1 The beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ, the Son of God.	1 - Principio del Vangelo di Gesù Cristo, figlio di Dio.
2 It is written in the prophet Isaiah: Look, I am going to send my messenger in front of you to prepare yourway before you.	2 Com'è scritto nel profeta Isaia: «Ecco, io mando il mio angelo dinanzi a te, a preparti la via.
3 A voice of one that cries in the desert: Prepare a way for the Lord, make his paths straight.	3 Voce di uno che grida nel deserto: - Preparate la via del Signore, raddrizzate i suoi sentieri-».
4 John the Baptist was in the desert, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.	4 Appare Giovanni a battezzare nel deserto e a predicare un battesimo di penintenza per la remissione dei peccati.
5 All Judaea and all the people of Jerusalem made their way to him, and as they were baptised by him inthe river Jordan they confessed their sins.	5 Tutto il paese della Giudea e tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme accorrevano a lui e, confessando i loro peccati, ricevevano da lui il battesimo nel fiume Giordano.
6 John wore a garment of camel-skin, and he lived on locusts and wild honey.	6 Ora Giovanni aveva vesti di pelo di cammello, con una cintura di cuoio intorno ai fianchi e si nutriva di locuste e di miele selvatico. E predicava dicendo:
7 In the course of his preaching he said, 'After me is coming someone who is more powerful than me, andI am not fit to kneel down and undo the strap of his sandals.	7 «Viene dopo di me colui che è più forte di me, al quale io non son degno di chinarmi a sciogliere il legaccio dei calzari.
8 I have baptised you with water, but he wil baptise you with the Holy Spirit.'	8 Io vi ho battezzato con acqua, ma egli vi battezzerà con lo Spirito Santo».
9 It was at this time that Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptised in the Jordan by John.	9 In quei giorni Gesù venne da Nazaret di Galilea e fu battezzato da Giovanni nel Giordano;
10 And at once, as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit, likea dove, descending on him.	10 e tosto, mentre egli usciva dall'acqua, vide spalancarsi i cieli e lo Spirito scendere sopra di lui quasi colomba.
11 And a voice came from heaven, 'You are my Son, the Beloved; my favour rests on you.'	11 E dal cielo una voce si fece udire: «Tu sei il mio Figliuolo diletto, in te ho posto le mie compiacenze».
12 And at once the Spirit drove him into the desert	12 E subito dopo lo Spirito lo spinse nel deserto,
13 and he remained there for forty days, and was put to the test by Satan. He was with the wild animals,and the angels looked after him.	13 ove rimase per quaranta giorni e quaranta notti, tentato da Satana; egli stava con le fiere e gli angeli lo servivano.
14 After John had been arrested, Jesus went into Galilee. There he proclaimed the gospel from Godsaying,	14 Dopo che Giovanni fu messo in prigione, Gesù venne in Galilea, predicando il Vangelo del regno di Dio.
15 'The time is fulfil ed, and the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent, and believe the gospel.'	15 Egli diceva: «Il tempo è compiuto e il regno di Dio è vicino; fate penitenza e credete al Vangelo».
16 As he was walking along by the Lake of Galilee he saw Simon and Simon's brother Andrew casting anet in the lake -- for they were fishermen.	16 Passando lungo il mare di Galilea, vide Simone e Andrea, fratello di lui, mentre gettavano in mare le reti, poichè erano pescatori.
17 And Jesus said to them, 'Come after me and I will make you into fishers of people.'	17 Gesù disse loro: «Venite dietro a me e vi farò pescatori di uomini».
18 And at once they left their nets and fol owed him.	18 Ed essi, lasciate prontamente le reti, lo seguirono.
19 Going on a little further, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John; they too were in theirboat, mending the nets.	19 Andato un po' avanti, vide Giacomo di Zebedeo e Giovanni fratello di lui, mentre anch'essi nella barca rassettavan le reti;
20 At once he called them and, leaving their father Zebedee in the boat with the men he employed, theywent after him.	20 subito li chiamò, ed essi, lasciato nella barca il padre loro Zebedeo coi garzoni, gli andarono dietro.
21 They went as far as Capernaum, and at once on the Sabbath he went into the synagogue and beganto teach.	21 Vennero in Cafarnao; e subito, in giorno di sabato, Gesù entrato nella sinagoga si mise ad insegnare.
22 And his teaching made a deep impression on them because, unlike the scribes, he taught them withauthority.	22 E la gente si meravigliava della sua dottrina, perchè egli insegnava come persona che ne avesse autorità e non come gli Scribi.
23 And at once in their synagogue there was a man with an unclean spirit, and he shouted,	23 In quel mentre c'era nella lor sinagoga un uomo posseduto da uno spirito immondo, il quale si mise
24 'What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are:the Holy One of God.'	24 a gridare: «Che c'è tra noi e te, Gesù Nazareno? Tu sei venuto per perderci. Io so chi tu sei: il Santo di Dio!».
25 But Jesus rebuked it saying, 'Be quiet! Come out of him!'	25 Ma Gesù lo sgridò dicendo: «Taci ed esci da costui».
26 And the unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions and with a loud cry went out of him.	26 E lo spirito immondo, dopo averlo malmenato violentemente uscì da lui urlando forte.
27 The people were so astonished that they started asking one another what it al meant, saying, 'Here isa teaching that is new, and with authority behind it: he gives orders even to unclean spirits and they obey him.'	27 Tutti restarono così sbigottiti da domandarsi tra loro: «Che cos'è mai ciò? Quale nuova dottrina è questa? Egli comanda con autorità anche agli spiriti immondi e questi gli ubbidiscono».
28 And his reputation at once spread everywhere, through all the surrounding Galilean countryside.	28 E la sua fama si sparse rapidamente in tutta la Galilea.
29 And at once on leaving the synagogue, he went with James and John straight to the house of Simonand Andrew.	29 Appena usciti dalla sinagoga, andaron con Giacomo e Giovanni nella casa di Simone d'Andrea,
30 Now Simon's mother-in-law was in bed and feverish, and at once they told him about her.	30 ove la suocera di Simone era a letto con febbre. Subito gli parlano di lei,
31 He went in to her, took her by the hand and helped her up. And the fever left her and she began toserve them.	31 ond'egli avvicinatala, la prese per la mano e la fece alzare; e tosto la febbre la lasciò ed ella si mise a servirli.
32 That evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were sick and those who were possessed bydevils.	32 Giunta la sera, e tramontato il sole gli menaron tutti i malati e gli indemoniati;
33 The whole town came crowding round the door,	33 e tutta la città si era affollata alla porta.
34 and he cured many who were sick with diseases of one kind or another; he also drove out manydevils, but he would not allow them to speak, because they knew who he was.	34 Ed egli ne curò molti ch'eran colpiti da diverse malattie e scacciò molti demoni, ma non permetteva a questi di dire di conoscerlo.
35 In the morning, long before dawn, he got up and left the house and went off to a lonely place andprayed there.	35 E alzatosi assai di buon mattino, uscì per andare in un luogo solitario a pregare.
36 Simon and his companions set out in search of him,	36 Simone e quelli ch'eran con lui si diedero a cercarlo
37 and when they found him they said, 'Everybody is looking for you.'	37 e, trovatolo, gli dissero: «Tutti ti cercano».
38 He answered, 'Let us go elsewhere, to the neighbouring country towns, so that I can proclaim themessage there too, because that is why I came.'	38 Rispose loro: «Andiamo altrove, per i villaggi e le città vicine, affinchè predichi anche là; poichè per questo io son venuto».
39 And he went all through Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out devils.	39 E andò per tutta la Galilea, predicando nelle loro sinagoghe e scacciando i demoni.
40 A man suffering from a virulent skin-disease came to him and pleaded on his knees saying, 'If you arewil ing, you can cleanse me.'	40 Venne a pregarlo un lebbroso, il quale buttatosi in ginocchio gli disse: «Se tu vuoi, puoi mondarmi».
41 Feeling sorry for him, Jesus stretched out his hand, touched him and said to him, 'I am willing. Becleansed.'	41 Mosso a pietà, Gesù stese la mano, lo toccò e gli disse: «Lo voglio; sii mondato».
42 And at once the skin-disease left him and he was cleansed.	42 E a quelle parole la lebbra sparì da lui e fu mondato.
43 And at once Jesus sternly sent him away and said to him,	43 Gesù dopo avergli fatte severe ammonizioni, lo mandò via subito,
44 'Mind you tel no one anything, but go and show yourself to the priest, and make the offering for yourcleansing prescribed by Moses as evidence to them.'	44 dicendogli: «Bada di non dir nulla a nessuno, ma va', mostrati al sacerdote e offri per la tua purificazione quanto ha ordinato Mosè in testimonianza per loro».
45 The man went away, but then started freely proclaiming and tel ing the story everywhere, so thatJesus could no longer go openly into any town, but stayed outside in deserted places. Even so, people from alaround kept coming to him.	45 Ma colui, appena partito, cominciò a parlarne e a divulgare il fatto; tanto che Gesù non poteva più entrare palesemente in alcuna città, ma se ne stava fuori in luoghi appartati e la gente accorreva a lui da ogni parte.
