NEW JERUSALEM	EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 The beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ, the Son of God.	1 Comienzo de la Buena Noticia de Jesús, Mesías, Hijo de Dios.
2 It is written in the prophet Isaiah: Look, I am going to send my messenger in front of you to prepare yourway before you.	2 Como está escrito en el libro del profeta Isaías: "Mira, yo envío a mi mensajero delante de ti para prepararte el camino.
3 A voice of one that cries in the desert: Prepare a way for the Lord, make his paths straight.	3 Una voz grita en el desierto: Preparen el camino del Señor, allanen sus senderos",
4 John the Baptist was in the desert, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.	4 así se presentó Juan el Bautista en el desierto, proclamando un bautismo de conversión para el perdón de los pecados.
5 All Judaea and all the people of Jerusalem made their way to him, and as they were baptised by him inthe river Jordan they confessed their sins.	5 Toda la gente de Judea y todos los habitantes de Jerusalén acudían a él, y se hacían bautizar en las aguas del Jordán, confesando sus pecados.
6 John wore a garment of camel-skin, and he lived on locusts and wild honey.	6 Juan estaba vestido con una piel de camello y un cinturón de cuero, y se alimentaba con langostas y miel silvestre. Y predicaba, diciendo:
7 In the course of his preaching he said, 'After me is coming someone who is more powerful than me, andI am not fit to kneel down and undo the strap of his sandals.	7 «Detrás de mi vendrá el que es más poderoso que yo, y yo ni siquiera soy digno de ponerme a sus pies para desatar la correa de sus sandalias.
8 I have baptised you with water, but he wil baptise you with the Holy Spirit.'	8 Yo los he bautizado a ustedes con agua, pero él los bautizará con el Espíritu Santo».
9 It was at this time that Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptised in the Jordan by John.	9 En aquellos días, Jesús llegó desde Nazaret de Galilea y fue bautizado por Juan en el Jordán.
10 And at once, as he was coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens torn apart and the Spirit, likea dove, descending on him.	10 Y al salir del agua, vio que los cielos se abrían y que el Espíritu Santo descendía sobre él como una paloma;
11 And a voice came from heaven, 'You are my Son, the Beloved; my favour rests on you.'	11 y una voz desde el cielo dijo: «Tú eres mi Hijo muy querido, en ti tengo puesta toda mi predilección».
12 And at once the Spirit drove him into the desert	12 En seguida el Espíritu lo llevó al desierto,
13 and he remained there for forty days, and was put to the test by Satan. He was with the wild animals,and the angels looked after him.	13 donde estuvo cuarenta días y fue tentado por Satanás. Vivía entre las fieras, y los ángeles lo servían.
14 After John had been arrested, Jesus went into Galilee. There he proclaimed the gospel from Godsaying,	14 Después que Juan fue arrestado, Jesús se dirigió a Galilea. Allí proclamaba la Buena Noticia de Dios, diciendo:
15 'The time is fulfil ed, and the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent, and believe the gospel.'	15 «El tiempo se ha cumplido: el Reino de Dios está cerca. Conviértanse y crean en la Buena Noticia». Los primeros discípulos
16 As he was walking along by the Lake of Galilee he saw Simon and Simon's brother Andrew casting anet in the lake -- for they were fishermen.	16 Mientras iba por la orilla del mar de Galilea, vio a Simón y a su hermano Andrés, que echaban las redes en el agua, porque eran pescadores.
17 And Jesus said to them, 'Come after me and I will make you into fishers of people.'	17 Jesús les dijo: «Síganme, y yo los haré pescadores de hombres».
18 And at once they left their nets and fol owed him.	18 Inmediatamente, ellos dejaron sus redes y lo siguieron.
19 Going on a little further, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John; they too were in theirboat, mending the nets.	19 Y avanzando un poco, vio a Santiago, hijo de Zebedeo, y a su hermano Juan, que estaban también en su barca arreglando las redes. En seguida los llamó,
20 At once he called them and, leaving their father Zebedee in the boat with the men he employed, theywent after him.	20 y con ellos, dejando en la barca a su padre Zebedeo con los jornaleros, lo siguieron.
21 They went as far as Capernaum, and at once on the Sabbath he went into the synagogue and beganto teach.	21 Entraron en Cafarnaúm, y cuando llegó el sábado, Jesús fue a la sinagoga y comenzó a enseñar.
22 And his teaching made a deep impression on them because, unlike the scribes, he taught them withauthority.	22 Todos estaban asombrados de su enseñanza, porque les enseñaba como quien tiene autoridad y no como los escribas.
23 And at once in their synagogue there was a man with an unclean spirit, and he shouted,	23 Y había en la sinagoga un hombre poseído de un espíritu impuro, que comenzó a gritar;
24 'What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are:the Holy One of God.'	24 «¿Qué quieres de nosotros, Jesús Nazareno? ¿Has venido para acabar con nosotros? Ya sé quién eres: el Santo de Dios».
25 But Jesus rebuked it saying, 'Be quiet! Come out of him!'	25 Pero Jesús lo increpó, diciendo: «Cállate y sal de este hombre».
26 And the unclean spirit threw the man into convulsions and with a loud cry went out of him.	26 El espíritu impuro lo sacudió violentamente, y dando un alarido, salió de ese hombre.
27 The people were so astonished that they started asking one another what it al meant, saying, 'Here isa teaching that is new, and with authority behind it: he gives orders even to unclean spirits and they obey him.'	27 Todos quedaron asombrados y se preguntaban unos a otros: «¿Qué es esto? ¡Enseña de una manera nueva, llena de autoridad; da órdenes a los espíritus impuros, y estos le obedecen!».
28 And his reputation at once spread everywhere, through all the surrounding Galilean countryside.	28 Y su fama se extendió rápidamente por todas partes, en toda la región de Galilea.
29 And at once on leaving the synagogue, he went with James and John straight to the house of Simonand Andrew.	29 Cuando salió de la sinagoga, fue con Santiago y Juan a casa de Simón y Andrés.
30 Now Simon's mother-in-law was in bed and feverish, and at once they told him about her.	30 La suegra de Simón estaba en cama con fiebre, y se lo dijeron de inmediato.
31 He went in to her, took her by the hand and helped her up. And the fever left her and she began toserve them.	31 El se acercó, la tomó de la mano y la hizo levantar. Entonces ella no tuvo más fiebre y se puso a servirlos.
32 That evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were sick and those who were possessed bydevils.	32 Al atardecer, después de ponerse el sol, le llevaron a todos los enfermos y endemoniados,
33 The whole town came crowding round the door,	33 y la ciudad entera se reunió delante de la puerta.
34 and he cured many who were sick with diseases of one kind or another; he also drove out manydevils, but he would not allow them to speak, because they knew who he was.	34 Jesús curó a muchos enfermos, que sufrían de diversos males, y expulsó a muchos demonios; pero a estos no los dejaba hablar, porque sabían quién era él.
35 In the morning, long before dawn, he got up and left the house and went off to a lonely place andprayed there.	35 Por la mañana, antes que amaneciera, Jesús se levantó, salió y fue a un lugar desierto; allí estuvo orando.
36 Simon and his companions set out in search of him,	36 Simón salió a buscarlo con sus compañeros,
37 and when they found him they said, 'Everybody is looking for you.'	37 y cuando lo encontraron, le dijeron: «Todos te andan buscando».
38 He answered, 'Let us go elsewhere, to the neighbouring country towns, so that I can proclaim themessage there too, because that is why I came.'	38 El les respondió: «Vayamos a otra parte, a predicar también en las poblaciones vecinas, porque para eso he salido».
39 And he went all through Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out devils.	39 Y fue predicando en las sinagogas de toda la Galilea y expulsando demonios
40 A man suffering from a virulent skin-disease came to him and pleaded on his knees saying, 'If you arewil ing, you can cleanse me.'	40 Entonces se le acercó un leproso para pedirle ayuda y, cayendo de rodillas, le dijo: «Si quieres, puedes purificarme».
41 Feeling sorry for him, Jesus stretched out his hand, touched him and said to him, 'I am willing. Becleansed.'	41 Jesús, conmovido, extendió la mano y lo tocó, diciendo: «Lo quiero, queda purificado».
42 And at once the skin-disease left him and he was cleansed.	42 En seguida la lepra desapareció y quedó purificado.
43 And at once Jesus sternly sent him away and said to him,	43 Jesús lo despidió, advirtiéndole severamente:
44 'Mind you tel no one anything, but go and show yourself to the priest, and make the offering for yourcleansing prescribed by Moses as evidence to them.'	44 «No le digas nada a nadie, pero ve a presentarte al sacerdote y entrega por tu purificación la ofrenda que ordenó Moisés, para que les sirva de testimonio».
45 The man went away, but then started freely proclaiming and tel ing the story everywhere, so thatJesus could no longer go openly into any town, but stayed outside in deserted places. Even so, people from alaround kept coming to him.	45 Sin embargo, apenas se fue, empezó a proclamarlo a todo el mundo, divulgando lo sucedido, de tal manera que Jesús ya no podía entrar públicamente en ninguna ciudad, sino que debía quedarse afuera, en lugares desiertos, Y acudían a él de todas partes.
