1 The beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ, the Son of God.	1 Inizio del vangelo di Gesù, Cristo, Figlio di Dio.
2 It is written in the prophet Isaiah: Look, I am going to send my messenger in front of you to prepare yourway before you.	2 Come sta scritto nel profeta Isaia: Ecco, dinanzi a te io mando il mio messaggero: egli preparerà la tua via.
3 A voice of one that cries in the desert: Prepare a way for the Lord, make his paths straight.	3 Voce di uno che grida nel deserto: Preparate la via del Signore, raddrizzate i suoi sentieri,
4 John the Baptist was in the desert, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.	4 vi fu Giovanni, che battezzava nel deserto e proclamava un battesimo di conversione per il perdono dei peccati.
5 All Judaea and all the people of Jerusalem made their way to him, and as they were baptised by him inthe river Jordan they confessed their sins.	5 Accorrevano a lui tutta la regione della Giudea e tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme. E si facevano battezzare da lui nel fiume Giordano, confessando i loro peccati.
6 John wore a garment of camel-skin, and he lived on locusts and wild honey.	6 Giovanni era vestito di peli di cammello, con una cintura di pelle attorno ai fianchi, e mangiava cavallette e miele selvatico.
7 In the course of his preaching he said, 'After me is coming someone who is more powerful than me, andI am not fit to kneel down and undo the strap of his sandals.	7 E proclamava: «Viene dopo di me colui che è più forte di me: io non sono degno di chinarmi per slegare i lacci dei suoi sandali.
8 I have baptised you with water, but he wil baptise you with the Holy Spirit.'	8 Io vi ho battezzato con acqua, ma egli vi battezzerà in Spirito Santo».
9 It was at this time that Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptised in the Jordan by John.	9 Ed ecco, in quei giorni, Gesù venne da Nàzaret di Galilea e fu battezzato nel Giordano da Giovanni.
10 And at once, as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit, likea dove, descending on him.	10 E subito, uscendo dall’acqua, vide squarciarsi i cieli e lo Spirito discendere verso di lui come una colomba.
11 And a voice came from heaven, 'You are my Son, the Beloved; my favour rests on you.'	11 E venne una voce dal cielo: «Tu sei il Figlio mio, l’amato: in te ho posto il mio compiacimento».
12 And at once the Spirit drove him into the desert	12 E subito lo Spirito lo sospinse nel deserto
13 and he remained there for forty days, and was put to the test by Satan. He was with the wild animals,and the angels looked after him.	13 e nel deserto rimase quaranta giorni, tentato da Satana. Stava con le bestie selvatiche e gli angeli lo servivano.
14 After John had been arrested, Jesus went into Galilee. There he proclaimed the gospel from Godsaying,	14 Dopo che Giovanni fu arrestato, Gesù andò nella Galilea, proclamando il vangelo di Dio,
15 'The time is fulfil ed, and the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent, and believe the gospel.'	15 e diceva: «Il tempo è compiuto e il regno di Dio è vicino; convertitevi e credete nel Vangelo».
16 As he was walking along by the Lake of Galilee he saw Simon and Simon's brother Andrew casting anet in the lake -- for they were fishermen.	16 Passando lungo il mare di Galilea, vide Simone e Andrea, fratello di Simone, mentre gettavano le reti in mare; erano infatti pescatori.
17 And Jesus said to them, 'Come after me and I will make you into fishers of people.'	17 Gesù disse loro: «Venite dietro a me, vi farò diventare pescatori di uomini».
18 And at once they left their nets and fol owed him.	18 E subito lasciarono le reti e lo seguirono.
19 Going on a little further, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John; they too were in theirboat, mending the nets.	19 Andando un poco oltre, vide Giacomo, figlio di Zebedeo, e Giovanni suo fratello, mentre anch’essi nella barca riparavano le reti.
20 At once he called them and, leaving their father Zebedee in the boat with the men he employed, theywent after him.	20 E subito li chiamò. Ed essi lasciarono il loro padre Zebedeo nella barca con i garzoni e andarono dietro a lui.
21 They went as far as Capernaum, and at once on the Sabbath he went into the synagogue and beganto teach.	21 Giunsero a Cafàrnao e subito Gesù, entrato di sabato nella sinagoga, insegnava.
22 And his teaching made a deep impression on them because, unlike the scribes, he taught them withauthority.	22 Ed erano stupiti del suo insegnamento: egli infatti insegnava loro come uno che ha autorità, e non come gli scribi.
23 And at once in their synagogue there was a man with an unclean spirit, and he shouted,	23 Ed ecco, nella loro sinagoga vi era un uomo posseduto da uno spirito impuro e cominciò a gridare,
24 'What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are:the Holy One of God.'	24 dicendo: «Che vuoi da noi, Gesù Nazareno? Sei venuto a rovinarci? Io so chi tu sei: il santo di Dio!».
25 But Jesus rebuked it saying, 'Be quiet! Come out of him!'	25 E Gesù gli ordinò severamente: «Taci! Esci da lui!».
26 And the unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions and with a loud cry went out of him.	26 E lo spirito impuro, straziandolo e gridando forte, uscì da lui.
27 The people were so astonished that they started asking one another what it al meant, saying, 'Here isa teaching that is new, and with authority behind it: he gives orders even to unclean spirits and they obey him.'	27 Tutti furono presi da timore, tanto che si chiedevano a vicenda: «Che è mai questo? Un insegnamento nuovo, dato con autorità. Comanda persino agli spiriti impuri e gli obbediscono!».
28 And his reputation at once spread everywhere, through all the surrounding Galilean countryside.	28 La sua fama si diffuse subito dovunque, in tutta la regione della Galilea.
29 And at once on leaving the synagogue, he went with James and John straight to the house of Simonand Andrew.	29 E subito, usciti dalla sinagoga, andarono nella casa di Simone e Andrea, in compagnia di Giacomo e Giovanni.
30 Now Simon's mother-in-law was in bed and feverish, and at once they told him about her.	30 La suocera di Simone era a letto con la febbre e subito gli parlarono di lei.
31 He went in to her, took her by the hand and helped her up. And the fever left her and she began toserve them.	31 Egli si avvicinò e la fece alzare prendendola per mano; la febbre la lasciò ed ella li serviva.
32 That evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were sick and those who were possessed bydevils.	32 Venuta la sera, dopo il tramonto del sole, gli portavano tutti i malati e gli indemoniati.
33 The whole town came crowding round the door,	33 Tutta la città era riunita davanti alla porta.
34 and he cured many who were sick with diseases of one kind or another; he also drove out manydevils, but he would not allow them to speak, because they knew who he was.	34 Guarì molti che erano affetti da varie malattie e scacciò molti demòni; ma non permetteva ai demòni di parlare, perché lo conoscevano.
35 In the morning, long before dawn, he got up and left the house and went off to a lonely place andprayed there.	35 Al mattino presto si alzò quando ancora era buio e, uscito, si ritirò in un luogo deserto, e là pregava.
36 Simon and his companions set out in search of him,	36 Ma Simone e quelli che erano con lui si misero sulle sue tracce.
37 and when they found him they said, 'Everybody is looking for you.'	37 Lo trovarono e gli dissero: «Tutti ti cercano!».
38 He answered, 'Let us go elsewhere, to the neighbouring country towns, so that I can proclaim themessage there too, because that is why I came.'	38 Egli disse loro: «Andiamocene altrove, nei villaggi vicini, perché io predichi anche là; per questo infatti sono venuto!».
39 And he went all through Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out devils.	39 E andò per tutta la Galilea, predicando nelle loro sinagoghe e scacciando i demòni.
40 A man suffering from a virulent skin-disease came to him and pleaded on his knees saying, 'If you arewil ing, you can cleanse me.'	40 Venne da lui un lebbroso, che lo supplicava in ginocchio e gli diceva: «Se vuoi, puoi purificarmi!».
41 Feeling sorry for him, Jesus stretched out his hand, touched him and said to him, 'I am willing. Becleansed.'	41 Ne ebbe compassione, tese la mano, lo toccò e gli disse: «Lo voglio, sii purificato!».
42 And at once the skin-disease left him and he was cleansed.	42 E subito la lebbra scomparve da lui ed egli fu purificato.
43 And at once Jesus sternly sent him away and said to him,	43 E, ammonendolo severamente, lo cacciò via subito
44 'Mind you tel no one anything, but go and show yourself to the priest, and make the offering for yourcleansing prescribed by Moses as evidence to them.'	44 e gli disse: «Guarda di non dire niente a nessuno; va’, invece, a mostrarti al sacerdote e offri per la tua purificazione quello che Mosè ha prescritto, come testimonianza per loro».
45 The man went away, but then started freely proclaiming and tel ing the story everywhere, so thatJesus could no longer go openly into any town, but stayed outside in deserted places. Even so, people from alaround kept coming to him.	45 Ma quello si allontanò e si mise a proclamare e a divulgare il fatto, tanto che Gesù non poteva più entrare pubblicamente in una città, ma rimaneva fuori, in luoghi deserti; e venivano a lui da ogni parte.
