpunished? Can he break a treaty and gounpunished?
16 Per la mia vita, dice il Signore Dio, proprio nel paese del re che gli aveva dato il trono, di cui ha disprezzato il giuramento e infranto l'alleanza, presso di lui, morirà, in Babilonia.	16 As I live, I swear it -- declares the Lord Yahweh -- in Babylon, in the country of the king who put himon the throne, whose oath he has disregarded and whose treaty he has broken, there he will die.
17 Il faraone con le sue grandi forze e il suo ingente esercito non gli sarà di valido aiuto in guerra, quando si eleveranno terrapieni e si costruiranno baluardi per distruggere tante vite umane.	17 Despite the pharaoh's great army and hordes of men, he wil not be able to save him by fighting,however many earthworks are raised, however many trenches dug to the loss of many lives.
18 Ha disprezzato un giuramento, ha infranto un'alleanza: ecco, aveva dato la mano e poi ha agito in tal modo. Non potrà trovare scampo.	18 He has disregarded the oath by breaking the treaty to which he had pledged himself and, havingdone al this, wil not go unpunished.
19 Perciò così dice il Signore Dio: Com'è vero ch'io vivo, il mio giuramento che egli ha disprezzato, la mia alleanza che ha infranta li farò ricadere sopra il suo capo.	19 "So, the Lord Yahweh says this: As I live, I swear it: my oath which he has disregarded, my treatywhich he has broken, I shall make them both recoil on his own head.
20 Stenderò su di lui la mia rete e rimarrà preso nel mio laccio. Lo porterò in Babilonia e là lo giudicherò per l'infedeltà commessa contro di me.	20 I shal throw my net over him, he wil be caught in my mesh; I shall take him to Babylon and punishhim there for being unfaithful to me.
21 Tutti i migliori delle sue schiere cadranno di spada e i superstiti saranno dispersi a tutti i venti: così saprete che io, il Signore, ho parlato.	21 Al the pick of al his troops wil fal by the sword, and the survivors be scattered to al the winds. Andyou wil know that I, Yahweh, have spoken.
22 Dice il Signore Dio: Anch'io prenderò dalla cima del cedro, dalle punte dei suoi rami coglierò un ramoscello e lo pianterò sopra un monte alto, massiccio;	22 "The Lord Yahweh says this: From the top of the tal cedar tree, from the highest branch I shal take ashoot and plant it myself on a high and lofty mountain.
23 lo pianterò sul monte alto d'Israele. Metterà rami e farà frutti e diventerà un cedro magnifico. Sotto di lui tutti gli uccelli dimoreranno, ogni volatile all'ombra dei suoi rami riposerà.	23 I shal plant it on the highest mountain in Israel. It wil put out branches and bear fruit and grow into anoble cedar tree. Every kind of bird wil live beneath it, every kind of winged creature will rest in the shade of itsbranches.
24 Sapranno tutti gli alberi della foresta che io sono il Signore, che umilio l'albero alto e innalzo l'albero basso; faccio seccare l'albero verde e germogliare l'albero secco. Io, il Signore, ho parlato e lo farò".	24 And al the trees of the countryside wil know that I, Yahweh, am the one who lays the tal tree lowand raises the low tree high, who makes the green tree wither and makes the withered bear fruit. I, Yahweh,have spoken, and I wil do it." '
