Sirach 17

NEW JERUSALEM	LA SACRA BIBBIA
1 The Lord fashioned human beings from the earth, to consign them back to it.	1 Il Signore ha creato l'uomo dalla terra, e ad essa lo fa di nuovo tornare.
2 He gave them so many days and so much time, he gave them authority over everything on earth.	2 Gli ha concesso giorni contati e tempo definito, dandogli potere su quanto essa contiene.
3 He clothed them in strength, like himself, and made them in his own image.	3 Li ha rivestiti di forza come se stesso, li ha fatti secondo la sua immagine.
4 He fil ed al living things with dread of human beings, making them masters over beasts and birds.	4 Ha posto il timore di lui su ogni carne, perché egli dominasse le bestie e i volatili.
5	5 Il consiglio, la lingua, gli occhi, gli orecchi e il cuore diede loro per ragionare.
6 He made them a tongue, eyes and ears, and gave them a heart to think with.	6 Li riempì con giudizio e intelligenza, e mostrò loro il bene e il male.
7 He fil ed them with knowledge and intelligence, and showed them what was good and what evil.	7 Pose nei loro cuori il suo timore per mostrare la grandezza delle sue opere.
8 He put his own light in their hearts to show them the magnificence of his works,	8 Loderanno il suo santo nome, per narrare i portenti delle sue opere.
9	9 Ha dato loro l'intelligenza, li ha dotati con la legge della vita.
10 so that they would praise his holy name as they told of his magnificent works.	10 Stabilì con loro un'alleanza eterna e mostrò loro i suoi giudizi.
11 He set knowledge before them, he endowed them with the law of life.	11 I loro occhi videro lo splendore della sua gloria, il loro orecchio udì la meraviglia della sua voce.
12 He established an eternal covenant with them, and revealed his judgements to them.	12 E disse loro: "Guardatevi da ogni ingiustizia"; e ordinò che ciascuno si curasse del prossimo.
13 Their eyes saw the majesty of his glory, and their ears heard the glory of his voice.	13 Le loro vie son sempre davanti a lui, non sono nascoste ai suoi occhi.
14 He said to them, 'Beware of al wrong-doing'; he gave each a commandment concerning hisneighbour.	14 Stabilì per ogni popolo un reggitore, ma Israele è la porzione del Signore.
15 Their ways are always under his eye, they cannot be hidden from his sight.	15 Tutte le loro opere sono come il sole davanti a lui, i suoi occhi sono sempre sulle loro vie.
16	16 Le loro ingiustizie non gli sono nascoste e tutti i loro peccati sono davanti al Signore.
17 Over each nation he has set a governor, but Israel is the Lord's own portion.	17 Per lui è come un sigillo l'elemosina dell'uomo, custodisce come pupilla il bene fatto dall'uomo.
18	18 Dopo sorgerà per ricompensarli, renderà loro il premio sul capo.
19 Their actions are al as plain as the sun to him, and his eyes rest constantly on their conduct.	19 Nondimeno ai pentiti lascia aperta la via e agli esitanti dà la forza della costanza.
20 Their iniquities are not hidden from him, al their sins are before the Lord.	20 Ritorna al Signore, stàccati dal peccato, prega in sua presenza, riduci gli ostacoli.
21	21 Volgiti all'Altissimo, desisti dall'ingiustizia: odia profondamente ciò ch'egli detesta.
22 Almsgiving is like a signet ring to him, he cherishes generosity like the pupil of an eye.	22 Chi loderà l'Altissimo negl'inferi invece dei vivi che gli rendono grazie?
23 One day he wil rise and reward them, he wil repay their deserts on their own heads.	23 Per il morto -- egli è come inesistente -- cessa la lode; chi è vivo e sano loda il Signore.
24 But to those who repent he permits return, and he encourages those who have lost hope.	24 Come è grande la misericordia del Signore e il suo perdono per quanti tornano a lui!
25 Return to the Lord and renounce your sins, plead before his face, stop offending him.	25 Non può esserci tutto negli uomini, perché un figlio d'uomo non è immortale.
26 Come back to the Most High, turn away from iniquity and hold all that is foul in abhorrence.	26 Cosa è più luminoso del sole? Anch'esso si oscura! Così l'uomo di carne e sangue concepisce il male.
27 Who is going to praise the Most High in Sheol if we do not glorify him while we are alive?	27 Dio passa in rassegna gli astri nel più alto dei cieli, mentre gli uomini tutti son polvere e terra.
28 The dead can praise no more than those who do not exist, only those with life and health can praisethe Lord.
29 How great is the mercy of the Lord, his pardon for those who turn to him!
30 For we cannot have everything, human beings are not immortal.
31 What is brighter than the sun? And yet it fades. Flesh and blood think of nothing but evil.
32 He surveys the armies of the lofty sky, and al of us are only dust and ashes.
