NEW JERUSALEMKING JAMES BIBLE
The beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ, the Son of God.1 The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;
It is written in the prophet Isaiah: Look, I am going to send my messenger in front of you to prepare yourway before you.2 As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.
A voice of one that cries in the desert: Prepare a way for the Lord, make his paths straight.3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
John the Baptist was in the desert, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
All Judaea and all the people of Jerusalem made their way to him, and as they were baptised by him inthe river Jordan they confessed their sins.5 And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.
John wore a garment of camel-skin, and he lived on locusts and wild honey.6 And John was clothed with camel's hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey;
In the course of his preaching he said, 'After me is coming someone who is more powerful than me, andI am not fit to kneel down and undo the strap of his sandals.7 And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.
I have baptised you with water, but he wil baptise you with the Holy Spirit.'8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.
It was at this time that Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptised in the Jordan by John.9 And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.
And at once, as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit, likea dove, descending on him.10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him:
And a voice came from heaven, 'You are my Son, the Beloved; my favour rests on you.'11 And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
And at once the Spirit drove him into the desert12 And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness.
and he remained there for forty days, and was put to the test by Satan. He was with the wild animals,and the angels looked after him.13 And he was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted of Satan; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.
After John had been arrested, Jesus went into Galilee. There he proclaimed the gospel from Godsaying,14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,
'The time is fulfil ed, and the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent, and believe the gospel.'15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
As he was walking along by the Lake of Galilee he saw Simon and Simon's brother Andrew casting anet in the lake -- for they were fishermen.16 Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.
And Jesus said to them, 'Come after me and I will make you into fishers of people.'17 And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
And at once they left their nets and fol owed him.18 And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him.
Going on a little further, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John; they too were in theirboat, mending the nets.19 And when he had gone a little further thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets.
At once he called them and, leaving their father Zebedee in the boat with the men he employed, theywent after him.20 And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.
They went as far as Capernaum, and at once on the Sabbath he went into the synagogue and beganto teach.21 And they went into Capernaum; and straightway on the sabbath day he entered into the synagogue, and taught.
And his teaching made a deep impression on them because, unlike the scribes, he taught them withauthority.22 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.
And at once in their synagogue there was a man with an unclean spirit, and he shouted,23 And there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,
'What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are:the Holy One of God.'24 Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art, the Holy One of God.
But Jesus rebuked it saying, 'Be quiet! Come out of him!'25 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Hold thy peace, and come out of him.
And the unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions and with a loud cry went out of him.26 And when the unclean spirit had torn him, and cried with a loud voice, he came out of him.
The people were so astonished that they started asking one another what it al meant, saying, 'Here isa teaching that is new, and with authority behind it: he gives orders even to unclean spirits and they obey him.'27 And they were all amazed, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this? what new doctrine is this? for with authority commandeth he even the unclean spirits, and they do obey him.
And his reputation at once spread everywhere, through all the surrounding Galilean countryside.28 And immediately his fame spread abroad throughout all the region round about Galilee.
And at once on leaving the synagogue, he went with James and John straight to the house of Simonand Andrew.29 And forthwith, when they were come out of the synagogue, they entered into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.
Now Simon's mother-in-law was in bed and feverish, and at once they told him about her.30 But Simon's wife's mother lay sick of a fever, and anon they tell him of her.
He went in to her, took her by the hand and helped her up. And the fever left her and she began toserve them.31 And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.
That evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were sick and those who were possessed bydevils.32 And at even, when the sun did set, they brought unto him all that were diseased, and them that were possessed with devils.
The whole town came crowding round the door,33 And all the city was gathered together at the door.
and he cured many who were sick with diseases of one kind or another; he also drove out manydevils, but he would not allow them to speak, because they knew who he was.34 And he healed many that were sick of divers diseases, and cast out many devils; and suffered not the devils to speak, because they knew him.
In the morning, long before dawn, he got up and left the house and went off to a lonely place andprayed there.35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
Simon and his companions set out in search of him,36 And Simon and they that were with him followed after him.
and when they found him they said, 'Everybody is looking for you.'37 And when they had found him, they said unto him, All men seek for thee.
He answered, 'Let us go elsewhere, to the neighbouring country towns, so that I can proclaim themessage there too, because that is why I came.'38 And he said unto them, Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also: for therefore came I forth.
And he went all through Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out devils.39 And he preached in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and cast out devils.
A man suffering from a virulent skin-disease came to him and pleaded on his knees saying, 'If you arewil ing, you can cleanse me.'40 And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
Feeling sorry for him, Jesus stretched out his hand, touched him and said to him, 'I am willing. Becleansed.'41 And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean.
And at once the skin-disease left him and he was cleansed.42 And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.
And at once Jesus sternly sent him away and said to him,43 And he straitly charged him, and forthwith sent him away;
'Mind you tel no one anything, but go and show yourself to the priest, and make the offering for yourcleansing prescribed by Moses as evidence to them.'44 And saith unto him, See thou say nothing to any man: but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing those things which Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
The man went away, but then started freely proclaiming and tel ing the story everywhere, so thatJesus could no longer go openly into any town, but stayed outside in deserted places. Even so, people from alaround kept coming to him.45 But he went out, and began to publish it much, and to blaze abroad the matter, insomuch that Jesus could no more openly enter into the city, but was without in desert places: and they came to him from every quarter.
