Gálatas 5

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Para ser libres nos libertó Cristo. Manteneos, pues, firmes y no os dejéis oprimir nuevamente bajo el yugo de la esclavitud.	1 Christ set us free, so that we should remain free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be fastenedagain to the yoke of slavery.
2 Soy yo, Pablo, quien os lo dice: Si os dejáis circuncidar, Cristo no os aprovechará nada.	2 I, Paul, give you my word that if you accept circumcision, Christ wil be of no benefit to you at al .
3 De nuevo declaro a todo hombre que se circuncida que queda obligado a practicar toda la ley.	3 I give my assurance once again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is under obligation tokeep the whole Law;
4 Habéis roto con Cristo todos cuantos buscáis la justicia en la ley. Os habéis apartado de la gracia.	4 once you seek to be reckoned as upright through the Law, then you have separated yourself fromChrist, you have fal en away from grace.
5 Pues a nosotros nos mueve el Espíritu a aguardar por la fe los bienes esperados por la justicia.	5 We are led by the Spirit to wait in the confident hope of saving justice through faith,
6 Porque en Cristo Jesús ni la circuncisión ni la incircuncisión tienen valor, sino solamente la fe que actúa por la caridad.	6 since in Christ Jesus it is not being circumcised or being uncircumcised that can effect anything -- onlyfaith working through love.
7 Comenzasteis bien vuestra carrera, ¿quién os puso obstáculo para no seguir a la verdad?	7 You began your race wel ; who came to obstruct you and stop you obeying the truth?
8 Semejante persuasión no proviene de Aquel que os llama.	8 It was certainly not any prompting from him who called you!
9 Un poco de levadura fermenta toda la masa.	9 A pinch of yeast ferments the whole batch.
10 Por mi parte, confío en el Señor que vosotros no pensaréis de otra manera; pero el que os perturba llevará su castigo, quienquiera que sea.	10 But I feel sure that, united in the Lord, you wil not be led astray, and that anyone who makes troublewith you will be condemned, no matter who he is.
11 En cuanto a mí, hermanos, si aún predico la circuncisión, ¿por qué soy todavía perseguido? ¡Pues se acabó ya el escándalo de la cruz!	11 And I, brothers -- if I were stil preaching circumcision, why should I still be persecuted? For then theobstacle which is the cross would have no point any more.
12 ¡Ojalá que se mutilaran los que os perturban!	12 I could wish that those who are unsettling you would go further and mutilate themselves.
13 Porque, hermanos, habéis sido llamados a la libertad; sólo que no toméis de esa libertad pretexto para la carne; antes al contrario, servíos por amor los unos a los otros.	13 After al , brothers, you were called to be free; do not use your freedom as an opening for self-indulgence, but be servants to one another in love,
14 Pues toda la ley alcanza su plenitud en este solo precepto: Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo.	14 since the whole of the Law is summarised in the one commandment: You must love your neighbour asyourself.
15 Pero si os mordéis y os devoráis mutuamente, ¡mirad no vayáis mutuamente a destruiros!	15 If you go snapping at one another and tearing one another to pieces, take care: you will be eaten up byone another.
16 Por mi parte os digo: Si vivís según el Espíritu, no daréis satisfacción a las apetencias de la carne.	16 Instead, I tel you, be guided by the Spirit, and you wil no longer yield to self-indulgence.
17 Pues la carne tiene apetencias contrarias al espíritu, y el espíritu contrarias a la carne, como que son entre sí antagónicos, de forma que no hacéis lo que quisierais.	17 The desires of self-indulgence are always in opposition to the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are inopposition to self-indulgence: they are opposites, one against the other; that is how you are prevented fromdoing the things that you want to.
18 Pero, si sois conducidos por el Espíritu, no estáis bajo la ley.	18 But when you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law.
19 Ahora bien, las obras de la carne son conocidas: fornicación, impureza, libertinaje,	19 When self-indulgence is at work the results are obvious: sexual vice, impurity, and sensuality,
20 idolatría, hechicería, odios, discordia, celos, iras, rencillas, divisiones, disensiones,	20 the worship of false gods and sorcery; antagonisms and rivalry, jealousy, bad temper and quarrels,disagreements,
21 envidias, embriagueces, orgías y cosas semejantes, sobre las cuales os prevengo, como ya os previne, que quienes hacen tales cosas no heredarán el Reino de Dios.	21 factions and malice, drunkenness, orgies and al such things. And about these, I tel you now as I havetold you in the past, that people who behave in these ways wil not inherit the kingdom of God.
22 En cambio el fruto del Espíritu es amor, alegría, paz, paciencia, afabilidad, bondad, fidelidad,	22 On the other hand the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustfulness,
23 mansedumbre, dominio de sí; contra tales cosas no hay ley.	23 gentleness and self-control; no law can touch such things as these.
24 Pues los que son de Cristo Jesús, han crucificado la carne con sus pasiones y sus apetencias.	24 All who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified self with al its passions and its desires.
25 Si vivimos según el Espíritu, obremos también según el Espíritu.	25 Since we are living by the Spirit, let our behaviour be guided by the Spirit
26 No busquemos la gloria vana provocándonos los unos a los otros y envidiándonos mutuamente.	26 and let us not be conceited or provocative and envious of one another.
