Proverbios 27

BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 No te regocijes por el día de mañana, porque no sabes lo que deparará el día de hoy.	1 Do not congratulate yourself about tomorrow, since you do not know what today wil bring forth.
2 Que otro te alabe y no tu propia boca; un extraño, que no tus labios.	2 Let someone else sing your praises, but not your own mouth, a stranger, but not your own lips.
3 Pesada es la piedra y pesada la arena, la ira del necio es más pesada que ellas.	3 Heavy is the stone, weighty is the sand; heavier than both -- a grudge borne by a fool.
4 El furor es cruel, agua desbordada la cólera; mas ¿quién resistirá ante la envidia?	4 Cruel is wrath, overwhelming is anger; but jealousy, who can withstand that?
5 Mejor es reprensión manifiesta que amor oculto.	5 Better open reproof than feigned love.
6 Leales son las heridas del amigo, falsos los besos del enemigo.	6 Trustworthy are blows from a friend, deceitful are kisses from a foe.
7 Alma saciada pisotea la miel, al alma hambrienta, hasta lo amargo es dulce.	7 The gorged throat revolts at honey, the hungry throat finds al bitterness sweet.
8 Como yerra el pájaro lejos de su nido, así yerra el hombre lejos de su lugar.	8 Like a bird that strays from its nest, so is anyone who strays away from home.
9 El aceite y el perfume alegran el corazón, la dulzura del amigo consuela el alma.	9 Oil and perfume gladden the heart, and the sweetness of friendship rather than self-reliance.
10 No abandones a tu amigo ni al amigo de tu padre; no entres en la casa de tu hermano el día de tu infortunio. Mejor es vecino próximo que hermano alejado.	10 Do not give up your friend or your father's friend; when trouble comes, do not go off to your brother'shouse, better a near neighbour than a distant brother.
11 Sé sabio, hijo mío, y alegra mi corazón; y podré responder al que me ultraja.	11 Learn to be wise, my child, and gladden my heart, that I may have an answer for anyone who insultsme.
12 El hombre precavido ve el mal y se esconde, los simples pasan y reciben castigo.	12 The discreet sees danger and takes shelter, simpletons go ahead and pay the penalty.
13 Tómale su vestido, pues salió fiador de otro; tómale prenda por los extraños.	13 Take the man's clothes! He has gone surety for a stranger. Take a pledge from him, for personsunknown.
14 Al que ya de mañana a su prójimo bendice en alta voz, le será contado como una maldición.	14 Whoever at dawn loudly blesses his neighbour -- it will be reckoned to him as a curse.
15 Goteo incesante en día de lluvia y mujer chismosa, son iguales;	15 The dripping of a gutter on a rainy day and a quarrelsome woman are alike;
16 el que la retiene, retiene viento y aceite encuentra su derecha.	16 whoever can restrain her, can restrain the wind, and take a firm hold on grease.
17 El hierro con hierro se aguza, y el hombre con su prójimo se afina.	17 Iron is sharpened by iron, one person is sharpened by contact with another.
18 El que vigila una higuera come de su fruto, el que guarda a su señor será honrado.	18 Whoever tends the fig tree eats its figs, whoever looks after his master wil be honoured.
19 Como en el agua un rostro refleja otro rostro, así el corazón de un hombre refleja el de otro hombre.	19 As water reflects face back to face, so one human heart reflects another.
20 Seol y Perdición son insaciables; tampoco se sacian los ojos del hombre.	20 Sheol and Perdition are never satisfied, insatiable, too, are human eyes.
21 Crisol para la plata, horno para el oro, el hombre vale según su reputación.	21 A furnace for silver, a foundry for gold: a person is worth what his reputation is worth.
22 Aunque machaques al necio en el mortero, (entre el grano, con el pilón) no se apartará de él su necedad.	22 Pound a fool in a mortar, among grain with a pestle, his fol y wil not leave him.
23 Conoce a fondo el estado de tu ganado, aplica tu corazón a tu rebaño;	23 Know your flocks' condition well, take good care of your herds;
24 porque no es eterna la riqueza, no se transmite una corona de edad en edad.	24 for riches do not last for ever, crowns do not hand themselves on from age to age.
25 Cortada la hierba, aparecido el retoño, y apilado el heno de los montes,	25 The grass once gone, the aftergrowth appearing, the hay gathered in from the mountains,
26 ten corderos para poderte vestir, machos cabríos con que pagar un campo,	26 you should have lambs to clothe you, goats to buy you a field,
27 leche de cabras abundante para tu sustento, para alimentar a tu familia y mantener a tus criados.	27 goat's milk sufficient to feed you, to feed your household and provide for your serving girls.
