Hechos de los Apóstoles 14

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 En Iconio, entraron del mismo modo en la sinagoga de los judíos y hablaron de tal manera que gran multitud de judíos y griegos abrazaron la fe.	1 It happened that at Iconium they went to the Jewish synagogue, in the same way, and they spoke soeffectively that a great many Jews and Greeks became believers.
2 Pero los judíos que no habían creído excitaron y envenenaron los ánimos de los gentiles contra los hermanos.	2 (However, the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the gentiles against the brothers and set them inopposition.)
3 Con todo se detuvieron allí bastante tiempo, hablando con valentía del Señor que les concedía obrar por sus manos señales y prodigios, dando así testimonio de la predicación de su gracia.	3 Accordingly Paul and Barnabas stayed on for some time, preaching fearlessly in the Lord; and heattested al they said about his gift of grace, al owing signs and wonders to be performed by them.
4 La gente de la ciudad se dividió: unos a favor de los judíos y otros a favor de los apóstoles.	4 The people in the city were divided; some supported the Jews, others the apostles,
5 Como se alzasen judíos y gentiles con sus jefes para ultrajarles y apedrearles,	5 but eventual y with the connivance of the authorities a move was made by gentiles as well as Jews tomake attacks on them and to stone them.
6 al saberlo, huyeron a las ciudades de Licaonia, a Listra y Derbe y sus alrededores.	6 When they came to hear of this, they went off for safety to Lycaonia where, in the towns of Lystra andDerbe and in the surrounding country,
7 Y allí se pusieron a anunciar la Buena Nueva.	7 they preached the good news.
8 Había allí, sentado, un hombre tullido de pies, cojo de nacimiento y que nunca había andado.	8 There was a man sitting there who had never walked in his life, because his feet were crippled frombirth;
9 Este escuchaba a Pablo que hablaba. Pablo fijó en él su mirada y viendo que tenía fe para ser curado,	9 he was listening to Paul preaching, and Paul looked at him intently and saw that he had the faith to becured.
10 le dijo con fuerte voz: «Ponte derecho sobre tus pies». Y él dio un salto y se puso a caminar.	10 Paul said in a loud voice, 'Get to your feet-stand up,' and the cripple jumped up and began to walk.
11 La gente, al ver lo que Pablo había hecho, empezó a gritar en licaonio: «Los dioses han bajado hasta nosotros en figura de hombres».	11 When the crowds saw what Paul had done they shouted in the language of Lycaonia, 'The gods havecome down to us in human form.'
12 A Bernabé le llamaban Zeus y a Pablo, Hermes, porque era quien dirigía la palabra.	12 They addressed Barnabas as Zeus, and since Paul was the principal speaker they cal ed himHermes.
13 El sacerdote del templo de Zeus que hay a la entrada de la ciudad, trajo toros y guirnaldas delante de las puertas y a una con la gente se disponía a sacrificar.	13 The priests of Zeus-outside-the-Gate, proposing that al the people should offer sacrifice with them,brought garlanded oxen to the gates.
14 Al oírlo los apóstoles Bernabé y Pablo, rasgaron sus vestidos y se lanzaron en medio de la gente gritando:	14 When the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard what was happening they tore their clothes, and rushedinto the crowd, shouting,
15 «Amigos, ¿por qué hacéis esto? Nosotros somos también hombres, de igual condición que vosotros, que os predicamos que abandonéis estas cosas vanas y os volváis al Dios vivo que hizo el cielo, la tierra, el mar y cuanto en ellos hay,	15 'Friends, what do you think you are doing? We are only human beings, mortal like yourselves. Wehave come with good news to make you turn from these empty idols to the living God who made sky and earthand the sea and all that these hold.
16 y que en las generaciones pasadas permitió que todas las naciones siguieran sus propios caminos;	16 In the past he al owed al the nations to go their own way;
17 si bien no dejó de dar testimonio de sí mismo, derramando bienes, enviándoos desde el cielo lluvias y estaciones fructíferas, llenando vuestros corazones de sustento y alegría..».	17 but even then he did not leave you without evidence of himself in the good things he does for you: hesends you rain from heaven and seasons of fruitfulness; he fil s you with food and your hearts with merriment.'
18 Con estas palabras pudieron impedir a duras penas que la gente les ofreciera un sacrificio.	18 With this speech they just managed to prevent the crowd from offering them sacrifice.
19 Vinieron entonces de Antioquía e Iconio algunos judíos y, habiendo persuadido a la gente, lapidaron a Pablo y le arrastraron fuera de la ciudad, dándole por muerto.	19 Then some Jews arrived from Antioch and Iconium and turned the people against them. They stonedPaul and dragged him outside the town, thinking he was dead.
20 Pero él se levantó y, rodeado de los discípulos, entró en la ciudad. Al día siguiente marchó con Bernabé a Derbe.	20 The disciples came crowding round him but, as they did so, he stood up and went back to the town.The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe.
21 Habiendo evangelizado aquella ciudad y conseguido bastantes discípulos, se volvieron a Listra, Iconio y Antioquía,	21 Having preached the good news in that town and made a considerable number of disciples, they wentback through Lystra, Iconium and Antioch.
22 confortando los ánimos de los discípulos, exhortándoles a perseverar en la fe y diciéndoles: «Es necesario que pasemos por muchas tribulaciones para entrar en el Reino de Dios».	22 They put fresh heart into the disciples, encouraging them to persevere in the faith, saying, 'We mustal experience many hardships before we enter the kingdom of God.'
23 Designaron presbíteros en cada Iglesia y después de hacer oración con ayunos, los encomendaron al Señor en quien habían creído.	23 In each of these churches they appointed elders, and with prayer and fasting they commended themto the Lord in whom they had come to believe.
24 Atravesaron Pisidia y llegaron a Panfilia;	24 They passed through Pisidia and reached Pamphylia.
25 predicaron en Perge la Palabra y bajaron a Atalía.	25 Then after proclaiming the word at Perga they went down to Attalia
26 Allí se embarcaron para Antioquía, de donde habían partido encomendados a la gracia de Dios para la obra que habían realizado.	26 and from there sailed for Antioch, where they had original y been commended to the grace of God forthe work they had now completed.
27 A su llegada reunieron a la Iglesia y se pusieron a contar todo cuanto Dios había hecho juntamente con ellos y cómo había abierto a los gentiles la puerta de la fe.	27 On their arrival they assembled the church and gave an account of all that God had done with them,and how he had opened the door of faith to the gentiles.
28 Y permanecieron no poco tiempo con los discípulos.	28 They stayed there with the disciples for some time.
