Sirach 17

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 The Lord fashioned human beings from the earth, to consign them back to it.	1 De la tierra creó el Señor al hombre, y de nuevo le hizo volver a ella.
2 He gave them so many days and so much time, he gave them authority over everything on earth.	2 Días contados le dio y tiempo fijo, y dioles también poder sobre las cosas de la tierra.
3 He clothed them in strength, like himself, and made them in his own image.	3 De una fuerza como la suya los revistió, a su imagen los hizo.
4 He fil ed al living things with dread of human beings, making them masters over beasts and birds.	4 Sobre toda carne impuso su temor para que dominara a fieras y volátiles.

6 He made them a tongue, eyes and ears, and gave them a heart to think with.	6 Les formó lengua, ojos, oídos, y un corazón para pensar.
7 He fil ed them with knowledge and intelligence, and showed them what was good and what evil.	7 De saber e inteligencia los llenó, les enseñó el bien y el mal.
8 He put his own light in their hearts to show them the magnificence of his works,	8 Puso su ojo en sus corazones, para mostrarles la grandeza de sus obras.

10 so that they would praise his holy name as they told of his magnificent works.	10 Por eso su santo nombre alabarán, contando la grandeza de sus obras.
11 He set knowledge before them, he endowed them with the law of life.	11 Aun les añadió el saber, la ley de vida dioles en herencia.
12 He established an eternal covenant with them, and revealed his judgements to them.	12 Alianza eterna estableció con ellos, y sus juicios les enseñó.
13 Their eyes saw the majesty of his glory, and their ears heard the glory of his voice.	13 Los ojos de ellos vieron la grandeza de su gloria, la gloria de su voz oyeron sus oídos.
14 He said to them, 'Beware of al wrong-doing'; he gave each a commandment concerning hisneighbour.	14 Y les dijo: «Guardaos de toda iniquidad», y a cada cual le dio órdenes respecto de su prójimo.
15 Their ways are always under his eye, they cannot be hidden from his sight.	15 Sus caminos están ante él en todo tiempo, no se ocultan a sus ojos.

17 Over each nation he has set a governor, but Israel is the Lord's own portion.	17 A cada nación asignó un jefe, mas la porción del Señor es Israel.

19 Their actions are al as plain as the sun to him, and his eyes rest constantly on their conduct.	19 Todas sus obras están ante él, igual que el sol, e incesantes sus ojos sobre sus caminos.
20 Their iniquities are not hidden from him, al their sins are before the Lord.	20 No se le ocultan sus iniquidades, todos sus pecados están ante el Señor.

22 Almsgiving is like a signet ring to him, he cherishes generosity like the pupil of an eye.	22 La limosna del hombre es como un sello para él, el favor del hombre lo guarda como la pupila de sus ojos.
23 One day he wil rise and reward them, he wil repay their deserts on their own heads.	23 Después se levantará y les retribuirá, sobre su cabeza pondrá su recompensa.
24 But to those who repent he permits return, and he encourages those who have lost hope.	24 Pero a los que se arrepienten les concede retorno, y consuela a los que perdieron la esperanza.
25 Return to the Lord and renounce your sins, plead before his face, stop offending him.	25 Conviértete al Señor y deja tus pecados, suplica ante su faz y quita los obstáculos.
26 Come back to the Most High, turn away from iniquity and hold all that is foul in abhorrence.	26 Vuélvete al Altísimo y apártate de la injusticia, odia con toda el alma la abominación.
27 Who is going to praise the Most High in Sheol if we do not glorify him while we are alive?	27 ¿Quién en el seol alabará al Altísimo si los vivientes no le dan gloria?
28 The dead can praise no more than those who do not exist, only those with life and health can praisethe Lord.	28 No hay alabanza que venga de muerto, como de quien no existe; es el que vive y goza de salud quien alaba al Señor.
29 How great is the mercy of the Lord, his pardon for those who turn to him!	29 ¡Qué grande es la misericordia del Señor, y su perdón para los que a él se convierten!
30 For we cannot have everything, human beings are not immortal.	30 Pues no todo puede estar en poder de los hombres, que no es inmortal el hijo de hombre.
31 What is brighter than the sun? And yet it fades. Flesh and blood think of nothing but evil.	31 ¿Qué hay más luminoso que el sol? Con todo, desaparece. Mas la carne y la sangre sólo el mal conciben.
32 He surveys the armies of the lofty sky, and al of us are only dust and ashes.	32 Al ejército de lo alto de los cielos pasa él revista, pero polvo y ceniza son los hombres.
