NEW JERUSALEM	JERUSALEM
1 The beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ, the Son of God.	1 Commencement de l'Evangile de Jésus Christ, Fils de Dieu.
2 It is written in the prophet Isaiah: Look, I am going to send my messenger in front of you to prepare yourway before you.	2 Selon qu'il est écrit dans Isaïe le prophète: Voici que j'envoie mon messager en avant de toi pourpréparer ta route.
3 A voice of one that cries in the desert: Prepare a way for the Lord, make his paths straight.	3 Voix de celui qui crie dans le désert: Préparez le chemin du Seigneur, rendez droits ses sentiers,
4 John the Baptist was in the desert, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.	4 Jean le Baptiste fut dans le désert, proclamant un baptême de repentir pour la rémission des péchés.
5 All Judaea and all the people of Jerusalem made their way to him, and as they were baptised by him inthe river Jordan they confessed their sins.	5 Et s'en allaient vers lui tout le pays de Judée et tous les habitants de Jérusalem, et ils se faisaientbaptiser par lui dans les eaux du Jourdain, en confessant leurs péchés.
6 John wore a garment of camel-skin, and he lived on locusts and wild honey.	6 Jean était vêtu d'une peau de chameau et mangeait des sauterelles et du miel sauvage.
7 In the course of his preaching he said, 'After me is coming someone who is more powerful than me, andI am not fit to kneel down and undo the strap of his sandals.	7 Et il proclamait: "Vient derrière moi celui qui est plus fort que moi, dont je ne suis pas digne, en mecourbant, de délier la courroie de ses sandales.
8 I have baptised you with water, but he wil baptise you with the Holy Spirit.'	8 Moi, je vous ai baptisés avec de l'eau, mais lui vous baptisera avec l'Esprit Saint."
9 It was at this time that Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptised in the Jordan by John.	9 Et il advint qu'en ces jours-là Jésus vint de Nazareth de Galilée, et il fut baptisé dans le Jourdain parJean.
10 And at once, as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit, likea dove, descending on him.	10 Et aussitôt, remontant de l'eau, il vit les cieux se déchirer et l'Esprit comme une colombe descendrevers lui,
11 And a voice came from heaven, 'You are my Son, the Beloved; my favour rests on you.'	11 et une voix vint des cieux: "Tu es mon Fils bien-aimé, tu as toute ma faveur."
12 And at once the Spirit drove him into the desert	12 Et aussitôt, l'Esprit le pousse au désert.
13 and he remained there for forty days, and was put to the test by Satan. He was with the wild animals,and the angels looked after him.	13 Et il était dans le désert durant 40 jours, tenté par Satan. Et il était avec les bêtes sauvages et lesanges le servaient.
14 After John had been arrested, Jesus went into Galilee. There he proclaimed the gospel from Godsaying,	14 Après que Jean eut été livré, Jésus vint en Galilée, proclamant l'Evangile de Dieu et disant:
15 'The time is fulfil ed, and the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent, and believe the gospel.'	15 "Le temps est accompli et le Royaume de Dieu est tout proche: repentez-vous et croyez à l'Evangile."
16 As he was walking along by the Lake of Galilee he saw Simon and Simon's brother Andrew casting anet in the lake -- for they were fishermen.	16 Comme il passait sur le bord de la mer de Galilée, il vit Simon et André, le frère de Simon, quijetaient l'épervier dans la mer; car c'étaient des pêcheurs.
17 And Jesus said to them, 'Come after me and I will make you into fishers of people.'	17 Et Jésus leur dit: "Venez à ma suite et je vous ferai devenir pêcheurs d'hommes."
18 And at once they left their nets and fol owed him.	18 Et aussitôt, laissant les filets, ils le suivirent.
19 Going on a little further, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John; they too were in theirboat, mending the nets.	19 Et avançant un peu, il vit Jacques, fils de Zébédée, et Jean son frère, eux aussi dans leur barque entrain d'arranger les filets;
20 At once he called them and, leaving their father Zebedee in the boat with the men he employed, theywent after him.	20 et aussitôt il les appela. Et laissant leur père Zébédée dans la barque avec ses employés, ils partirent àsa suite.
21 They went as far as Capernaum, and at once on the Sabbath he went into the synagogue and beganto teach.	21 Ils pénètrent à Capharnaüm. Et aussitôt, le jour du sabbat, étant entré dans la synagogue, ilenseignait.
22 And his teaching made a deep impression on them because, unlike the scribes, he taught them withauthority.	22 Et ils étaient frappés de son enseignement, car il les enseignait comme ayant autorité, et non pascomme les scribes.
23 And at once in their synagogue there was a man with an unclean spirit, and he shouted,	23 Et aussitôt il y avait dans leur synagogue un homme possédé d'un esprit impur, qui cria
24 'What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are:the Holy One of God.'	24 en disant: "Que nous veux-tu, Jésus le Nazarénien? Es-tu venu pour nous perdre? Je sais qui tu es: leSaint de Dieu."
25 But Jesus rebuked it saying, 'Be quiet! Come out of him!'	25 Et Jésus le menaça en disant: "Tais-toi et sors de lui."
26 And the unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions and with a loud cry went out of him.	26 Et le secouant violemment, l'esprit impur cria d'une voix forte et sortit de lui.
27 The people were so astonished that they started asking one another what it al meant, saying, 'Here isa teaching that is new, and with authority behind it: he gives orders even to unclean spirits and they obey him.'	27 Et ils furent tous effrayés, de sorte qu'ils se demandaient entre eux: "Qu'est cela? Un enseignementnouveau, donné d'autorité! Même aux esprits impurs, il commande et ils lui obéissent!"
28 And his reputation at once spread everywhere, through all the surrounding Galilean countryside.	28 Et sa renommée se répandit aussitôt partout, dans toute la région de Galilée.
29 And at once on leaving the synagogue, he went with James and John straight to the house of Simonand Andrew.	29 Et aussitôt, sortant de la synagogue, il vint dans la maison de Simon et d'André, avec Jacques et Jean.
30 Now Simon's mother-in-law was in bed and feverish, and at once they told him about her.	30 Or la belle-mère de Simon était au lit avec la fièvre, et aussitôt ils lui parlent à son sujet.
31 He went in to her, took her by the hand and helped her up. And the fever left her and she began toserve them.	31 S'approchant, il la fit se lever en la prenant par la main. Et la fièvre la quitta, et elle les servait.
32 That evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were sick and those who were possessed bydevils.	32 Le soir venu, quand fut couché le soleil, on lui apportait tous les malades et les démoniaques,
33 The whole town came crowding round the door,	33 et la ville entière était rassemblée devant la porte.
34 and he cured many who were sick with diseases of one kind or another; he also drove out manydevils, but he would not allow them to speak, because they knew who he was.	34 Et il guérit beaucoup de malades atteints de divers maux, et il chassa beaucoup de démons. Et il nelaissait pas parler les démons, parce qu'ils savaient qui il était.
35 In the morning, long before dawn, he got up and left the house and went off to a lonely place andprayed there.	35 Le matin, bien avant le jour, il se leva, sortit et s'en alla dans un lieu désert, et là il priait.
36 Simon and his companions set out in search of him,	36 Simon et ses compagnons le poursuivirent
37 and when they found him they said, 'Everybody is looking for you.'	37 et, l'ayant trouvé, ils lui disent: "Tout le monde te cherche."
38 He answered, 'Let us go elsewhere, to the neighbouring country towns, so that I can proclaim themessage there too, because that is why I came.'	38 Il leur dit: "Allons ailleurs, dans les bourgs voisins, afin que j'y prêche aussi, car c'est pour cela queje suis sorti."
39 And he went all through Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out devils.	39 Et il s'en alla à travers toute la Galilée, prêchant dans leurs synagogues et chassant les démons.
40 A man suffering from a virulent skin-disease came to him and pleaded on his knees saying, 'If you arewil ing, you can cleanse me.'	40 Un lépreux vient à lui, le supplie et, s'agenouillant, lui dit: "Si tu le veux, tu peux me purifier."
41 Feeling sorry for him, Jesus stretched out his hand, touched him and said to him, 'I am willing. Becleansed.'	41 Emu de compassion, il étendit la main, le toucha et lui dit: "Je le veux, sois purifié."
42 And at once the skin-disease left him and he was cleansed.	42 Et aussitôt la lèpre le quitta et il fut purifié.
43 And at once Jesus sternly sent him away and said to him,	43 Et le rudoyant, il le chassa aussitôt,
44 'Mind you tel no one anything, but go and show yourself to the priest, and make the offering for yourcleansing prescribed by Moses as evidence to them.'	44 et lui dit: "Garde-toi de rien dire à personne; mais va te montrer au prêtre et offre pour ta purificationce qu'a prescrit Moïse: ce leur sera une attestation."
45 The man went away, but then started freely proclaiming and tel ing the story everywhere, so thatJesus could no longer go openly into any town, but stayed outside in deserted places. Even so, people from alaround kept coming to him.	45 Mais lui, une fois parti, se mit à proclamer hautement et à divulguer la nouvelle, de sorte que Jésusne pouvait plus entrer ouvertement dans une ville, mais il se tenait dehors, dans des lieux déserts; et l'on venait àlui de toutes parts.
