1 The beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ, the Son of God.	1 Inizio del vangelo di Gesù Cristo, Figlio di Dio.
2 It is written in the prophet Isaiah: Look, I am going to send my messenger in front of you to prepare yourway before you.	2 Conforme a quanto sta scritto in Isaia profeta: Ecco, io mando il mio messaggero davanti a te, il quale preparerà la tua via.
3 A voice of one that cries in the desert: Prepare a way for the Lord, make his paths straight.	3 Voce di uno che grida nel deserto: Appianate la via del Signore, rendete dritti i suoi sentieri,
4 John the Baptist was in the desert, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.	4 apparve Giovanni il battezzatore nel deserto, predicando un battesimo di penitenza per la remissione dei peccati.
5 All Judaea and all the people of Jerusalem made their way to him, and as they were baptised by him inthe river Jordan they confessed their sins.	5 Andavano da lui tutti gli abitanti della regione della Giudea e di Gerusalemme e si facevano battezzare da lui nel fiume Giordano, mentre confessavano i loro peccati.
6 John wore a garment of camel-skin, and he lived on locusts and wild honey.	6 Giovanni aveva un vestito di peli di cammello, una cintura di cuoio intorno ai fianchi e si nutriva di locuste e miele selvatico.
7 In the course of his preaching he said, 'After me is coming someone who is more powerful than me, andI am not fit to kneel down and undo the strap of his sandals.	7 Predicava dicendo: "Dopo di me viene uno che è più forte di me, a cui io non sono degno di piegarmi a sciogliere i legacci dei suoi calzari.
8 I have baptised you with water, but he wil baptise you with the Holy Spirit.'	8 Io vi ho battezzato con acqua; ma egli vi battezzerà con Spirito Santo".
9 It was at this time that Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptised in the Jordan by John.	9 Ora, in quei giorni, Gesù giunse da Nazaret di Galilea e fu battezzato da Giovanni nel Giordano.
10 And at once, as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit, likea dove, descending on him.	10 Quindi, mentre risaliva dall'acqua, vide i cieli che si squarciavano e lo Spirito che discendeva su di lui come colomba.
11 And a voice came from heaven, 'You are my Son, the Beloved; my favour rests on you.'	11 E una voce venne dai cieli: "Tu sei il Figlio mio diletto; in te mi sono compiaciuto".
12 And at once the Spirit drove him into the desert	12 Successivamente lo Spirito lo spinse nel deserto.
13 and he remained there for forty days, and was put to the test by Satan. He was with the wild animals,and the angels looked after him.	13 Egli rimase nel deserto quaranta giorni, tentato da Satana. Era con le fiere e gli angeli lo servivano.
14 After John had been arrested, Jesus went into Galilee. There he proclaimed the gospel from Godsaying,	14 Dopo che Giovanni fu arrestato, Gesù venne in Galilea, predicando il vangelo di Dio.
15 'The time is fulfil ed, and the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent, and believe the gospel.'	15 Diceva: "Il tempo è compiuto e il regno di Dio è giunto: convertitevi e credete al vangelo".
16 As he was walking along by the Lake of Galilee he saw Simon and Simon's brother Andrew casting anet in the lake -- for they were fishermen.	16 Passando lungo il mare di Galilea, vide Simone e Andrea, fratello di Simone, che gettavano le reti in mare. Infatti, erano pescatori.
17 And Jesus said to them, 'Come after me and I will make you into fishers of people.'	17 Disse loro Gesù: "Seguitemi e vi farò diventare pescatori di uomini".
18 And at once they left their nets and fol owed him.	18 Prontamente, essi, lasciate le reti, lo seguirono.
19 Going on a little further, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John; they too were in theirboat, mending the nets.	19 Procedendo poco più oltre, vide Giacomo di Zebedeo e Giovanni suo fratello, che stavano anch'essi sulla barca, rassettando le reti,
20 At once he called them and, leaving their father Zebedee in the boat with the men he employed, theywent after him.	20 e subito li chiamò. Essi, lasciato il loro padre Zebedeo con gli operai sulla barca, gli andarono appresso.
21 They went as far as Capernaum, and at once on the Sabbath he went into the synagogue and beganto teach.	21 Vanno a Cafarnao. Quindi egli, entrato di sabato nella sinagoga, si mise a insegnare.
22 And his teaching made a deep impression on them because, unlike the scribes, he taught them withauthority.	22 E si stupivano del suo insegnamento, giacché li ammaestrava come uno che ha autorità e non come gli scribi.
23 And at once in their synagogue there was a man with an unclean spirit, and he shouted,	23 Vi era nella loro sinagoga un uomo posseduto da uno spirito immondo, il quale si mise a gridare:
24 'What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are:the Holy One of God.'	24 "Che c'è fra noi e te, Gesù Nazareno? Sei venuto a rovinarci? Io so chi tu sei: il Santo di Dio!".
25 But Jesus rebuked it saying, 'Be quiet! Come out of him!'	25 Ma Gesù lo sgridò dicendogli: "Taci ed esci da lui!".
26 And the unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions and with a loud cry went out of him.	26 Allora lo spirito impuro lo scosse violentemente, poi mandò un grande grido e uscì da lui.
27 The people were so astonished that they started asking one another what it al meant, saying, 'Here isa teaching that is new, and with authority behind it: he gives orders even to unclean spirits and they obey him.'	27 Tutti furono presi da spavento, tanto che si chiedevano tra loro: "Che è mai questo? Una dottrina nuova, data con autorità. Comanda perfino agli spiriti impuri e questi gli ubbidiscono".
28 And his reputation at once spread everywhere, through all the surrounding Galilean countryside.	28 Quindi la sua fama si sparse ovunque, per tutta la regione della Galilea.
29 And at once on leaving the synagogue, he went with James and John straight to the house of Simonand Andrew.	29 Usciti dalla sinagoga, vennero nella casa di Simone e Andrea, insieme con Giacomo e Giovanni.
30 Now Simon's mother-in-law was in bed and feverish, and at once they told him about her.	30 Or la suocera di Simone giaceva a letto con la febbre e subito gli parlarono di lei.
31 He went in to her, took her by the hand and helped her up. And the fever left her and she began toserve them.	31 Avvicinatosi, le prese la mano e la fece alzare. La febbre la lasciò ed ella si mise a servirli.
32 That evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were sick and those who were possessed bydevils.	32 Venuta la sera, quando il sole fu tramontato, gli conducevano ogni sorta di malati e di indemoniati.
33 The whole town came crowding round the door,	33 Tutta la città si era raccolta davanti alla porta!
34 and he cured many who were sick with diseases of one kind or another; he also drove out manydevils, but he would not allow them to speak, because they knew who he was.	34 Egli guarì molti malati di varie malattie e scacciò molti demòni, ma non permetteva che i demòni parlassero, perché lo conoscevano bene.
35 In the morning, long before dawn, he got up and left the house and went off to a lonely place andprayed there.	35 La mattina dopo, molto presto, alzatosi uscì e si ritirò in un luogo solitario, ove rimase a pregare.
36 Simon and his companions set out in search of him,	36 Allora Simone con i suoi compagni si mise a cercarlo;
37 and when they found him they said, 'Everybody is looking for you.'	37 e, avendolo trovato, gli dicono: "Tutti ti cercano!".
38 He answered, 'Let us go elsewhere, to the neighbouring country towns, so that I can proclaim themessage there too, because that is why I came.'	38 Dice loro: "Andiamo altrove, nei villaggi vicini, per predicare anche là. Per questo, infatti, sono uscito".
39 And he went all through Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out devils.	39 E se ne andò predicando nelle loro sinagoghe per tutta la Galilea e scacciando i demòni.
40 A man suffering from a virulent skin-disease came to him and pleaded on his knees saying, 'If you arewil ing, you can cleanse me.'	40 Gli si avvicina un lebbroso e lo supplica in ginocchio dicendogli: "Se vuoi, puoi mondarmi".
41 Feeling sorry for him, Jesus stretched out his hand, touched him and said to him, 'I am willing. Becleansed.'	41 Mossosi a compassione, Gesù stese la mano, lo toccò e gli disse: "Sì, lo voglio; sii mondato!".
42 And at once the skin-disease left him and he was cleansed.	42 Subito la lebbra si allontanò da lui e fu mondato.
43 And at once Jesus sternly sent him away and said to him,	43 Quindi con tono severo lo mandò via
44 'Mind you tel no one anything, but go and show yourself to the priest, and make the offering for yourcleansing prescribed by Moses as evidence to them.'	44 dicendogli: "Bada di non dir niente a nessuno; piuttosto va' a mostrarti al sacerdote e offri, in testimonianza per essi, quanto prescritto da Mosè per la tua purificazione".
45 The man went away, but then started freely proclaiming and tel ing the story everywhere, so thatJesus could no longer go openly into any town, but stayed outside in deserted places. Even so, people from alaround kept coming to him.	45 Quegli, però, allontanatosi di lì, incominciò a proclamare insistentemente e a divulgare il fatto, sicché Gesù non poteva più entrare apertamente in una città, ma se ne restava fuori, in luoghi solitari. Tuttavia la gente accorreva a lui da ogni parte.
