Sirach 17

NEW JERUSALEM	Biblija Hrvatski
1 The Lord fashioned human beings from the earth, to consign them back to it.	1 Gospod stvori čovjeka od zemlje i opet ga u nju vraća.
2 He gave them so many days and so much time, he gave them authority over everything on earth.	2 Dao je ljudima točan broj dana i određeno vrijeme, dade im i vlast nad svime što je na zemlji.
3 He clothed them in strength, like himself, and made them in his own image.	3 Odjenu ih snagom kakva je njegova i stvori ih na sliku svoju.
4 He fil ed al living things with dread of human beings, making them masters over beasts and birds.	4 Svakom je stvoru udahnuo strah od čovjeka, da bi on gospodario zvijerima i pticama.

6 He made them a tongue, eyes and ears, and gave them a heart to think with.	6 Oblikovao im jezik, oči, uši, i srce im dade da razmišljaju.
7 He fil ed them with knowledge and intelligence, and showed them what was good and what evil.	7 Napuni ih znanjem i razumijevanjem i otkri im dobro i zlo.
8 He put his own light in their hearts to show them the magnificence of his works,	8 Oči je svoje stavio u srca njihova da im pokaže veličanstvo djela svojih.

10 so that they would praise his holy name as they told of his magnificent works.	10 Oni će slaviti njegovo sveto ime, pričajući o veličanstvu djela njegovih.
11 He set knowledge before them, he endowed them with the law of life.	11 Još im umnoži znanje i obdari ih zakonom života.
12 He established an eternal covenant with them, and revealed his judgements to them.	12 Učini s njima savez vječni i pouči ih sudovima svojim.
13 Their eyes saw the majesty of his glory, and their ears heard the glory of his voice.	13 Oči su njihove gledale slavu veličanstvenu i uho slušalo slavni njegov glas.
14 He said to them, 'Beware of al wrong-doing'; he gave each a commandment concerning hisneighbour.	14 »Čuvajte se svakoga zla«, reče im i odredi im dužnosti prema bližnjemu.
15 Their ways are always under his eye, they cannot be hidden from his sight.	15 Njihovi su putovi uvijek pred njim, ne mogu se sakriti pred očima njegovim.

17 Over each nation he has set a governor, but Israel is the Lord's own portion.	17 Svakomu narodu postavi vladara, ali je Izrael baština Gospodnja.

19 Their actions are al as plain as the sun to him, and his eyes rest constantly on their conduct.	19 Sva su djela njihova pred njim kao sunce, i oči njegove svagda paze na putove njihove.
20 Their iniquities are not hidden from him, al their sins are before the Lord.	20 Ne mogu se pred njim sakriti nepravde njihove, pred Gospodom su svi grijesi njihovi.

22 Almsgiving is like a signet ring to him, he cherishes generosity like the pupil of an eye.	22 Milostinja čovjekova njemu je kao pečat, i na dobročinstvo pazi kao na zjenicu oka.
23 One day he wil rise and reward them, he wil repay their deserts on their own heads.	23 Jednoga će se dana dići i platiti im, svakomu će plaća pasti na vlastitu glavu.
24 But to those who repent he permits return, and he encourages those who have lost hope.	24 Samo pokajnicima dopušta povratak i tješi one koji su izgubili nadu.
25 Return to the Lord and renounce your sins, plead before his face, stop offending him.	25 Obrati se Gospodu i okani se grijehâ, moli se pred licem njegovim i prestani ga vrijeđati.
26 Come back to the Most High, turn away from iniquity and hold all that is foul in abhorrence.	26 Vrati se Višnjem i okani se nepravde i jako zamrzi na gnusan čin.
27 Who is going to praise the Most High in Sheol if we do not glorify him while we are alive?	27 Jer tko će hvaliti Svevišnjeg u podzemlju mjesto živih koji ga mogu slaviti?
28 The dead can praise no more than those who do not exist, only those with life and health can praisethe Lord.	28 Hvala mrtvih mrtva je – kao da ih nema, samo živ i zdrav hvali Gospodina.
29 How great is the mercy of the Lord, his pardon for those who turn to him!	29 O kako je veliko milosrđe u Gospoda, praštanje onima koji mu se obraćaju!
30 For we cannot have everything, human beings are not immortal.	30 Ljudi ne mogu sve, jer sin čovjekov nije besmrtan.
31 What is brighter than the sun? And yet it fades. Flesh and blood think of nothing but evil.	31 Što je svjetlije od sunca? Pa i ono pomrkne. Tijelo i krv mogu hraniti samo zloću.
32 He surveys the armies of the lofty sky, and al of us are only dust and ashes.	32 Gospod nadzire sile na visokim nebesima, a svi su ljudi samo prah i pepeo.
