| 8 Dad, pues, frutos dignos de conversión, y no andéis diciendo en vuestro interior: “Tenemos por padre a Abraham”; porque os digo que puede Dios de estas piedras dar hijos a Abraham. | 8 Bear fruits that befit repentance, and do not begin to say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father'; for I tell you, God is able from these stones to raise up children to Abraham. |
| 9 Y ya está el hacha puesta a la raíz de los árboles; y todo árbol que no dé buen fruto será cortado y arrojado al fuego». | 9 Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees; every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire." |

| 15 Como el pueblo estaba a la espera, andaban todos pensando en sus corazones acerca de Juan, si no sería él el Cristo; | 15 As the people were in expectation, and all men questioned in their hearts concerning John, whether perhaps he were the Christ, |
| 16 respondió Juan a todos, diciendo: «Yo os bautizo con agua; pero viene el que es más fuerte que yo, y no soy digno de desatarle la correa de sus sandalias. El os bautizará en Espíritu Santo y fuego. | 16 John answered them all, "I baptize you with water; but he who is mightier than I is coming, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie; he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. |
| 17 En su mano tiene el bieldo para limpiar su era y recoger el trigo en su granero; pero la paja la quemará con fuego que no se apaga». | 17 His winnowing fork is in his hand, to clear his threshing floor, and to gather the wheat into his granary, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire." |
| 18 Y, con otras muchas exhortaciones, anunciaba al pueblo la Buena Nueva. | 18 So, with many other exhortations, he preached good news to the people. |
| 19 Pero Herodes, el tetrarca, reprendido por él a causa de Herodías, la mujer de su hermano, y a causa de todas las malas acciones que había hecho, | 19 But Herod the tetrarch, who had been reproved by him for Herodi-as, his brother's wife, and for all the evil things that Herod had done, |
| 20 añadió a todas ellas la de encerrar a Juan en la cárcel. | 20 added this to them all, that he shut up John in prison. |
